Chapter 112 Buying Cows
The weather was hot, and everyone was wearing very little clothing, with most people having skin exposed.
Although most people are thin, the man selling cattle looks even thinner.
Deng Yin had never bought cattle before and didn't know the price, so he thought he would compare prices from different vendors and ask them one by one.
The first person I asked was a child. He was dressed like most people, in gray clothes without sleeves. His chest was V-shaped, and his exposed skin clung tightly to his bones. You could count the number of bones in his chest just by looking at him, without even touching him.
The little boy was nervous, but he forced himself to act like he was very experienced.
"Ten silver coins."
Deng Yin didn't say anything. She didn't expect that such a big cow would be sold so cheaply, not even as expensive as the two dishes Gao Ruizhe had treated her to today.
Seeing that she didn't speak, the little boy thought she thought it was too expensive, so he quickly added, "If you really want to buy it, I can sell it for 14 silver coins, that's the lowest I can offer."
Before selling the cattle, he had observed how many people sold them, and usually, after saying that sentence, the deal was considered done.
“No need,” Deng Yin said. “Just 15 silver coins.”
Deng Yin pretended to take money out of his sleeve and handed 15 silver coins to the little boy.
He seemed surprised that Deng Yineng was so easy to talk to, and had never experienced anything like this before, so he could only express his gratitude by repeatedly thanking him.
Before he could hand the rope to Deng Yin, he heard another little boy say to Deng Yin, "Don't buy his cow. It's so skinny and he's selling it to you for 15 silver coins. You can look at my cow. It's much fatter than his, and it only costs you 14 silver coins."
The little boy who was speaking was dark-skinned and thin, but at least he didn't look like skin and bones. He even had some nascent muscles in his shoulders.
Deng Yin glanced at the cow behind him; it was indeed much fatter, with at least fifty pounds more meat.
Deng Yin ignored him and took the rope from the little boy's hand.
Seeing that Deng Yin still wanted his cow, the little boy unconsciously raised his voice: "Are you crazy? That cow is so thin, it might die soon, why are you still buying it?"
The little boy looked a bit downcast after hearing what he said, and handed the 15 silver coins to Deng Yin.
"If you want to buy his other end, that's fine too. Here's the money you just gave me."
Deng Yin didn't answer. She was a head taller than the little boy, and with the little boy deliberately looking down, she appeared somewhat condescending.
"Lift your head up. What I buy is my own business, why are you bowing your head?"
The little boy obediently raised his head, but the shame on his face did not diminish at all.
“Because the cow I’m selling to you… is indeed not as big as his, and he’s asking for a lower price, I think you’ll choose him.”
Seeing that he had said that, the little black boy next to him became even more certain that she would buy his cow.
“I don’t care what you think, I care what I think,” Deng Yin said. “That’s my money, and you have no right to make decisions for it. Our transaction is complete, and even if you are the seller, you can’t back out.”
The system clicked its tongue and said, "I've noticed you're really all bark and no bite. You clearly feel sorry for him, which is why you insisted on buying his cow. Why are you saying it so harshly?"
“I’m not pitying him,” Deng Yin said. “I don’t know what I did that you have this misunderstanding about me. I buy cattle to raise for food, not just him, but I buy cattle from other people. I don’t care about the size, I just don’t like other people making decisions for me.”
Although that's what they said, there were 13 cattle sellers on East Street, and Deng Yin bought 12 of them.
She bought everything except what the little black boy was selling.
A person leading 12 cows is conspicuous no matter where he is.
Deng Yin was not one to compromise himself, so he put all 12 cows into his spatial dimension right there in the street.
Since he'd already been recognized, and nobody's perfect, it's normal that he couldn't disguise himself. Deng Yin decided not to bother hiding anything and rode off on his electric scooter.
Wherever she went, people knelt down.
Some people hope the natural disaster will end soon, some pray for wealth, and others pray for their illnesses to disappear immediately.
Deng Yin treated everyone equally.
They ignored them all.
Those who entrust their lives to deities are people who want something for nothing.
Deng Yin will teach them a lesson today: never entrust your future to a charlatan.
Even if that charlatan is very likely a god.
