A post-apocalyptic female soul travels back to the War of Resistance against Japan
Chapter 64 tells Commander Wei about stealing the enemy's grain depot.
When Cheng Ying said that she had gone to the enemy town's large granary to steal grain the night before, Commander Wei's eyes widened, then his mouth opened wide, and he pointed at Cheng Ying with a trembling finger, saying, "What did you say? Say it again!" Commander Wei shouted in disbelief.
Commander Wei pointed at Cheng Ying, then paced back and forth in the room, contemplating the consequences of this incident. Dealing with the higher-ups alone would be a troublesome matter. This Cheng Ying was incredibly bold, and she even succeeded. Sometimes he really had to admire the girl's courage.
After much deliberation, Commander Wei decided he couldn't keep this a secret from his superiors. He quickly called out to one of the guards outside, "Dazhuang, come in!" Just then, a tall figure entered. "Commander, you called me?" Commander Wei pointed to Cheng Ying. "Go take her there now. I told you to find the grain warehouse. Once you're there, you don't need to worry about that. Give Cheng Ying the key." Guard Dazhuang immediately replied, "Yes, Commander."
So Cheng Ying followed Da Zhuang to the warehouse. She understood Commander Wei's meaning: get the grain out first so they could have an explanation when reporting to their superiors. Cheng Ying followed Da Zhuang out of the village, and after several twists and turns in the streets of Rong County, they arrived at an inconspicuous little courtyard. When Da Zhuang unlocked the small door, he led Cheng Ying inside. Wow! The outer door looked small, but the inside was quite spacious. However, she had collected a considerable amount of grain from her spatial storage yesterday, and she also wanted to take some other things out of it!
Cheng Ying looked around, then took the key from Da Zhuang and said this place was suitable. Da Zhuang then turned around and went back, leaving Cheng Ying alone. After seeing Da Zhuang off, Cheng Ying turned around and closed the door, locking it so she could do what she needed to do without worry. Suddenly, someone broke in!
There were at least twenty rooms inside, all of them empty, clearly intended for use as warehouses or granaries. Cheng Ying walked through each room, and with a wave of her hand, the room was instantly filled with grain. She then placed grain and other supplies in each room; there was also cloth, dried meat, and even a considerable amount of cotton.
After Cheng Ying put the supplies she had collected from the Japanese army yesterday into these rooms, she found that a few rooms were still empty. So she organized the food in her spatial storage, filling each room to the brim. Cheng Ying stood in the courtyard, admiring her masterpiece with great satisfaction. Then she went out through the main gate, locked it with a large chain from the outside, and went back inside.
After returning home, Cheng Ying didn't stay idle. She became very familiar with the older women in the village, visiting one house after another, and was so engrossed in her work that she almost caused chaos in Rong County and the enemy's territory.
Even Commander Wei is now discussing this matter with his superiors. When the higher-ups heard that Commander Wei was responsible for burning down the enemy's grain depot, their men were extremely surprised and incredulous. Commander Wei and his thousands of men had all been mobilized to transport the grain; it was impossible for such a depot to be moved silently, and they had burned the Japanese army's grain depot to the ground.
After a moment of silence in the office, one of the captains of the Rong County detachment broke the silence, "Actually, I think this matter is very beneficial to our army, and it is a good thing. It's just that this matter is bigger than we think. What we need to guard against now is the enemy's counterattack." Another regimental commander also said, "Yes, yes, this is a great thing, it's really gratifying! If I had this ability, I would have done it long ago."
When Commander Wei heard the high-ranking officials praising them and showing no sign of blame, he breathed a sigh of relief. Commander Wei also said, "The problem now is how to clean up this mess. We must keep the matter of the grain a secret. We can't let this get out. If the enemy finds out that we were the ones who did it, all their firepower will be directed at us."
After a long period of contemplation, one of the detachment commanders suddenly realized, "Right, Commander Wei, where are all the grain and supplies? Although this is a very satisfying thing to do, it has its pros and cons. Our army must immediately set up fortifications and establish positions in key locations outside the village to prevent enemy attacks." Someone else added, "And we must send people to secretly guard the granary."
After discussing the matter, the leaders issued a series of orders, requiring them to complete all defensive work before the enemy could discover them.
