Mythology: Ragnarok

Chapter 61 Competition

After making some preparations, Agreed rode his dragon steed and the rest of his team to the mansion of the governor Harvey. They arrived at Harvey's residence in less than a day.

After passing through the heavy gates, Agred saw Harvey teasing a white reindeer in an iron cage with a carrot. Agred stepped forward and greeted him, "Lord Harvey, 'The Witch' has come here to serve as you commanded."

Harvey looked at Agreed and exclaimed happily, "Ah, it's great to see you all. The infamous Demon Sorcerer Squad is right in front of us, which gives me even more confidence in the Beast Guard."

Agreed retorted, "Notorious? Your assessment of us seems rather exaggerated."

Harvey laughed and explained, "Your team is the strongest adventurer team in Avalon. You killed the former orc sword saint, handed the city lord over to the vampires to save the kingdom, and slaughtered seventy-six goblin caves in fifteen days. You have a zero failure rate in your missions. I have heard about your terrible deeds before. And what I just mentioned is only the tip of the iceberg of your terrifying achievements."

Agreed responded humbly, "You truly deserve to be called the governor of the frontier; you have noticed even my humble affairs."

Harvey chuckled at the compliment, but then Agreed abruptly changed the subject and asked, "Sir, your subordinates are all exceptionally powerful. What kind of danger makes you willing to spend a fortune to hire them to serve you?"

Upon hearing this, Harvey's expression immediately changed as he looked at Agreed. Then, he narrowed his eyes and said, "It seems you are a smart man. So, what do you think I'm worried about?"

Agreed asked tentatively, "You are worried about the schemes and tactics of your political enemies, and the covetousness and plunder of others, but I am more interested in knowing who it is so that I can take more effective precautions."

Harvey took a deep breath, then sighed, “My political enemy, ‘Naturu,’ who is also the cabinet leader, and ‘Kingpin,’ the finance minister of the neighboring country who was recently promoted, are both eyeing this white deer. The former wants to make a fuss about it, while the latter is genuinely after it. This white deer is not as simple as you think. You will find out later.”

“Then I’ll wait and see,” Agreed joked.

Afterwards, Agreed led his team to meet the guards. Rayleigh quickly became friends with the guards thanks to his silver tongue, while Hea was surrounded by a group of spirited young men who fawned over her. Sophie went around challenging people, while Shakda and Ike found like-minded people to chat with.

Only Agreed remained elsewhere, lost in thought. At that moment, the captain of the guard, Robin Strau, approached Agreed and asked, "What are you thinking about, Mr. Witch?"

Agreed turned to look at him, then shook his head slightly and said, "It's nothing, it's just that hearing a familiar name reminded me of the past."

"Oh, may I ask who it was that triggered these feelings in you?" Robin asked again.

“Kingpin.” Agreed replied, his eyes filled with solemnity as he looked into the distance.

Upon hearing this name, Robin became even more interested and continued to ask, "Have you ever dealt with that important finance minister from the neighboring country?"

Agreed chuckled and replied noncommittally, "I guess so, but to be honest, it wasn't a good relationship. I used to think about killing him every single moment."

Robin laughed heartily and said, "Who knows, you might have the chance to do that someday." With that, he walked forward and called to his team members to quickly pack their equipment and get ready to set off.

At this moment, Agreed looked at Robin and smiled unconsciously, "I'm looking forward to this day."

The guard then led the white deer, which was loaded onto a carriage, out of the city in a grand manner and headed east. After some time, Agreed, along with his men and a small group of elite guards, disguised themselves as a caravan through a side gate and left the city with a large carriage covered by a black cloth, taking another route towards the imperial city.

The first caravan was just a decoy; the real white deer was with Agreed and his group. Disguised as a merchant caravan, they embarked on their journey in the most discreet way possible.

Hea was constantly harassed along the way, Rayleigh was extremely busy, Ike and Shakda lived in their own world, and Sophie was constantly challenging people to fights. All of this gave Agreed a headache. The only thing that comforted him was that there wasn't a single woman in the kitchen of the guard team this time, which at least allowed him to have a hot meal in peace.

That evening, Heya suddenly leaned over and said, "I have something I want to tell you. Come with me."

Agreed followed her with some skepticism to a secluded grove nearby, then asked, "Is there something you want to tell me?"

After looking around to make sure no one was around, Heya said in a panic, "The white deer we're escorting isn't as simple as we thought. It's a high-level magical beast, or rather, a high-level tamable war beast!"

Agreed frowned and asked in return, "Advanced war beast?"

Heya then reminded her, "It looks a lot like the Five-Colored Deer that only the Elven royal family can ride, and I tested it on the road during the day. It has its own unique special magic skills!"

Argreed immediately broke out in a cold sweat, asking incredulously, "You mean that white deer... is comparable to the 'Five-Colored Deer,' the war beast raised by the Elven royal family! This level of war beast is born with its own unique magical skills, making it far more precious than a dragon steed. It can be said to be a top-tier strategic resource. So we're transporting a strategic resource even rarer and more precious than a unicorn! If we can use it to breed offspring, it will affect the military power of the entire country. What we're transporting now is a military treasure. If the news gets out, there will definitely be more than just the two groups Harvey mentioned! Now I understand why Kingpin coveted it; he must have received news of its existence."

Heya nodded and said, "We can only remain silent about this for now. If we don't handle it well, it could easily turn into a power struggle between nations, and we would definitely become the victims."

Agreed said with some concern, "Do you think they might kill us to cover it up?"

Heya sighed and said, "We can't rule out that possibility. The interests involved are too great, and it's hard to guarantee that the royal family won't discard us after they've served their purpose. So... we need to figure out a way out as soon as possible."

Agreed and Hea then emerged from the woods and returned to the camp. Rayleigh watched this scene, shaking his head and muttering to himself, "Such a short time? The captain's kidneys aren't doing so well. Tsk tsk tsk, his wife is so pitiful."

Having one foot in the ranks of archmages and possessing superhuman senses, Agreed naturally heard Rayleigh's nonsense. So he immediately accelerated and delivered a flying kick to Rayleigh's face again, roaring angrily, "What are you barking about? What are you barking about?!"

Rayleigh quickly stood up and said obsequiously, "I was just concerned about your health."

Agreed pointed at him and scolded, "You better behave yourself and stop spreading rumors. Luckily, there are very few women in this team, so you've basically lost the ability to cause trouble."
