All-around teacher at the magic academy
Chapter 9 Part-time job
Today marks the official start of classes at St. Peter's College.
Unfortunately, Leon doesn't have a class today. His class is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday.
St. Peter's College has many teachers, and on average each teacher can only teach one or two classes a week, while teachers who are well-loved by students may have three classes a week.
Students at the college are very free to attend classes; they can choose whose lectures they like, which gives them a great deal of autonomy.
Leon felt that this teaching style was very suitable. He remembered that in the past, he always had the same few classes, which made him suffer every day. There was nothing he liked.
Moreover, most of the content in textbooks, including what teachers say, is outdated or nonsensical. After years of schooling, students still don't know anything. Some teachers even use the same PowerPoint presentation for years without changing a single word.
Leon highly praised this teaching method at St. Peter's College.
However, don't assume that students in this college can act recklessly and be ignorant.
The college has special regulations that require each student to complete a fixed number of credits.
These credits are awarded by different teachers, who usually give credits based on students' classroom performance or exam scores.
However, each student can only receive a maximum of 7 credits from each teacher.
Furthermore, the college conducts monthly end-of-month assessments, with practical and theoretical evaluations conducted separately. Students who consistently rank in the bottom 10% of their grade in both theory and practical assessments for three consecutive months, or who fail to accumulate sufficient credits by the end of the academic year, will be advised to withdraw from the college.
The college teachers will think that you have not adapted well to college life, and continuing will only be a waste of your own time.
Leon didn't think there was anything wrong with it; the rule wasn't particularly strict for the students.
Leon thought for a moment and realized that unless a student was extremely outrageous, they would generally not be expelled. The college expelled no more than 10 students each year.
A closer look at this rule reveals that, firstly, it requires three consecutive times of being in the bottom 10% of the grade. It's three consecutive times, not just three chances.
Furthermore, the rules require that both theory and practice be in the bottom 10% to be satisfied, so that students who are not talented in one area can focus on learning another.
At the same time, it is easy to earn the required credits in a whole year, as the college does not have high credit requirements.
In general, students who are expelled from St. Peter's College are truly unsuitable for studying in every aspect, and they should consider starting a new life.
Leon's classes are scheduled for Thursday afternoons, and he only has one class a week.
This was undoubtedly very easy for Leon, even enjoyable, as he only needed to teach four classes a month. That is, just four hours in total, and he could earn a high salary of 1.5 pounds.
Not only that, but they also receive the honorary title of teacher at St. Peter's College.
But these are things Leon will have to consider later.
Leon's most pressing problem is his lack of money. He only has 1 ruble and 10 pence left. He had previously treated Professor Leon to coffee and Harvey to dinner, and he even bought himself a new outfit.
He really has almost no money left, so he has to find a part-time job to earn some money.
The academy's salary won't be paid until the end of this month, so Leon needs to save up some money in case of unforeseen circumstances.
"It would be embarrassing if I didn't have enough money when I invited others to dinner later."
Leon pondered, "But what kind of part-time job should I look for? I don't seem to have any other special skills."
Leon was in a real bind. He thought he should go out and walk around the streets to see if he could find a suitable part-time job, preferably something easy or with a high salary.
...
Barton was a bustling city, and the streets were lively in the morning. Everyone was busy with their own things, but Leon seemed like an outsider, looking around.
"Barton is very safe. There haven't been any troublemakers along the way. In other places, there might be people making noise in the streets every day."
Seeing this peaceful atmosphere, Leon sighed inwardly.
"Wait a minute, security? Perhaps we can give it a try. After all, I'm a faculty member at the academy, so they definitely won't say anything."
Leon suddenly had a flash of inspiration: wasn't magic his forte? He immediately headed towards his destination; earning some money was essential, no matter what. He could always quit his job later; it was a part-time job anyway, and this was the only method he could think of for the time being.
...
"Here we are, right here."
Leon arrived at a building far from the bustling streets. It was very quiet there, a completely different feeling from the streets.
If we're talking about the place where troublemakers or criminals are least likely to be, then this is undoubtedly the place.
That's right, this is the Barton City Law Enforcement Division. Every city has law enforcement officers, but their numbers are not very large. Some law enforcement officers are temporary staff members used to maintain public order.
This was the only job Leon could think of for the time being. After all, he was a teacher at the academy, so they would definitely be happy to help him. Besides, it was just a simple job of maintaining social order, so there shouldn't be too much trouble.
"You mean you want to be a temporary law enforcement officer?"
After Leon communicated with the other party and explained his purpose, a receptionist at the front desk seemed incredulous, her tone filled with disbelief.
“That’s right.” Leon didn’t want to explain further.
"Please wait a moment while I contact Lord Max."
"Ok."
A moment later, a person came down from upstairs. The person had messy curly hair that looked like it hadn't been groomed in a long time, and a stubble beard. He wore a loose gray coat and looked haggard, but he still had an air of authority. He seemed to be someone who was busy all day and rarely took care of himself.
"Hello, I am Max, the commander of the law enforcement division here."
The man spoke first, his voice deep and powerful.
"Hello, I am Leon Guern, you can call me Leon."
"Are you a teacher at St. Peter's Academy?" Captain Max asked, his tone filled with uncertainty.
"Yes, if you don't believe me, I can show you my credentials as a teacher."
It seems he underestimated the influence of the college's teachers.
“No need, no need. No one would dare to impersonate a teacher from St. Peter’s College. I didn’t expect that you, as a teacher, would still think about contributing more to this city. It’s truly admirable,” Max praised.
Leon smiled sheepishly. He wouldn't correct the captain of the law enforcement team's thinking, lest others look down on the academy's teachers.
"If there were more people as great as you, we wouldn't be so busy."
"We happen to be short-staffed for night duty. If you don't mind, you can temporarily join the night shift from 8 pm to 12 am every night, is that alright?"
"no problem."
Leon readily agreed. Being a night watchman was quite good for him; it would greatly reduce the awkwardness of running into familiar students or teachers.
He wanted to ask how much he would be paid for the night, but if he asked directly, would it make him seem like he was short of money?
"Oh, by the way, there will be a daily allowance of 2 rubles. Although this amount may be insignificant to you, please be sure to accept it," Captain Max said sincerely.
"Ok."
Leon agreed without hesitation; he certainly wouldn't admit that he was there just for the salary.
"Let's start tonight, if you don't mind. You can contact the front desk staff for the rest. I have many important things to take care of, so I'll be leaving now."
"Excuse me."
It's clear that the other person is really busy.
“Um, Professor Leon, these are your medals and uniform. You need to wear them when you are on night patrol to show your identity as a Night Watchman.”
The receptionist said respectfully.
"Okay, thank you."
"You're welcome, you're welcome. You'll need to patrol a few designated streets in Barton City. After that, you'll need to report to the supervisor the next day. Mr. Kate is in charge of the night patrols here. If it's anything particularly important, you'll need to report it on the same day to avoid delays."
The staff member patiently explained his job to Leon, and her attitude showed her respect for him.
“Okay, thank you for your explanation.” Leon politely expressed his gratitude.
"No, no, you are a very elegant gentleman, Professor Leon."
And so Leon got his part-time job and waited for night to come.
