Chapter 3 The 1st Task

If Deng Yin could see the system, he would find it blushing with anger. "I'm not a 'snail-dwelling system'! My space can grow; it increases by 50 square meters every time I complete a side quest."

There are 20 side quests in total, and reaching the maximum level will give you exactly 1000.

The system continued, "You can also upgrade by spending money; for every 100 gold coins spent, the space will increase by 50 square meters."

! ! ! !

Suppressing his joy, Deng Yinqiang asked, "Is this gold coin made of gold?"

"Of course."

! ! ! !

I originally thought that bag of gold was useless, but I never expected it to be so useful!

Although she was happy inside, she was still dissatisfied on the surface. "I just thought about it, and it still won't work."

"Why is that?" Why are humans so fickle?

Deng Yin looked like he was trying to fool a child, "Think about it, you just said I could take all the supplies I got from here back with me, but the space in my bracelet is only 100 square meters, and it's already full. If I want to take things away, I have to take out the things that were originally in the bracelet. If you do the math, I still won't get anything."

The system thought about it and realized it made a lot of sense. That's why people say humans are smart; they think things through thoroughly.

"You can use my space to store it, and I'll bring it to you when you go back."

Deng Yin sighed and said, "No, my house is very small, only ten square meters, it can't hold all the things in your space."

To get someone to make sacrifices, you can't just play the victim; you also need to praise them. "You're really amazing! The biggest storage space we have is in the supermarket, which is only used by the military, and it can only hold a maximum of 1000 square meters."

The system was practically strutting around with pride; it hadn't expected this human to be so eloquent.

"Oh, this is nothing. To be precise, my space doesn't have a fixed size. The size of the space depends entirely on the host's abilities. Here's what we'll do: since my space will have to be upgraded from scratch after I bind to the next host, I'll give you all the space you upgraded after I unbind from you."

"Really?!" Deng Yin looked genuinely surprised. "Your system is amazing! Don't worry, I'll definitely work hard to collect energy for you, so you can return to your peak and defeat those wicked systems!"

"it is good!"

Both of them envisioned their bright futures, and it felt like the distance between them suddenly shortened.

The system was a bit silly, but it was really good. Deng Yin had enough motivation and was full of enthusiasm for the task he was about to complete.

What was my first side quest?

"Weeding. The area is a circle with the house as the center and a diameter of one kilometer."

"This is not easy to handle." Deng Yin searched the house but couldn't find a sickle.

The only thing we could use to weed was a kitchen knife.

He squatted down and chopped a couple of times, then plopped down on the ground, exhausted.

Deng Yin has very poor physical fitness and never exercises, not because he is lazy, but because he has no place to exercise.

It's dangerous outside, so I spend most of my time at home. The ten-square-meter space is mostly occupied by the bed, cabinets, and toilet, leaving almost no room to move.

Deng Yin was well aware of his own situation. "No, if I keep cutting like this, I won't be able to finish even if I work myself to death."

Although my body is very different now than before, it's not much better. All that extra flesh has gone to my face, and my limbs are thin, making me look weak.

Deng Yin loves reading history books. The books say that people used to use herbicides to kill weeds. If she hadn't come here, she might never have seen grass in her life.

Nothing can be grown on the land of Heze Star. The soil used by the Planting Division to grow vegetables is all artificial soil, and the yield is very low.

Herbicides are difficult to deal with; the formula has long been lost, and even if it hadn't, it's not certain that you can find it here.

"Tongtong, is there a time limit?"

"No, but it'd better be quick."

This is the first time someone has called it "Tongtong". How strange.

It's too late today. I'll go for a walk around the area early tomorrow morning and see how the locals weed.

There's a vegetable garden at home, full of cabbages. They all look ripe, green like jade. Perhaps they were just watered, because there are still water droplets on them.

It looks delicious!

Deng Yin carefully dug up the smallest cabbage, washed it, cut off the root, boiled water in a pot, added the cabbage and a little salt, and a boiled cabbage dish was ready.

There wasn't much firewood at home, so I only put in a small piece when boiling water. The cabbage was almost cooked through, and it tasted a bit crunchy and sweet.

It wasn't particularly delicious, but Deng Yin liked it very much.

She's eaten canned food since she can remember, only indulging once on her 18th birthday when she bought a single tomato. The tomato had a cracked skin, weighed 213g, and she remembered it clearly; the discounted price could have bought 134 cans of tomato.

Although it was the smallest cabbage, it was still bigger than Deng Yin's head, and there wasn't a single piece left.

Touching his round belly, Deng Yin asked the system, "System, can I not go home?"

"why?"

Deng Yin's eyes seemed to sparkle. "The cabbage is so delicious! You know, I've never eaten cabbage before. In my hometown, only rich people can afford it. I have a lot of seeds in my bracelet, enough for me to eat for a lifetime. You know my house is very small, so even with so many seeds, there's no place to plant them. But it's different here."

Deng Yin stood on the bed, her body spread out in a starfish shape. "Look at this house, it's at least 50 square meters, not counting the yard. I even have a vegetable garden. With this kind of life, of course I don't want to go back."

A well-timed display of misery can garner sympathy from others, and the system is no exception.

"Sure, you can stay here or go home after the mission is completed."

Perhaps she was too tired, because she fell asleep just a few minutes after lying down.

When Deng Yin woke up the next day, it was already noon. He ate a simple meal of cabbage, searched the house thoroughly, and finally found only five copper coins. Just as he was about to leave, a woman called out to him.

"Where are you planning to go?" The woman's voice was loud and clear, and Deng Yin felt an inexplicable sense of closeness to her.

Before Deng Yin could answer, the system began to introduce her. "She is Aunt Wang, who often takes care of the original owner. The cabbage you've been eating these past two days was all from seeds given to you by her."

The woman before me was dressed in white, and her eyes seemed to hold a galaxy, shimmering with light.

"She looks like that, and I call her 'auntie'? She doesn't look that much older than me. You're not lying to me, are you?"

Although that's what he told the system, Deng Yin still believed it when facing the woman in front of him. "I was just about to go to your house. There are too many weeds in my yard. I was wondering if you had any ideas."

This was the first time Aunt Wang had seen Deng Yin act so affectionately; she had always seemed too introverted.

"Of course! The farmers' market sells herbicide. It works really well; the grass dies as soon as you spray it. It's also sold at the market, but it's all sold out by now. Are you in a hurry? If you are, Auntie will take you to the farmers' market to buy some right now."

Although Deng Yin had never been to a farmers' market, she figured she definitely wouldn't go in. She only had five copper coins on her, and she didn't want to end up not being able to buy herbicide and having to walk so far.

"Auntie, do you know how much a bottle of herbicide costs?"

"Two copper coins. If you buy three bottles, there's a discount; it only costs two copper coins."

The price is acceptable. If it really doesn't work out, I'll buy three bottles first, and the rest later when I have more money.
