Chapter 40 Discovery

Despite the swarm of filthy pests, Agreed remained calm. He chanted the fifth-tier spell 'Chain Lightning', and with the help of his wand, the transmissible current instantly electrocuted all the monsters. Agreed then followed up with another Chain Lightning, completely killing all the monsters present.

After clearing the area, Agreed took out his fine steel knife and began to harvest the spoils. Although monsters do not have magic crystals in their bodies like magical beasts, some parts of their bodies still have value. Before coming here, Agreed specifically asked which parts of these monsters were useful and also found out where to buy these monster materials.

"The claws and teeth of the demon rat, the skin, bones and gall of the demon snake, the wings and shell of the cockroach—that should be all. There's no need to retrieve the ones that fell into the water; they've probably been washed away, and the place is just too smelly," Agreed muttered as he dealt with his spoils.

Having been a hunter, Agreed quickly finished collecting the spoils. After stuffing the materials he had obtained into his spatial ring, Agreed used the second-tier magic 'Guiding Spirit' to illuminate and lead himself further into the sewers.

The monsters they encountered along the way increased, but these weaklings didn't even have the strength to make Agreed take them seriously. Agreed simply swept through them, leaving them no complete corpses. The dark sewers were littered with the remains of monsters.

But soon Agreed discovered a new problem. While dissecting a snake-like magical beast that had suddenly appeared, he was surprised to find several arrow wounds on the snake's abdomen. However, the wounds were peculiar. They were too small and too rough, indicating that the arrowheads were not some kind of refined product but more like homemade blowguns. But... would anyone in Augustus come to the sewers and use such trash weapons to provoke this magical snake, which had evolved into a magical beast and stood at the top of the sewer food chain?

Agreed found it increasingly strange; he had a bad feeling and a terrible idea, but he needed to confirm them.

Agreed reached out and used the vibration to roughly probe the entire sewer, searching for any alien creatures that shouldn't be there. Soon, Agreed detected some strange biological reactions.

"I hope it's not what I'm thinking." Agreed looked at the direction where he had detected the anomaly, his expression grave.

Agreed slowly made his way to the location and saw several small, humanoid creatures gathered at what looked like an entrance. They were hunched over, mostly only about 1.4 meters tall, like dwarfs, with long tails hanging down to the ground. Most notably, they had heads that were almost indistinguishable from rats.

Agreed watched the strange creatures from the shadows, muttering, "My worst fears have come true. Skaven have appeared in the sewers! Damn it, how did these creatures, who usually live in dungeons, end up here!"

Skaven are very strange intelligent beings. No one has explained how they came to be. Legend has it that they and goblins are creations of an evil god. Some say that the Skaven are alien creatures that came to this continent in strange flying rockets. But it is undeniable that no human city wants a Skaven dungeon as a neighbor.

Because the Skaven bring humanity's most troublesome friend, the 'Plague,' and because they possess bizarre technologies that allow them to unleash combat abilities that baffle humanity, the Skaven never coexist with other races. They simply accumulate power and wait for the opportune moment to devour and destroy the cities they infest.

So when Agreed met the Skaven, he realized that the situation had escalated beyond his control. Just as he was about to retreat, the appearance of another race gave him another fright.

A group of goblins, about the same height as the ratmen, with green skin and sharp, long ears, came over carrying homemade wooden weapons. After exchanging a few words with the ratmen, the ratmen parted the way, revealing the underground passage behind them, allowing the goblins to enter the underground city.

Seeing this, Agreed exclaimed in a low voice in fear, "Goblins?! Damn it, another intelligent race? Is the Augustus underground sewers really that lively?! No, if we let them continue to develop peacefully underground like this, Augustus... will be destroyed sooner or later!"

Thinking of this, Agreed immediately got up to leave and report what he had observed to the Adventurers' Guild and his teacher. But unexpectedly, a Goblin Slayer suddenly appeared in the dark shadows, brandishing a bone dagger and stabbing Agreed in the back of the heart.

Agreed didn't notice the suddenly appearing assassin, so the attack was effective. Fortunately, the defensive magic item on Agreed's body triggered instantly, blocking the fatal blow for him. After noticing the attack, Agreed instantly cast the third-tier magic 'Fireball', burning the suddenly appearing goblin assassin directly.

The massive flames and Goblin Slayer's pitiful cries instantly drew the attention of the ratmen. They immediately produced whistle-like sound-emitting devices to warn the entire sewer system. Agreed didn't dare linger and activated his 'Windwalk' magic, desperately running towards the nearest sewer exit.

But soon dozens of ratmen and goblins appeared out of nowhere and surrounded Agreed. The ratmen held strange weapons and pulled the triggers. Green, poisonous arrows shot out at Agreed as the mechanism activated. Agreed quickly cast defensive magic and blocked all the green arrows that looked ominous.

The goblins, armed with simple and brutal blowguns, relentlessly attacked Agreed in conjunction with the ratmen. Seeing that their attacks could not penetrate the magic shield, the goblins, clad in leather armor and wielding wooden weapons, rushed forward and smashed the magic shield in a few blows. But at that moment, Agreed activated the sixth-tier spell 'Illusory Shadow' that he had been chanting. In the blink of an eye, Agreed disappeared from the enemies' sight. At the same time, Agreed triggered the spell 'Blinding' that he had left in his steel dagger. The bright light caused the enemies to flee in pain, and Agreed took the opportunity to break through the encirclement.

By the time the goblins and ratmen turned around, Agreed had already broken out of their encirclement and successfully returned to the surface through the sewer exit. After emerging from the sewer, Agreed sat on the ground, panting heavily, still shaken. If he had run any slower, he would have been surrounded and killed by the endless stream of enemies.

After regaining some strength, Agreed stood up and quickly headed to the Adventurers' Guild to explain what he had seen.

This unexpected discovery means this semester is destined to be fraught with danger once again, and Agreed is unaware that even greater challenges lie ahead.
