Chapter 78 Divine Punishment

Early the next morning, Deng Yin knocked on his neighbor's door.

An elderly man who looked quite old opened the door. "Who are you?"

“I’m a relative of Aunt Wang next door. I came here yesterday and found that she was gone. I wanted to ask if you know anything about her.”

Upon hearing this, the old man's expression immediately changed.

"Go away, I don't have time to argue with you about this. Not a single good person in your family is any good."

You could tell from the old man's words that he knew something.

Deng used his hand to block the door, preventing the old man from closing it.

"Tell me everything you know."

"Whose child are you? How dare you be so ill-mannered? Get out of here right now, or I'll call for help."

Deng Yin took out a gold coin from his sleeve and said, "Tell me where this family went, and this gold coin is yours."

The old man stared at the gold coins, his eyes wide with amazement.

"Okay, okay, give it to me, I'll tell you right away."

Deng Yin gave the gold coins to the old man. She wasn't afraid of the old man taking the money; she was afraid that he was so old that even one leg could catch up with him.

The old man carefully examined the gold coin to make sure it was real before speaking, "You know that the government is arresting children born in the year, month, and hour of the Yin (yin)?"

Deng Yin nodded. "I understand."

“You’re a relative of theirs, don’t you know that their children were born in an unlucky year, month, and hour? When the authorities came to arrest them, they refused and even beat people up. After that, no one knows where they went.”

"If you ask me, they should have just handed the child over to the authorities. Even though their child died, it could have saved many lives. Instead, they stubbornly resisted, and now look what happened—the whole family is in deep trouble."

It seems they've gone into hiding; it's good that they're alright.

"When did this happen?"

"It will take three or four days."

Having obtained the information he wanted, Deng Yin revealed his true colors.

She pulled out a stun gun, smiled at the old man, and said, "Robbery."

The old man's face instantly darkened. "You promised to give me the money, and now you want to back out? If you try to escape now, I might spare your life, otherwise... Aaaaaaahhhhhh!"

Deng Yin didn't give the old man time to threaten him; he directly shoved the stun gun into the old man's stomach.

Because it was set to the lowest setting, the click effect wasn't very strong, but it was enough to deal with an old man.

"I'll say it again, it's a robbery."

The old man trembled, whether from fear or the electric shock, and dared not speak. He shakily reached out and returned the gold coins to Deng Yin.

Deng Yin didn't answer; he still had that smiling look on his face, but his eyes were cold and indifferent.

Although she didn't speak, the old man understood what she meant.

"This is all the money I have, I really have none left."

The fact that he could carry five silver coins with him suggests that this old man was quite wealthy.

Deng Yin took the money without saying a word.

The old man must still have savings, but it doesn't matter; Deng Yin didn't care about that amount of money anyway.

The initial offer of a gold coin was merely a ploy to get him to tell the truth more quickly.

No one can insult Deng Yin's people and still accept money from him.

Deng Yin walked down the street, pondering how he could find a few people.

A woman sat calmly in the shade by the roadside, holding her infant child.

"The porridge is being served. Line up and don't rush."

The speaker was the steward of the Prince's mansion, and upon hearing this, everyone rushed towards him.

But the woman by the roadside remained motionless.

Deng Yin walked up to her and squatted down.

"Why didn't you go to the porridge distribution?"

The woman's lips were pale and cracked, and her throat sounded like a broken bellows, with a dry quality.

"You can't get it."

The housekeeper told everyone to line up and not to rush, but he didn't actually stop them.

Everyone was scrambling for a piece of porridge; some even pushed over the people in front of them in order to get a sip.

The person who falls to the ground doesn't have time to get up; they'll appear at someone's feet in the next second.

One after another, people fell, and then others took their place, only to be pushed down again.

Deng Yin finally understood why she didn't go.

Deng Yin reached into his clothes and pulled out a pancake.

"Here you go." Deng Yin secretly slipped the cake into the woman's arms. She understood the principle that "a common man is innocent, but possessing a treasure is a crime."

If we can't stand idly by, then we won't do anything.

The woman quickly hid the pancakes, threw the child on the ground, and pointed at Deng Yin, shouting, "Come here! She has pancakes!"

The child didn't cry when he was thrown to the ground. Deng Yin looked at the cloth bag, but there was no child inside, only a wad of cloth.

Hearing the woman's words, many people walked towards Deng Yin's direction. They were all plump and strong, and showed no signs of having experienced a natural disaster.

Seeing Deng Yin looking at the cloth bag, the woman smiled and explained, "People like us, how can we afford to raise children? Don't worry, as long as you hand over the food and money you have, we'll let you go."

Deng Yin's expression remained unchanged, and he did not show any sense of betrayal because of the woman's behavior.

"What's mine is always something I'm willing to give away; it's never been taken away from me!"

A burst of laughter erupted around them. Wang Jiang, the leader of the group, held a wooden stick in his hand and raised his hand to signal for quiet.

These people are quite obedient; they immediately become quiet when told to.

"You look so delicate and pampered, you must have been spoiled in the past. But my dear lady, in this day and age, money alone isn't enough. How about this, you come with me, and I'll guarantee you a decent living."

Although this was Deng Yin's first time being robbed, he had read many stories about robberies.

"Other robbers make sure their victims are well-fed and clothed, but you only manage to scrape by. Is this how robbers have fallen on hard times?"

"You have a temper, and that's exactly what I like!" Wang Jiang instructed those around him, "Be careful when you make a move, don't hurt their faces."

Fearing Deng would unleash a massacre, the system quickly tried to appease him.

"Just cripple him, don't kill him."

"Cripple them? Aren't these people already brain-dead?"

"..."

Deng Yin gripped the stun gun tightly in his right hand, setting the power to level two.

These people had never seen a stun gun before, but seeing how thin and short it was, they didn't take it seriously.

"What's this? Chopsticks?"

There was a burst of laughter all around, as if they were providing accompaniment for Wang Jiang.

Deng Yin smiled slightly and adjusted the length to level two, at which point the stun gun was one meter long.

Deng Yin also activated an area-of-effect attack, which would attack anyone within two meters of the stun gun.

"Then why don't you come closer to me and see?"

Wang Jiang was definitely not a brainless person to have done this much. Seeing Deng Yin's confident demeanor, he sent his men to investigate first.

His subordinates were rather dim-witted and didn't take Deng Yin seriously at all. They picked up a stick and started hitting Deng Yin.

Before he could even touch Deng Yin, his subordinate convulsed and collapsed to the ground.

Upon seeing this, Wang Jiang quickly stepped back.

"What kind of sorcery did you use?"

"Sorcery? Beware, this is divine punishment!"
