Chapter 43 The Last Stockpiling

Deng Yin did not take a carriage when she went out. After arriving at home and making sure that no one could see her, she took out an electric scooter from her spatial storage.

The journey that would take a horse-drawn carriage three hours at high speed was covered by an electric scooter in less than half an hour. The road was uneven, but the electric scooter did not feel bumpy at all.

One after another, the tableware shops went out of business, until only two remained.

Both of these companies were once giants, but now they seem to be much less successful than before.

Deng Yin first went to the one that was closer to her.

The shop owner was a woman who was a bit older and looked very well-maintained, but the fine lines around her eyes couldn't be smoothed out.

Seeing someone arrive, he came out from behind the cashier. "Sir, what would you like to buy?"

Deng Yin looked through the shelves one by one and said, "Is this all you have?"

Upon hearing this, the shop owner knew it was a big deal. "These are just some of them. If you'd like to see more, please come with me to the storeroom. Besides what's displayed outside, there are some other precious items there, all made of jade."

Deng Yin had never seen tableware made of jade before, and he immediately became interested. "Lead the way."

Once inside the warehouse, Deng Yin realized just how profound the store's heritage was.

There's a much wider variety of items here than what you'd find elsewhere, and the quality is much better. You can tell how good they'll feel just by looking at them, without even touching them.

Seeing Deng's interest piqued, the shop owner explained, "I don't know what's going on lately, but the weather has become increasingly unpredictable. The plants suddenly started attacking people, and we finally managed to get rid of them, but then the weather started acting up again."

"I've lived for over forty years and have never experienced such a cold winter, or rather, such a cold autumn. I've heard that there are still places where fierce winds are raging, and many people have been blown away and are still missing."

"To be honest, business is getting harder and harder for my shop. If you spend more than ten silver coins today, I'm willing to give you a 10% discount!"

It seems this shop owner is savvy. Deng asked, "What if it's more than a hundred?"

The shopkeeper was excited. This person was indeed a fat sheep. He had thought that selling him for ten silver coins would be the limit, but he did not expect the other party to be so generous.

"If it's over a hundred pieces, I'll give you the biggest discount since the store opened—30% off!"

Deng Yin wasn't very satisfied with the discount. There was a layer of dust on the goods here, which meant they hadn't sold for a long time. Nowadays, apart from food and clothing stores, almost everything was on sale.

I spent so much money and only got a 30% discount, that's not enough!

"In that case, I won't bother you."

Seeing that she was about to leave, the shop owner quickly changed his tune, saying, "Are you not satisfied with the discount? Then I'll take a loss and give you a 40% discount. You won't find many shops in the whole city offering this kind of discount."

Seeing that Deng's pace didn't slow down at all, the shop owner gritted his teeth. "50% off! I'll give you 50% off!"

Deng Yin stopped and turned around. "Deal."

The shop owner was a little pained. This shop used to sell rare items. At its peak, a glass pot could sell for 124 silver coins. Now, however, it had to be reduced to a mere 100 silver coins and had to be discounted by half.

Thanks to this damned weather, disasters keep coming one after another. The wealthy people realized something was wrong and started spending their money wisely. Very few people bought anything from their store anymore.

Later, they had no choice but to lower the price, but there were still not many buyers.

Let's offer a 50% discount; at least we can recoup our costs and make a small profit.

Deng Yin originally intended to stock up on goods, and he didn't care what kind they were; he bought all kinds of bowls, chopsticks, and cups.

This shop truly lives up to its reputation as a boutique; it has many items that you can't find anywhere else. Even if they're not actually used, just having them there is enough to please the eye.

I want at least two of each of these: pink, golden, light green, pale purple, sky blue, multicolored, and even glass jars that look black but appear colorful when a candle flickers across them.

I said I was going to buy tableware, but I actually bought a bunch of beautiful but useless things.

With each item she picked out, the shop owner's smile became more genuine, and by the end, she had completely forgotten the heartache she felt when she initially gave her a 50% discount.

A mere 50% discount? Fine, I'll take it.

If we agree to buy something worth more than one hundred silver coins, then we'll buy something worth more than one hundred silver coins. As for how much more, that doesn't matter.

In the end, I spent over 100 coins, seven or eight times the original price, to complete this purchase.

Now, even if there are only ten or so dishes in a meal, or even thirty dishes, you can eat until you're eighty!

After visiting this store, Deng Yin went to another one. The other store had a lot of ordinary items, nothing particularly interesting, so Deng Yin only bought two vases.

As usual, the purchased items were delivered to his home, and in the meantime, Deng Yin continued to buy new things.

Unfortunately, there weren't many shops, and there wasn't much to buy. Most of what I bought were seasonings, rice, flour, and cooking oil.

These items are different from tableware; not only will they not be discounted, but their prices have also increased significantly, with each item basically increasing in price by at least three times.

These items are necessities at all times, and Deng Yin did not hesitate to spend them. There were 13 shops selling these items on the street, and Deng Yin bought one-tenth of the stock from each of them.

This way, I can satisfy my own needs without affecting other people's shopping.

After a busy morning, Deng Yin was a little hungry, so she went home first to tidy up the things in the yard before going out to eat.

The yard is almost full of tableware. There are other things to deliver later, so if we don't pack them up soon, there will be nowhere to put them.

This operation was quite large-scale; few people would buy so much stuff at once. It was only a matter of time before the yard was targeted.

A simple check would reveal that the owner of the yard doesn't live here. So where did that thing go?

I've only ever seen people put things in the yard, never taken things out of the yard.

Or perhaps there's a tunnel in this courtyard.

Or... everything in this courtyard simply vanished into thin air...

In any case, there's no doubt that it attracts other people's attention.

Since Deng Yin dared to do it, he wasn't afraid of others finding out.

The reason she made such a big fuss this time is because she no longer intends to keep the house.

Although the house is large, it is too old-fashioned and has been in disrepair for many years, making many parts unstable. This is one of the reasons why it is sold so cheaply.

Back during the first natural disaster, a mutated plant had created a large hole in the wall. Regardless of whether a tornado would sweep through the house, it would no longer be used as a destination for merchants to transport goods.

We've stocked up on most of the supplies. We bought a ton of seasonings, rice, flour, and cooking oil that we couldn't make ourselves, and we have a huge pile of vegetables in our storage space. We just picked another batch of fresh vegetables last night, and we could eat them all even if we just ate them for 24 hours straight.

She disguised herself this time, so even acquaintances would have a hard time recognizing her.

The next time she came to the city, she appeared in her original form.

There was only one purpose: to take Aunt Wang and her family to her home.

Things haven't reached the point of no return yet. Wang Xi still needs to go to school. We can bring them over when she really can no longer go to school.

It's possible that day will never come.

It's also possible that tomorrow will be that day.
