All-around teacher at the magic academy
Chapter 36 Companion
In the dim afternoon light, sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains, casting dappled patterns into a small room.
In the corner of the room, two little girls sat on a tattered blanket, their figures appearing somewhat lonely in the light and shadow.
One of the girls, with big eyes, looked at her companion with curiosity and a hint of envy.
"Have you heard? Someone else was taken away today." Her voice was very low, as if afraid of disturbing something, and her eyes flickered with a complicated light.
The other girl had soft pink hair, as if dyed by the sunset. She nodded slightly, her small face expressionless, but a subtle emotion flickered in her eyes.
"Do you know what that person's name is?" the big-eyed girl asked again, her voice filled with longing, as if she wanted to grasp a glimmer of hope of being led away from the name.
The pink-haired girl gently shook her head, her voice almost inaudible: "I don't know."
A silence fell over the room as the two little girls lost in their own thoughts.
The girl with big eyes unconsciously bit her lip, her gaze falling on the toys beside her, their shared treasures and one of the few sources of joy in the room.
"I really envy her, she's so lucky. I wonder when I'll be taken away," the big-eyed girl said softly, her voice trembling slightly, but she tried to make her tone sound stronger.
...
Lian's childhood was like a painting in warm colors, every stroke filled with the warmth and joy of the orphanage.
In this simple little world, her friendship with Amy, like the old oak tree in the yard, has become deeply rooted over time.
Every day, as the first rays of sunlight pierce through the gap in the curtains, Lian and Amy wake up together, rubbing their sleepy eyes, gently awakened by the morning light.
They wore the uniform blue dresses from the orphanage, the hems fluttering gently, as if symbolizing their carefree childhood.
As the morning sun shines, they work hand in hand to make the bed, carefully smoothing out every wrinkle, just as they are tidying up their own feelings.
At breakfast time, the two sat at one corner of a long table, with simple yet comforting bread and milk in front of them. They would always instinctively pass their food to each other, and that unspoken understanding and the joy of sharing made even the most ordinary food taste exceptionally delicious.
In class, Lian was a focused student, her eyes sparkling with a thirst for knowledge. Whenever the teacher asked a question, she was always the first to raise her hand to answer. Amy, on the other hand, had a more imaginative soul. She often secretly observed the birds outside the window during class, her thoughts drifting far away with the birds' flight.
After class, the orphanage's garden became their paradise. They chased butterflies fluttering among the flowers, or found a secret corner under the shade of the trees to exchange their little secrets and dreams.
In Lian and Amy's hearts, there is a little world of their own, which they created through the game of "playing house".
In this imaginative space, they skillfully molded soil and leaves into delicate cakes, while stones and sticks built a cozy little home. In this fictional home, they played the roles of each other's family, caring for one another and weaving together a beautiful vision for their future life.
In the summer, the stream near the orphanage became their haven from the heat. They rolled up their trousers and carefully waded into the cool water, catching the lively little fish. The shimmering water and their laughter mingled together, clear and melodious, like a summer hymn.
In winter, they would gather around the fireplace and listen to the nuns tell stories, legends of heroes and magic that filled their hearts with fantasy.
Although life in the orphanage could sometimes seem monotonous, Lian and Amy's childhood was filled with color because of each other's companionship.
In every day they spent together, they learned how to be strong in adversity and how to remain optimistic in the face of difficulties. Those days, like pearls strung on a necklace of their memories, became the most precious treasures of their lives.
In this loving little courtyard, Lian and Amy were like two resilient little seeds. Nourished by love and friendship, they slowly took root, sprouted, and grew into two hopeful little lives. Their childhood, though simple, became incredibly rich and warm because of each other.
Lian's heart found a home in this loving and peaceful orphanage. She cherished every moment there, every laugh with Amy, and every day chasing each other in the garden.
However, unlike Lian's satisfaction, Amy's soul yearned for a wider sky.
In Amy's heart, there was a restless little bird that always flew beyond the courtyard wall in her dreams. She longed for the outside world, a place full of unknowns and possibilities.
She often gazes at the starry sky at night, imagining that one day a gentle voice will call her name and take her away from the closed courtyard where she grew up, to a brand new home.
Amy's eyes always sparkled with longing for the outside world. Her absent-mindedness in class and her silent daydreaming in the garden were all expressions of her boundless yearning for the future.
She dreams of one day being able to wear beautiful clothes, go to school, play in the park, and even have her own room filled with her favorite books and toys.
Lian saw it all. Although she didn't understand why Amy was so eager to leave, she always supported her friend's decision.
She knew that if Amy were ever taken away, she would see her off with a smile, even though she felt an unspeakable reluctance in her heart. Because Lian understood that Amy's dream, like the seeds they had planted together, would one day blossom and bear fruit, and she was willing to be the one to protect Amy's dream.
...
Leanne looked at Leon with gentle yet firm eyes as she recounted her past, those years in the orphanage, a secret she had kept deep in her heart.
When she saw Leon return from outside the academy looking dejected, her heart felt as if it had been pricked by a needle, and she felt a pang of heartache.
She knew he must have encountered something terrible. She could feel Leon's pain, his helplessness and confusion. She wanted to reach out and hug this frail figure.
Leon's eyes revealed surprise. He never expected that Mr. Lean, who was always smiling and gentle, would have such a past.
He looked at Teacher Lian's serene face, her eyes sparkling with resilience and hope, which gave him an unprecedented sense of warmth and strength.
The two sat on the lawn of the college and talked for a long time. He also told Professor Lian about what had happened during this period. The troubles and setbacks that had been troubling him, and the painful experiences, poured out like a released flood.
The afterglow of the setting sun bathed them, casting long shadows that overlapped and intertwined on the lawn, seemingly symbolizing the exchange and fusion of their hearts at that moment.
