All-around teacher at the magic academy
Chapter 7 Acquaintance
One day four years ago.
Rhine wandered aimlessly down the street. He had just finished practicing his new magic and wanted to buy something to relax.
Having been in this world for two years, and having simply gotten used to life here, and knowing that he could not go back, Rhine decided to live well in this world.
After all, I have family here, so I'm not alone. Starting a new life here might not be so bad.
Rhine was very interested in the magic of this world. Ever since he first saw someone else cast magic, he couldn't help but want to learn more about this fantastical thing.
As a transmigrator who came here from Earth, who could resist the temptation of mysterious power?
For the past two years, Rhine has been learning different kinds of magic. He has integrated his knowledge with the magic of this world and found that this kind of learning has led to new understandings and brought many unexpected changes to magic.
After each magic practice session, Rhine would habitually take a walk in the street, partly to relax and partly to enjoy this pleasant time.
"I wonder if it's possible to combine water magic and lightning magic. After all, water conducts electricity, so if we release them together, will it produce unexpected effects?"
Rhine walked down the street, deep in thought. "But how can I simultaneously unleash two different spells and merge them together? It's definitely not an easy task. I must try it when I get back."
He suddenly had a new idea and decided that he must try it out when he got back.
"Beat him, beat him! Beat him to death! He still dares to hit you after we said a few words to him."
Rhine heard some noise coming from around the corner not far away, like some people were fighting. So he decided to go and see what was going on, as he was also a person who loved to join in on things.
Rhine peered over the corner, very close to where the fight was taking place. He saw four boys, around eleven or twelve years old, bullying a thin boy lying on the ground.
The boy lay on the ground, clutching his head, trying to resist but unable to stand up.
"I didn't say anything wrong. You're just a child without a father, and you're upset that your mother is a widow. You even dared to hit me. I'll beat you to death."
Rhine heard one of the abusers angrily complaining.
He had only intended to join in the fun and watch the drama unfold, with no intention of getting involved. However, after hearing the perpetrator's words, he decided to stop the behavior.
"Stop! If you keep fighting, I'll call the enforcement team."
As he spoke, Rhine cast a spell. He didn't intend to attack them with magic, as that would cause unnecessary trouble; he just wanted to scare the children away.
"Oh no, someone has spotted us, and it's a magician! We need to get out of here!"
One of the boys, upon seeing Rhine, exclaimed in terror and tried to call for his companions to flee the scene.
"Don't be afraid, it's alright. He won't dare to lay a hand on you. It's a serious crime for a magician to attack an ordinary person."
At this moment, another boy grabbed one of the boys who was trying to run away and said something.
Rhine recognized him as the boy who had been hitting and yelling at him earlier.
Upon hearing this, Rhine frowned. He was right. Rhine dared not take action, fearing that he would provoke the law enforcement team, which would be a great loss.
He didn't expect that someone would be so unafraid. Normally, when a fight is discovered, people would choose to flee for fear of being called to the police.
However, things didn't go as planned. Rhine even revealed his identity as a magician, but it was still to no avail.
In that instant, he had a crazy thought: should he take action and wipe them all out?
But he was stopped by Rhine in an instant. He wasn't a criminal and didn't want to be accused of murder for no reason. He might not be discovered or investigated, but it was better to be safe than sorry.
I cannot allow any potential dangers to occur; I do not want my current peaceful life to be disturbed.
"Although I dare not use magic on you, I have already notified the enforcement team, and I believe they will arrive soon. If you want to be taken away by the enforcement team, you can continue."
Rhine reacted quickly by bringing up the enforcement team. He figured they would leave, after all, a group of eleven or twelve-year-old kids would be afraid of the enforcement team.
"Tch, what a nuisance, minding your own business. Let's go."
The boy in the lead spoke angrily, spitting on the ground before leaving.
Rhine waited quietly until they were far away, then quickly ran to the injured boy to check his injuries.
"Fortunately, the injuries weren't serious; they were just superficial wounds. It's a pity I don't know healing magic."
Rhine apologized. This was something he couldn't solve. No matter how much he practiced, he could never cast healing magic. Rhine wasn't unaware of the basic principles of healing magic, but he just couldn't release it when he practiced. He was frustrated by this for a long time, and finally gave up.
"It's okay, thank you," the boy said simply.
"You're welcome. It was just a spur-of-the-moment thing. Why are they bullying you?"
Rhine could probably guess the reason, but he still wanted to ask.
