All-around teacher at the magic academy
Chapter 43 Talk
"Teacher, you wanted to see me?" Harvey pushed open the office door and asked softly.
Leon looked up, a warm smile on his face, and replied kindly, "Yes, Harvey, come and sit down. How's life at the academy lately? Are you settling in well?"
Harvey bowed slightly and replied respectfully, "Teacher, the academy has a very good environment, and I am very satisfied with this kind of life."
Leon nodded in satisfaction, his eyes showing concern: "What are your plans for the future?"
Harvey looked slightly confused, but still said frankly, "Teacher, I have always hoped to stay at the college. If I have the opportunity after graduation, I hope to stay and teach. I really like the comfortable and peaceful life at the college."
Leon was surprised that Harvey thought that way, but it was indeed a good idea. Being a teacher was really nice; the salary was high, the benefits were good, and it wasn't tiring at all.
With only one or two classes a week, no expenses for food and lodging, and a high social status, if one occasionally produces one or two aristocratic children, one's own status will be completely elevated.
Leon gently cut to the chase: "I noticed you haven't registered for the upcoming competition. Aren't you interested in it?" This was the real reason he had invited Harvey here today.
Harvey's eyes revealed his sincerity as he replied, "Teacher, I am indeed very interested in the competition."
Leon frowned slightly, puzzled, and asked, "If that's the case, why didn't you sign up? I understand that several first-year students have already signed up. Are you afraid you won't be selected?"
Harvey's expression turned serious, and he explained, "It's not that I'm giving up because I think I won't be selected; on the contrary, I'm confident I can represent the academy. But as you know, given my low rank, I shouldn't try to impress too much."
He paused for a moment, then continued, "I really want to represent the academy in competitions, but that would make me the center of attention, putting me under the spotlight, which is not the lifestyle I'm looking for. I'd rather have a peaceful and stable life, just being able to stay by my mother's side."
Leon fell silent, surprised that Harvey's concerns stemmed from such a reason. Harvey's words made sense; if he participated, it would undoubtedly attract a lot of attention.
Leon knew Harvey's abilities well; after all, he had been teaching Harvey for a long time. It was no exaggeration to say that even Hansen, a fellow first-year student who worked just as hard, would quickly be defeated by Harvey. He had to admit Harvey's talent; he was a true genius.
Leon realized that his previous considerations were indeed not thorough enough.
Harvey comes from a humble background and has no powerful connections. Once he gains attention, he may be courted by those in power, and if he refuses, it may displease some important figures.
In this world, geniuses who haven't yet matured are often not yet worthy of being called true geniuses; they need time to grow.
Leon looked at Harvey, a wave of guilt washing over him. As a teacher, he felt like a failure for not being able to let his student act according to his wishes.
Harvey's maturity and understanding were shaped by the environment he grew up in, which is also the cruel rule of this world: children from ordinary families who want to climb up often need to rely on a certain power, otherwise they may be nipped in the bud.
Leon decided to change the subject, not wanting to linger on this heavy topic for too long. "Have you encountered any difficulties in your studies lately?" he asked.
Harvey's reply was full of gratitude: "Everything went very smoothly, thanks to Professor Leon's guidance. The academy's courses were not difficult for me."
After hearing this, Leon felt a little less guilty and was pleased with Harvey's progress.
"Alright, you can go back now. Actually, it's nothing much, just a casual chat. By the way, how has your mother been lately?" Leon asked politely.
Harvey's face immediately lit up with a warm smile as he replied, "My mother is in good health. She has been mentioning lately that she would like to invite you, Professor Leon, to our home for dinner."
“That sounds great, I’ll find some time to go.” Leon agreed, thinking to himself that he had indeed been busy lately, but once this period was over, he should definitely visit Harvey’s mother.
Harvey was overjoyed to hear Leon's promise, and then politely bid farewell to Leon.
Leon watched Harvey leave, a ripple of emotion stirring within him. Every time he saw Harvey, he saw a reflection of his younger self in him.
He flipped through the list of participants and noticed that five first-year students had signed up. All of them were from prominent families: Hansen, Emma, Aurora, and two other boys. Even the least noticeable one among them came from a marquis's family.
Leon gently rubbed his forehead, deciding not to delve any further. He was busy enough with his own affairs and didn't have time to consider such unrealistic fantasies.
Starting next week, the academy will hold internal selection competitions, at which time I can personally observe the abilities of the students. He was looking forward to seeing if any first-year students could truly stand out and represent the academy in the competition.
Leon tidied the documents on his desk, planning his schedule for the next few days. He realized it had been a while since he had participated in any law enforcement missions.
However, with the Barton City match approaching, the captain and his team must be incredibly busy and will likely need to send more players. Otherwise, they definitely won't have enough manpower. Thinking of the captain, Leon couldn't help but feel worried. Everyone has their own struggles and lives.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door—knock knock knock.
"Please come in." Leon's voice held a hint of curiosity; he wanted to know who was looking for him at this hour. When the familiar figure appeared at the door, Leon was surprised. "Professor Lean, it's you?"
"What, aren't you welcoming me?" Lian asked with a smile, half-jokingly.
“Of course you’re welcome, but it’s a bit of a surprise. What brings you here?” Leon replied, thinking to himself that he had indeed been busy lately and hadn’t been able to communicate with Professor Lian as much as he wanted.
"Can you come out with me for a bit?" Lian looked at Leon and made the request somewhat shyly. She wasn't sure if Leon would agree because he had been really busy lately.
“No problem.” Leon’s answer was surprisingly straightforward.
"Aren't you going to ask me where I'm going?" Lean didn't expect Leon to agree so easily.
“Wherever you go, I’m willing to accompany you,” Leon replied sincerely.
Upon hearing this, Leon's smile blossomed like a flower. Looking at her joyful expression, Leon was momentarily lost in thought, a gentle smile involuntarily playing on his lips.
