All-around teacher at the magic academy
Chapter 100 Exposed
“Go to St. Peter’s Academy and become a teacher. There will be a time when you are useful.” Duke Chloe’s gaze pierced through the thick air and landed on Logan kneeling below, his tone revealing an unquestionable authority.
Logan looked up, a hint of confusion in his eyes. "Will they accept me?" His voice carried a hint of uncertainty. St. Peter's Academy was so prestigious, could he really get in?
"Yes, you are qualified." Duke Chloe's answer was brief and firm, his eyes seemingly revealing an acknowledgment of Logan's abilities.
Logan took a deep breath, trying to find his place in this new role, "Can you give me a clear goal?"
There was a hint of longing in his voice. What he needed now was not just a job, but a purpose to live, proof that he still existed in this world.
Duke Chloe nodded slightly, seemingly prepared for Logan's request.
“In two years, Duke Adams’ youngest son will be entering St. Peter’s College. You know, I don’t get along with him, so I’ll have to trouble you then.” His words revealed a deep scheming, as if Logan would become a key piece on his chessboard.
Logan answered without hesitation, "Okay."
...
These two years were a rare period of peace and happiness for Logan. During his time at St. Peter's College, he seemed to have found a long-lost tranquility.
He had not received any news from Duke Chloe, not even a single contact, which made him begin to wonder, to some extent, whether he had been forgotten by the powerful duke.
However, this feeling of being forgotten was a relief for Logan. He immersed himself in this peaceful life, enjoying the protection the Academy provided him.
Here, he could do whatever he liked without external interference or the constraints of power. He taught students, immersing himself in the ocean of knowledge, and exploring the mysteries of the world with young minds.
Sometimes, Logan would sit in his study, gazing at the campus outside the window, a gentle sense of contentment welling up inside him. He thought how wonderful it would be if he could live like this forever, without intrigue or struggle, only the transmission of knowledge and the growth of the soul.
However, life often throws curveballs when people least expect it. Just when Logan thought he could live peacefully like this forever, a letter from the Duke of Chloe shattered all tranquility.
Logan's heart raced as his fingers touched the heavy letter. He knew the moment had finally arrived; he had to fulfill his promise and carry out the mission he had once tried to escape.
He was not a treacherous person; the Duke of Chloe had offered him help when he needed it most, and he had promised to be at the Duke's beck and call.
Over the years, he had kept this promise, though he had always struggled internally with this constraint. However, when it came to actually dealing with someone he had no grudge against, especially a student from the academy, he was caught in an unprecedented internal conflict.
However, at that moment, his will to survive ultimately triumphed over his conscience. He convinced himself that it was not worth sacrificing his life for a stranger.
He kept telling himself that once it was all over, he could still teach at the college as usual and continue reading his history books. Perhaps, probably, nothing would change.
...
Hansen lay quietly on the bed, his breathing gradually becoming steady. His once pale face slowly regained some color, and the sweat on his forehead evaporated, as if the life-or-death struggle he had just endured was merely a nightmare. His body repaired itself in his sleep, each breath carrying away some of the fatigue and pain.
He slowly opened his eyes, and the world before him went from blurry to clear, with sunlight streaming through the gaps in the curtains into a corner of the room.
His head still throbbed slightly, a sensation as if his brain was reminding him that what he had experienced was not a hallucination. Just as his consciousness was about to sink into the abyss of darkness, he seemed to hear Professor Leon's voice, a voice like a distant call, pulling him back to reality little by little.
However, when he fully regained consciousness and looked around, he found the room empty; Professor Leon was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps the voice was merely a hallucination born of his despair, a dream woven from his yearning for life on the brink of death.
Hansen gently rubbed his temples, trying to dispel the lingering pain. He sat up, feeling every inch of his skin, every cell telling a story of a miracle of life. He didn't know how he had struggled back from the brink of death, but he knew he needed to live on.
...
"What's wrong, Professor Leon? Is there something you need?" Logan looked at Leon's serious face, his voice carrying a hint of barely perceptible tension.
“You went to visit Hansen.” Leon’s tone wasn’t a question, but rather a statement of fact. His eyes were fixed on Logan, as if searching for some clue.
Upon hearing this, Mr. Logan's pupils dilated involuntarily for a moment, and his heart raced. But he quickly composed himself and tried to regain his composure.
“Yeah, I heard he was injured, so I went to check on him,” Logan explained casually, his fingers unconsciously rubbing the door frame, trying to hide his unease.
He knew he had to act as normally as possible and not let Leon suspect anything. Perhaps it was all just a coincidence, and he shouldn't have been discovered so easily.
Logan took a deep breath and continued, "As a teacher, it's only right that I care about my students' injuries, isn't it?"
Leon didn't answer immediately. His gaze lingered on Logan's face for a moment, as if assessing the veracity of his words. Finally, he nodded, but the doubt in his eyes didn't disappear.
"Have you found the killer who attacked you before?" Leon's words were like a sharp knife, piercing straight into Logan's heart. Logan's heart tightened; he knew that Leon's words must conceal some information he knew.
“There are no leads.” Logan tried his best to keep his voice calm.
"I found it." As soon as Leon finished speaking, the atmosphere in the room became tense.
"Oh? Who is it?" Logan tried his best to feign surprise, but he dared not look Leon in the eye, afraid that his acting skills were not good enough.
"Do you choose to go to the law enforcement yourself, or should I take you there?" Leon's gaze was as sharp as a hawk's, fixed on Logan, every word filled with pressure.
