All-around teacher at the magic academy
Chapter 58 Resolving Disputes
After finishing their meal at a lively little restaurant, Leon and Max said goodbye to each other.
Longing for the lively atmosphere, Leon decided to stroll through the streets of Barton. He imagined the bustling scene, a smile unconsciously creeping onto his face, hoping to find that long-lost sense of belonging among the crowd.
However, when he actually found himself on this bustling street, Leon couldn't help but feel a pang of regret. The pedestrians on the street seemed endless. He struggled to weave through the crowd, only to discover that the liveliness here far exceeded his expectations.
The noise around him was incessant—hawking, laughter, and arguments—all intertwined, making it impossible for him to discern any useful information.
Leon frowned, a strange sense of irritation rising within him. He had initially thought he enjoyed this lively atmosphere, but now he found it somewhat unbearable.
"Forget it, I'll just go back to the academy." He made the decision silently in his heart. He quickened his pace, trying to break free from the crowded throng.
However, as he walked, his pace involuntarily slowed, his curiosity drawn to a scene in front of the store. He saw a crowd gathered there, chattering amongst themselves, and thought he might as well join in the fun and find out what was going on. So, he pushed through the crowd and headed towards the center of the dispute.
"Everyone, please be the judge! I suspect these two girls stole things from my shop. I wanted to check them, but they refused. Are they guilty?" The shop owner's voice was loud and clear, his face filled with anger and determination as he pointed at the two girls standing in front of him.
Leon's gaze fell on the two girls. They looked somewhat uneasy, but judging from their clothes, they did indeed look like college students.
Leon guessed they might be students from other colleges participating in the competition. However, he didn't know the truth and could only remain neutral, quietly observing how things unfolded.
“We didn’t!” Mary defended herself firmly, her eyes revealing an unyielding stubbornness. She knew very well that her boss was making baseless accusations against them, but she couldn’t produce any evidence to prove her innocence, and she was extremely anxious.
Elsa, standing beside her, looked even more helpless. Her eyes were filled with panic, and her hands unconsciously twisted the hem of her clothes. She was filled with regret. If they hadn't gone shopping alone, or at least had brought other classmates with them, perhaps they wouldn't be in this predicament.
"You have no evidence to prove you didn't steal!" The boss's voice was even more firm, his eyes revealing an undeniable confidence.
“We…” Mary gritted her teeth, staring intently at the boss, “What evidence do you have to prove that we took it?”
"I just saw it with my own eyes. You were acting suspiciously in the store. You were definitely stealing something." The boss's attitude was firm, as if he had already concluded that the two girls were guilty.
“Fine, what if we don’t find anything on us?” Melly’s tone was challenging, her eyes filled with rage. If looks could kill, the boss would probably have been torn to pieces by now.
“Merry…” Elsa gently tugged at the hem of Merry’s clothes, her eyes filled with worry. She wanted to persuade Merry to calm down, but Merry ignored her and continued to stare at her boss.
"If we can't find it, then we've cleared your name, and I'm willing to apologize to you." The boss's attitude softened slightly, but he still insisted on his point of view.
"Just an apology?" Melly frowned, unable to believe that her boss could be so shameless.
Regardless of the search's outcome, both she and Elsa's reputations have already been damaged. If nothing is found, they'll only receive a perfunctory apology, but they could face even more criticism and potentially be taken advantage of by their boss in the process.
Thinking of all this, Meili trembled with anger and was speechless for a moment.
The onlookers began to discuss the matter, with some sympathizing with the two girls' plight and others questioning the boss's behavior.
Leon's mind was filled with familiar scenes, those misunderstandings and false accusations that were common in the news in his previous life.
He recalled an incident where a girl suspected the boy opposite her was taking pictures of her without her consent on the subway, causing a huge uproar and even alarming the subway management.
After investigation, it was finally proven that everything was based on a misunderstanding and false accusation. The innocent boy only received a perfunctory apology from the accuser, while his reputation and mental well-being suffered irreparable damage.
Leon never imagined that such a scene could unfold before his very eyes in this world. He was deeply moved, realizing that human nature is indeed complex and multifaceted, possessing both a bright side and unpredictable dark corners.
This reflection made Leon realize he could no longer stand idly by. In his past life, faced with similar situations, although his heart was filled with anger and sympathy, he was unable to take action for various reasons and could only silently feel indignant for the falsely accused. But now, he had the ability to stand up and the courage to intervene, so he could no longer suppress his feelings.
"Hello, law enforcement officer, what's going on?" Leon's voice was calm and powerful. He pushed through the crowd, took out the law enforcement officer's badge that the captain had given him earlier from his pocket, and walked to the center of the dispute.
He hadn't expected that the temporary identity the captain had bestowed upon him would come in handy at this moment. In this situation, the authority of a law enforcement officer was clearly more effective in maintaining order than the identity of a teacher.
The two girls looked on with hope and gratitude as Leon approached. The boss, however, had a grim expression and was clearly uneasy about his presence.
Leon listened patiently to Melie and Elsa's accounts, then pondered for a moment. He knew that in this situation, it was imperative to handle the matter fairly and not allow anyone to suffer an injustice.
He then said, "Well then, since the boss insists that you took something, and you can't prove your innocence, then according to procedure, we can only conduct a body search."
However, if the search proves you innocent, then I will have to invite the boss to the law enforcement office for coffee on charges of false accusation.” Leon’s gaze was sharp as he stared at his boss.
Upon hearing Leon's words, the boss's eyes began to dart around nervously, his expression betraying his guilty conscience. Seeing this, Leon roughly judged that the boss was likely making a baseless accusation.
"What's wrong?" Leon asked his boss again, his tone carrying an unquestionable authority.
"Never mind, I'm not sure either, they just seem suspicious." Under Leon's gaze, the boss thought for a long time before finally choosing to compromise.
“You can’t just spout things without evidence. Considering this is your first offense and no serious consequences have occurred, we’ll let it go. But if something similar happens again, it won’t just be a simple coffee in the law enforcement office; it’ll be a serious reflection in the law enforcement jail.” Leon looked at his boss sternly and gave him a stern warning.
In fact, even if he were taken to law enforcement, he would only receive a verbal reprimand.
"Yes, yes, I'll remember." The boss nodded repeatedly, a hint of embarrassment and lingering fear on his face.
"Everyone, please disperse. It was all a misunderstanding." Leon waved his hand, his voice carrying an undeniable air of authority. The crowd gradually dispersed, and the lively scene slowly returned to calm.
