Mythology: Ragnarok
Chapter 4 Disaster
When Iz saw Uncle Reiler, she excitedly shouted, "Uncle, I hunted a wild boar today. I hid the return gift in your woodpile, but I was afraid it would get lost, so I came back to check."
After hearing this, Reiler sighed helplessly and said, "I already told you that the deer leg was a gift for you. Can you please stop being so stubborn?" With that, Reiler walked to the woodpile, took out the four pig trotters, and was about to put them back into Iz's hands.
Unexpectedly, Iz took a step back, put her hands behind her back, and said, "Uncle Reiler, if you do this to me, I won't come again. If you do this to me, I'll be too ashamed to come here again."
Lehler was speechless at these words and could only give up, saying, "Then I'll thank you for your generous gift. Well done, kid, look at the size of the wild boar you caught."
Iz puffed out his chest and said, "That's right, I am your apprentice after all, so my skills are naturally not weak."
Reiler lightly patted Iz's head with his large hand and said, "You brat, you're getting cocky now that I've told you you're fat. Alright, don't get too smug. Remember what I said: there's no room for carelessness in the hunter's profession. You can be a hunter..."
“It could also be prey!” Iz chimed in, speaking first. “Alright, Uncle Reiler, I have to go home. My parents said we’re moving again. Thank you for taking care of us over the years, thank you.”
As he spoke, Izz bowed to Reiler. Reiler looked at Izz with affection. Although he was considered a half-apprentice, Reiler regarded him more as his own child. After spending so much time together, Reiler grew to like this gentle yet lively boy more and more. This boy had a cleverness without being presumptuous, which was the most precious thing. Now that Izz said he was leaving, Reiler was a little reluctant to part with him.
Suddenly, as if he had just thought of something, Reiler said to Iz, "Iz, wait a moment, I have a farewell gift for you."
Before Reiler could finish speaking, he excitedly returned to his house, then handed Iz a dagger by the back of the blade and the hilt, saying, "This is a small knife made of fine steel. If you go to a new place and continue to work as a hunter, you'll find it useful."
Upon seeing this, Izzy quickly declined, saying, "This is too valuable, I can't accept it."
What a joke! Fine steel is a material used only in military weapons. Don't underestimate this small knife; it's worth at least twenty silver coins on the market. It's far too valuable. Iz can't accept it.
This time, Reiler didn't force it, after all, it wouldn't be good if the knife hurt someone. So, he unusually played the emotional card and said, "Iz, do you acknowledge me as your master? I've lived a life without children, all alone. You're my favorite disciple. Consider this my last gift to you. In the future, when you see this knife, remember my teachings to you."
Upon hearing this, Izz hesitated instantly. Firstly, he genuinely liked the knife, and secondly, Reiler's words had truly touched his heart. While Izz was still hesitating, Reiler, seeing Izz's hesitant expression, knew there was a chance and carefully placed the knife into Izz's hand. Then, he patted Izz's shoulder, said nothing more, and turned to walk into his wooden hut. However, Izz did not see the tears welling up in Reiler's eyes.
Iz put away the dagger that Reiler had given him, and then used the ten silver coins he had earned that day to buy some gifts and bid a final farewell to his neighbors over the years. Iz bought a scarf for Grandma Lina who had taken care of him, a piece of pig liver for the Norm family who had taken care of him when he was a child, and Iz also gave some things to many of his neighbors as a token of his gratitude.
Iz had assumed that life would continue in this orderly fashion, that...
Until that night, everything changed.
After delivering the gifts, Izzy ran happily home as the sun set. When she got home and opened the gate, she saw a group of people dressed in white standing in front of her house. Their clothes were trimmed with gold and looked extremely noble. The man who seemed to be the leader was grabbing her father by the neck and asking him something. There must have been a fight at home. Her mother was lying on the ground, covered in blood and silent.
At this moment, Izzy tried to rush forward but stumbled and fell to the ground. This was not for any particular reason, but simply because of... fear! Izzy was scared. He was just a teenager. He needed to mentally prepare himself to kill a wild boar, but now he was facing a group of ruthless demons. What's more, he saw his mother lying in front of him.
Izzy was terrified. Fear made him cowardly, and he knelt on the ground, frantically pawing the ground and backing away. He was terrified. At that moment, neither familial love nor anger helped him overcome his fear. He only remembered his father's words: "Run! Run without looking back!"
Izzy got up and ran out of town in a flash. At this time, the members of the Church of Light also noticed the child who had seen the crime scene. One of the men waved his hand and a teleportation magic circle appeared. Then a demonic wolf jumped out of the magic circle and walked to the man like a docile pet.
The man pointed in the direction Iz had fled and said, "Go, kill that kid! And wipe out the entire town while you're at it."
Izzy's father was ashen-faced. So many years had passed, yet these beasts were still so ruthless. But he glanced at the spot where Izzy had disappeared and smiled with relief. At least Izzy had escaped. He wasn't disappointed by Izzy's escape; on the contrary, he was happy. His son had listened to him. He didn't expect Izzy to take revenge; he only hoped his son would live well, not for any other reason than because he was a father.
Thinking of this, Izzy's father mustered his last bit of strength to summon a magical arrow and strike the wolf chasing Izzy. However, he was too weak, and the magical arrow only pierced the wolf's fur, causing it some injury. The wolf rolled on the ground a few times and then stood up again as if nothing had happened, chasing after Izzy. At this moment, the wolf's master reacted and angrily took his staff and struck Izzy's father's head repeatedly, eventually beating him to death.
Although the other members of the Church of Light immediately stepped forward to stop him, Izzy's father's head had already been smashed into a bloody pulp by that irrational companion. Seeing this, the leader also scolded, "John, you've gone too far! Now that he's dead, where are we going to find the Bible for the dead? Don't think that just because your elders are high-ranking members of the church, you can disregard the law!"
John said dismissively, "Anyway, the order from above is to destroy the Bible of the Dead. Once he dies, the Bible will be lost, which is no different from it being destroyed."
The captain stared at him in silence. This bastard had been doing unnecessary things and leaving many hidden dangers. If it weren't for the fact that his grandfather was a church elder and his parents were also high-ranking members of the church, he would have really wanted to kill this reckless bastard.
In the end, he had no choice but to compromise: "Release more of your magical beasts to make it look like this place was destroyed by magical beasts that suddenly appeared. Make it clean; the church doesn't want these ugly things to get back to other countries."
John scoffed and replied casually, "I don't need you to tell me." At the same time, the teleportation array activated again, and more than a dozen magical beasts emerged from it to begin a brutal massacre of the small town with only a thousand inhabitants. That night, screams and cries drowned out the roars of the magical beasts, and pain and despair filled the entire dark night.