The boy hesitated for a moment, and it was clear that he didn't want to explain to Rhine, but he was also embarrassed to refuse Rhine because Rhine had just helped him out of a difficult situation.
"By the way, can you tell me your name? My name is Rein Hart, you can call me Rein."
Rhine quickly changed the subject, not wanting to put the other person in a difficult position.
“My name is Harvey, Harvey Doss,” Harvey quickly replied.
"Hello, Harvey, I think you should take care of your wound first, otherwise your family will definitely worry if they see you like this."
Hearing his family's concerns, Harvey clearly panicked. Combined with the previous statements from his abusers, Rein could tell that Haas was someone who cared deeply about his family.
Rhine didn't want to get involved. He believed in avoiding trouble, especially since he was in a strange world and survival was the most important thing.
But when Rhine heard the abuser's words, he didn't want to go against his conscience.
Indeed, Rein deeply sympathized with Harvey. In his original world, he too had lived with his mother, and his father had died when Rein was very young.
Rhine had also faced this situation before, and he knew all too well the pain of being bullied, especially when salt was rubbed into one's wounds, so Rhine took action.
"Perhaps this is also a form of redemption for my childhood," Rhine thought to himself. If he had had the help of kind people back then, perhaps his childhood would have been easier.
Afterwards, Rhine took him to a nearby clinic to get some basic treatment for his wound and then prepared to take him home.
...
"Could you teach me magic?"
While walking down the street, Harvey suddenly made a request to Rhine.
Rhine hesitated, wondering whether he should teach him magic. It wasn't that he was afraid of the trouble, but rather that he feared Harvey, once he had the power, would retaliate severely against the perpetrators.
That would easily ruin Harvey himself, and he didn't want Harvey to end up on a path of crime.
"Please, teach me magic," Harvey pleaded sincerely, even wanting to kneel down.
Rein could tell that Harvey truly wanted to learn magic from him; he saw a reflection of his younger self in Harvey. Was he ever as stubborn as him back then?
Rhine wanted to test him; if it worked out, he might actually be able to teach him magic. It would be a simple favor for him, but he would gain Harvey's friendship, and perhaps he would need his help in the future.
"You should know that I have my concerns."
Rhine didn't respond to him, but instead asked a question in return.
“I know you’re afraid that if I learn magic, I’ll seek revenge on them and might kill them.”
Rhine couldn't help but admire Harvey's intelligence, but this also made him more hesitant. It was clear that Harvey was a promising student of magic, but this only strengthened Rhine's resolve not to ruin Harvey's future because of himself.
“I will not seek revenge on them, although I really want to, but I can’t, because it would put my mother in a difficult position.”
Harvey earnestly explained to Rhine, and Rhine, hearing Harvey's tearful plea, could sense his feelings. It seemed he lacked friends, rarely confided in anyone, and often suffered injustice.
But the more this was the case, the less Rhine wanted to interfere. Perhaps he would find a way to teach those who had bullied him a lesson in the future. His intervention might cause him to deviate from his original path of growth.
“I want to protect my mother. I am too weak now and can’t help her at all. My mother always suffers a lot because of me, and I don’t want to see her like that. I want to protect her. If I learn magic, I can enter a magic academy. Then those who bully us will be afraid because I am a student at a magic academy. They are also afraid that the magicians who grow up will take revenge on them in the future.”
Rhine admitted that he was persuaded and could no longer go against his conscience. He saw a reflection of himself in Harvey, and saw that when he was young, he had also wanted to grow up as quickly as possible to protect his mother, just like Harvey.
"I promise you, I can teach you magic, and I have no right to interfere with what you do afterward."
Rhine said to Harvey, "You wouldn't want your mother to suffer even harsher retaliation because of you, would you?"
Lineker accurately hit Xavi's sore spot.
"I know, please teach me magic."
...
And so, in the days that followed, Rhine would spend two hours every day teaching Harvey magic. He learned very quickly, and his talent was no less than Rhine's. Perhaps the only difference was that Rhine possessed knowledge from his previous life.
Harvey kept his promise to Rhine and did not abuse his magic, which pleased Rhine.
...
Ultimately, due to his own reasons, he had to leave the city he originally lived in, without even having a chance to say goodbye to Harvey.
"He must have been very worried. I never expected him to come to St. Peter's College to study. He has really made great progress."
Leon looked at Harvey, who was sitting quietly waiting for him in the restaurant, and a long-lost smile appeared on his face.
