Chapter 218 Wake up
He always felt that he had let Arthur down, that he wasn't a good brother, and that he wasn't even his brother.
Arthur had been kept in the dark, and this was the source of Leon's guilt towards him—an unspeakable pain.
Every time Arthur did a lot for him, every time Arthur selflessly cared for and looked after him, his guilt deepened. So he always tried to avoid troubling Arthur and always tried to make up for this debt in his own way.
Even when Arthur died, he never called him "brother," a regret and pain that would forever remain in his heart.
Leon didn't dare look up at Arthur. He didn't know what Arthur's expression would be after he found out about this. He was afraid that Arthur would despise him or even hate him because of this, and that this special brotherhood would be broken because of it.
His heart raced as he awaited Arthur's reaction; every second of silence felt like torture.
Leon clenched his hands tightly, ready to accept whatever decision Arthur made—whether it was anger, disappointment, or alienation—he was willing to bear it all, simply because he knew that the truth was what Arthur deserved.
“I know,” Arthur said softly, his voice devoid of shock or anger, only calm and deep understanding.
When Leon heard this, he was incredulous and could hardly believe his ears.
He struggled to lift his head and look at Arthur, and when he met Arthur's gaze, Leon's emotions completely collapsed.
Tears, as big as beans, streamed down his face uncontrollably. He didn't know why he was like this, but he just couldn't help it.
These tears were both gratitude for Arthur's forgiveness and a release of what they had long concealed.
Arthur looked at him and gently patted Leon's shoulder, a silent comfort that conveyed warmth and strength.
"Actually, I've missed you a lot since you left. You are my only family in this world. Without you, I might not have survived in the first place."
Leon spoke in a hoarse voice, his words filled with dependence on and deep affection for Arthur.
Arthur never expected that he would be so important to Leon. He always thought that Leon treated him as an outsider, but he never expected that Leon had such deep feelings for him.
After the matter was discussed openly, Leon felt much more relaxed, and the rift between them seemed to dissipate.
Leon told Arthur about the world he came from before, a world without magic, but with more advanced technology than this one.
He recounted many stories, from the conveniences of daily life to the wonders of exploring the universe, and Arthur listened with fascination to every detail.
Arthur listened attentively, his eyes occasionally revealing longing and curiosity.
Feeling that it was about time, Arthur interrupted Leon, who was telling his story. His smile held a hint of reluctance, but more so a sense of relief and satisfaction: "I'm leaving now."
Leon was puzzled, even at a loss. He didn't know what Arthur meant by those words, but a sense of unease welled up inside him, making him somewhat flustered.
"Where are you going?" Leon asked urgently, his voice trembling slightly.
"Seeing that you are doing well puts my mind at ease. Now I can finally leave and go find Rhine."
Arthur said, his eyes softening as if he were reminiscing about the good times he had with his real brother.
Leon could already guess what Arthur meant. His heart felt like it had been struck a heavy blow. He had so much to say to Arthur, but at this moment, all words seemed pale and powerless. All his words ultimately turned into a heartfelt call: "Brother."
Upon hearing Leon's words, Arthur paused for a moment, then burst into a happy laugh. His smile was as warm as the sun, illuminating Leon's heart.
“You don’t belong here. You have a long way to go. We must part ways here,” Arthur said, his voice firm yet gentle.
Then, he gave Leon a push back, a powerful push that seemed to encourage Leon to keep going.
Leon felt a warm power envelop him, and then he saw Arthur's figure begin to blur and gradually disappear from his sight.
His eyes filled with tears. He wanted to reach out and grab Arthur, but in the end, he could only helplessly watch his brother disappear into the white world.
……
Leon slowly opened his eyes, feeling the moisture in the corners of his eyes. He reached out and gently wiped them, his fingertips stained with traces of tears.
His vision gradually cleared, and looking at the somewhat dilapidated ceiling, Leon knew that he had probably returned to reality. The scene of meeting Arthur might have just been a dream, but the emotions in it felt so real.
He struggled to sit up and looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings.
This is a simple little house, with mottled walls that show the marks of time.
The surrounding furnishings were very simple, with almost no furniture, only a simple, worn-out table and a few rickety chairs. In addition, there were some fishing tools and nets scattered in the corners, suggesting that the owner of this place was probably a fisherman.
Leon gently got out of bed and moved his body a little. Although he felt a little weak, he could feel that his limbs were healthy and uninjured.
He took a deep breath, savoring the scent of the sea in the air, which made him realize that he might be in a small seaside town.
Just then, some unfamiliar voices came from outside, growing louder as if someone was walking towards the small house.
"Going to take care of that adopted person again, Asha?" A questioning voice came from outside the door, tinged with confusion.
"Yes, we need to feed him something, otherwise my brother said his body might not be able to handle it." The girl named Asha's voice was soft, but you could hear a hint of childishness in it.
"If you ask me, you should just leave it alone. She hasn't woken up for so long, she might not wake up at all. Isn't this just causing you trouble?" another voice complained, clearly holding a different opinion on the matter.
“How could that be? My brother said he looks much better these past two days,” Asha retorted.
"You don't even know who this person is, so don't end up getting involved."
"But we can't just leave him alone..."
"I'm not going to talk about it anymore, I still need to feed him." Asha ended the chat and didn't continue the topic.
She opened the door with light steps and walked into the simple little house.
The moment the door was opened, Asha was stunned. Her eyes widened as she stared blankly at the person standing in front of her.
Her heart raced at that moment, her surprise evident; she clearly hadn't expected Leon to be awake and standing up.
Leon looked at the petite girl in front of him, whose skin was tanned a little dark. She was a head shorter than him and looked very young, but she had a pair of lively eyes.
She was holding a bowl of steaming soup in her hands, which emitted a faint fragrance. It was unclear what ingredients it was made of.
He forced a smile, looked at the somewhat bewildered girl, and said with a smile, "Hello."
