Thriller Zone: From the Mental Hospital to the Ghostly World
Chapter 10 Night Check
The lights-out signal sounded at 9:30.
As the dormitory lights went out in an instant, the entire campus was plunged into darkness.
The dormitory was quiet, with only the occasional sound of people turning over on the bed indicating that they had not yet fallen asleep.
"Do you really think that just following the rules is enough to survive three days in this instance?"
In the silence, the burly man's voice suddenly rang out.
His broken leg was still aching, and remembering what Ding Xiang had said in the cafeteria, he couldn't be so optimistic.
After testing, the group discovered that once they returned to their dorm room, they could openly discuss the domain and missions.
Du Tingfeng lay on his side in the darkness, staring at the coin he had placed next to his pillow.
After a moment, he stuffed the coin back into his pocket before slowly speaking:
"We have too few clues right now, so there's no point in asking this kind of question."
Chen Ji had his hands behind his head, his eyes darting around the doorway, where the green light of the emergency lights in the corridor could be faintly seen.
We have quite a few clues now, but they've all gone cold.
In his mind, these broken clues were like intertwined threads, seemingly connected, but without any clear direction.
"After we get up tomorrow, we'll take the name tags off first," Chen Ji said. "We'll find out who the other two girls are and see if we can get any information out of them."
"The second thing is to see if Meng Yue's prophecy can be verified."
The burly man asked, "If Meng Yue really dies tomorrow, who do you think killed her?"
The white handprint on Zeng Mingwei's corpse and the strangely shaped dormitory supervisor flashed through Chen Ji's mind. He was about to say something when he suddenly stopped and whispered a shushing sound to Du Tingfeng and the burly man:
"Don't say a word!"
He stared intently at the small window on the door, where the green light streaming into the room suddenly dimmed.
The soft sound of high heels came from the end of the corridor.
Click, click, click.
The burly man swallowed hard. He was on the lower bunk and couldn't see clearly what was happening outside the small window.
But he could clearly see a jagged figure on the ground in front of the iron gate, gradually lengthening.
Chen Ji pulled the blanket down to his eyes, squinting slightly, as his footsteps stopped at their doorway.
Crack—Squeak.
The small window on the door was gently pushed open.
Chen Ji's eyes widened in disbelief, his heart pounding like a drum, as he was closest to the small window.
Under the dim green light, the dormitory supervisor's head peeked in through the small window, his neck stretched to an impossible length like a spring.
Her body was still outside the door!
Chen Ji immediately closed his eyes, only opening them a tiny crack. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a huge, protruding eyeball mechanically rotating on the dormitory supervisor's pale, flat face until it locked onto the burly man.
Then, with her slender neck supporting her head, she writhed forward like a snake, stretching all the way to the head of the strong man's bed, almost face to face with him.
The eyeball was pressed tightly against the burly man's head, motionless, as if observing whether he was truly asleep.
She's on night patrol!
Chen Ji suddenly understood. He stopped looking over and closed his eyes completely, calming his breathing.
A minute or two later, he suddenly felt a faint, cold breeze sweep across his face, carrying a fishy, nauseating smell.
It was Chen Ji's turn.
A chilling, slippery, and sticky sensation pressed against his eyelids.
A bizarre and eerie image immediately flashed into his mind: a face without features, as flat as a sheet of white paper, hovering a few centimeters above Chen Ji's face, silently watching him.
Chen Ji maintained his previous breathing rhythm, slow and calm, with his eyes tightly closed.
A moment later, another gentle breeze swept by, and the small window was slammed shut.
The sound of high heels clattered away into the distance.
Two minutes later, when there was no sound outside, Chen Ji slightly opened his eyes.
The green light outside the door flickered faintly, but there was no one in sight.
He immediately reached up and rubbed his eyelids, feeling nauseous. There was some wet, sticky fluid on them, which came from the dormitory supervisor's eyeballs.
"Fuck..."
The burly man trembled as he cursed under his breath, letting out a long sigh; his back was already soaked with sweat.
