Chapter 45 Amy's Life
"Tell me quickly, what did he say to you!" The man angrily swung his fists, mercilessly striking the woman.
"It's all gone, there's really nothing left!" Amy curled up on the ground, clutching her head tightly, and screamed at the top of her lungs.
"You just told me about going to the game?" The man continued to question Amy, clearly suspicious of her answer.
"There's really nothing left, please, stop hitting me, please stop hitting me." Amy cried in agony, unable to bear the pain in her body.
The man picked up the invitation and examined the text carefully. Although he didn't find anything unusual, after reading the last sentence, he tore the invitation into pieces and casually tossed it next to Amy.
Amy lay motionless, tears streaming down her face, her sobs echoing in the silent air.
The image of Lean involuntarily surfaced in the man's mind, and a flame of desire quietly ignited within him. He then turned to look at Amy lying on the ground, and couldn't help but sigh at the vast difference between the two.
He recalled the moment he first met Amy, when he was young and ambitious, eager to achieve something in his career, and dreaming of marrying a beautiful wife and raising a healthy son together.
When he met Amy, he was deeply attracted by her charm, and the two soon began living together. In less than a year, they got married. He felt incredibly lucky, believing he had found true love, and vowed to work hard and take good care of their home.
He desperately wanted Amy to bear him a son, so that he could have an heir and continue the family bloodline. This would also be an explanation to his parents in heaven.
He recalled his parents' last words: their biggest regret was not being able to witness him start a family and raise children.
Now, he could tell his parents that their wish had been half fulfilled and that a child was on the way.
However, as time went on, he found that no matter how hard they tried, the child always seemed out of reach. He felt that fate was playing tricks on him, and this helplessness gradually made him anxious and increasingly irritable.
He began to question why he had married Amy if she couldn't have children. His dissatisfaction with Amy grew daily.
One day, he returned home drunk and unexpectedly discovered that Amy was having an affair behind his back. At that moment, his long-suppressed anger exploded. He grabbed a knife from the kitchen, rushed into the bedroom, and hacked the man to pieces in front of Amy.
Amy knelt before him, pleading incessantly, claiming that she only wanted to have a child with him and had never had any intention of betraying him.
The man grew even angrier upon hearing this; her explanation sounded to him as an implication that his infertility was his fault. That was the first time he had ever abused Amy, and the first time he had ever so freely vented his anger.
After that, he treated Amy this way more and more frequently, venting his anger in this manner whenever he thought of her betrayal. Gradually, this behavior became a vice.
He stared coldly at Amy, who lay sobbing on the ground, a surge of intense disgust rising within him. In his eyes, it was because of her that his life had become so miserable.
Without her, he believed he would have a beautiful and gentle wife, a child of his own, and his parents in heaven would find comfort.
His thoughts drifted back to Lian, and he couldn't help but curse inwardly: Why did she already have a boyfriend? Why couldn't his wife be that kind of person? Why did it have to be Amy?
Driven by anger and jealousy, the man began to undress. He thought helplessly that since he couldn't have the woman he desired, he could only use Amy as an outlet for his frustrations.
Amy lay on the cold ground, tears silently streaming down her face. In her heart, she cried out, why had her life become such a mess? She only wanted a better life, so why couldn't she find a good man she could rely on?
She stared blankly at the torn invitations, the image of Lian flashing through her mind, a hint of resentment involuntarily appearing in her eyes. It was all Lian's fault; if Lian hadn't shown up, she wouldn't have suffered such a beating.
Why is she able to live such a happy life while I can't? What is it about her that I have that I don't? Back in the orphanage, I was better than her in every way, so why am I the one lying on the ground suffering now?
Amy's mind kept replaying Leanne's scrutinizing gaze, fueling her growing anger. What right did she have to look at me like that? And offer to take me away? Did I need her pity?
Perhaps she's secretly gloating right now, mocking the chaos of my life, mocking my inferiority complex in her presence. Amy was filled with hatred; she glared at the man who was assaulting her, her hateful eyes seeming capable of tearing him to pieces.
...
As Leon and Lian walked back, he could sense that Lian was in a bad mood.
"What's wrong? Are you still worried about Amy?" Leon asked gently.
“Yes, I suspect she has been a victim of domestic violence,” Lian replied in a low voice. “I told her I could take her away from there and hoped she would come with me. But she refused.”
Lian felt a pang of pain as she recalled the moment Amy rejected her and the scars on her body. All she wanted was to help her friend have a better life.
“Don’t take it too hard. You’ve already offered your help, and she chose to refuse herself,” Leon gently comforted Lian. “Perhaps she has her reasons, and we can’t force her to make a choice.”
“Hey, stop worrying about it. You gave her the invitation. If she wants to change things, she’ll come looking for you,” Leon continued, trying to reassure Lian.
Hearing Leon's words, Lian felt somewhat relieved. Yes, she had already given Amy an invitation, and if Amy came to watch the match, she could try to have a deeper conversation with her again.
“Let’s go get something good to eat. I’m starving after being there for so long,” Leon said, clutching his stomach and pretending to be extremely hungry.
Seeing Leon's comical appearance, Lian couldn't help but laugh out loud. Lian's smile was like the spring sunshine, dispelling the previous gloom. Seeing this, Leon also revealed a satisfied smile.
They strolled along the street, searching for nearby food. The small restaurants wafted enticing aromas, making their mouths water. Leon pointed to a rather lively-looking restaurant and suggested, "Let's go there, it looks good."
Leon nodded in agreement, and the two went into the restaurant together. The interior was simply yet cozy, with vintage decorations hanging on the walls, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. They found a seat by the window, and Leon quickly ordered several signature dishes.
At the dinner table, the two chatted easily, discussing everything from everyday matters to their future dreams.
After the meal, they went for a walk in a nearby park to digest their food.
The park was shaded by green trees, filled with the fragrance of flowers, and occasionally the chirping of birds could be heard from afar. They strolled along the paths, enjoying this rare moment of tranquility.