Du Tingfeng said in a muffled voice, "Stop talking, just go to sleep."
"That thing might come back later."
The three of them fell silent, lying quietly on the bed, their minds churning with thoughts.
Chen Ji glanced at the glowing alarm clock on the table, which showed that it was 10:05.
Judging by the time, the dormitory supervisor should have come out to check the rooms at 10:00 AM sharp.
A short while later, a soft snoring sound came from the burly man's side.
Chen Ji was no longer sleepy. He and Du Tingfeng had the same guess that the dormitory manager would not only check once.
As the alarm clock struck eleven, the sound of high heels rang out again.
However, this time it was different from before. The tapping sound came from the end of the corridor, gradually faded away, and went up the stairs.
About fifteen minutes later, the dormitory manager returned to the first floor and began inspecting each room.
Chen Ji noticed that the dormitory supervisor did not go upstairs at 10 o'clock, which means that she would only check the girls' dormitory once.
He thought of the pen that had been taken away, and a plan gradually took shape in his mind.
......
The sky was dark, and the cold wind howled. Only a few old streetlights beside the track provided dim light.
Chen Ji and Du Tingfeng, supporting the burly man, mingled at the back of the crowd, leisurely following the group of runners.
The other three girls were in a line behind them, and judging from their expressions, none of them had slept well.
It wasn't their turn to be on duty today, so everyone had to get out of bed before dawn to do morning exercises.
"Meng Yue didn't come." Chen Ji had already scanned the girls' group but didn't see that slender figure.
"It might be her turn to be on duty today."
The burly man didn't pay much attention; his face twitched from time to time in pain, and the pain in his legs made him unable to care about anything else.
Chen Ji and Du Tingfeng exchanged a glance, a hint of hesitation flashing across their faces.
The unease that started this morning is growing stronger and stronger.
"Shh-"
The whistle blew, and a blurry black figure stood outside the small house beside the track, signaling the team to disperse.
The six of them walked slowly into the teaching building. Even though it was cold outside, none of them wanted to go back and face the female teacher's harsh face.
Moreover, the rules in the teaching building have reached an extreme level; a slight mistake could lead to death.
As soon as they stepped into the teaching building, they suddenly heard a strange noise coming from the stairs.
The faceless students around him were all running up in a panic, even bumping into the burly man who had difficulty moving and causing him to stumble.
"what happened?"
Ding Xiang was a little nervous. She looked up at the stairs and saw that the students were gathered on the floor where their classroom was located.
Fang Jia also pursed her lips tightly, looking upstairs with concern.
The noise overhead grew louder and louder. The group moved slowly as they squeezed through the crowd. It was only after Du Tingfeng and Chen Ji forced their way through that they were able to get on.
In the narrow corridor, dozens of faceless students surrounded their classroom, their expressions varied, their discussions so loud they almost shattered the windows.
Suddenly, a burst of loud laughter erupted from the crowd:
"If you're going to jump, then jump already. Stop pretending and wasting everyone's time!"
His voice was like a pebble thrown into water, instantly creating ripples in the crowd.
Immediately, several mocking remarks rang out at the same time:
"Yeah, stop pretending!"
"It's all just a way to get attention."
"You guys don't know her? Anyone who hangs out with that kind of person, what kind of good person can she be?"
Chen Ji's heart sank suddenly. He and the others behind him exchanged glances and saw the same fear in each other.
"Step aside!"
Du Tingfeng roared. He wasn't particularly strong, but his arms were powerful, and he pulled the person in front of him away.
Chen Ji led the others to push forward until they reached the front of the classroom, where a small open space suddenly appeared.
"Do not--"
"do not want!"
Fang Jia and Wu Yan both screamed at the same time.
Meng Yue sat alone on the railing, her legs swinging gently in the air.
Chen Ji's eyes were bloodshot as he lunged forward, trying to grab her!
Meng Yue turned her head, a sad smile flashing across her face, which was reflected in Chen Ji's eyes.
She didn't say anything, took a step forward, and like a swift with a broken wing, fell straight off the railing.
