A post-apocalyptic female soul travels back to the War of Resistance against Japan

Cheng Ying saw that the group of people started prying the bricks at the back of the house. There were two people prying the bricks, while the other dozen or so people were either looking around, keeping watch, or helping the two people to gently move the bricks they had pried off to the side.

Cheng Ying and Captain Sun quietly surrounded the dozen or so men while they weren't looking. Just then, Captain Sun gave Cheng Ying a wink, and Cheng Ying immediately said, "What are you doing? Don't move! Stand there and don't move!" The men realized they'd been exposed. Looking around, they saw many soldiers pointing their guns at them. One of them said, "What's going on? We were so well hidden, how did they spot us? Now there's only one way out. Get your guns out and shoot! Try to get as many of them to escape!" The other men gritted their teeth and said, "Yes, sir!" They each found cover and opened fire.

Cheng Ying's side wasn't going to be outdone either. With superior numbers, they all opened fire and returned fire. Since they outnumbered their opponents, the enemy was quickly routed, several dead, some retreating while fighting. Cheng Ying noticed one of the men who had been observing the terrain. She deliberately let him go, hoping to catch him later and see if he had any contacts. Cheng Ying, also fighting her way back, figured things wouldn't change much. With so many of her men, dealing with a few shouldn't be a problem. So she followed the fleeing man.

Cheng Ying followed this man, turning left and right in circles several times. By this time, Cheng Ying had become more cunning; she quickly concealed herself and continued to follow him. No matter which way he went, Cheng Ying could keep up. After walking a considerable distance, the man must have thought he had escaped, because he stopped, panting heavily.

The man rested while observing his surroundings. Seeing no movement, he felt he had rested enough and stood up to head out of the city. As he neared the city gate, he suddenly turned a corner and walked to a secluded spot. There, he crouched down and crawled out through a hole. Cheng Ying immediately understood – this was their secret exit. To catch up, Cheng Ying quickly arrived at the same spot. She glanced at the hole, worried that the man might have set traps or been watching outside, and falling into a trap would be troublesome.

Cheng Ying thought for a moment, took a running start, and, imitating the man, pushed off the wall a few times to get onto it. Of course, with Cheng Ying's special abilities, this was no problem at all, even though the wall was much higher than usual. After Cheng Ying jumped down the wall, she saw the man's back and chased after him without hesitation.

Cheng Ying followed the man for another two or three miles until they reached a village. Cheng Ying knew this village was called Xinghua Village. Cheng Ying slowed her pace and quietly followed behind the man. After entering the village, the man went straight to a dilapidated thatched hut. Cheng Ying hid at a distance, observing the movements around the hut.

A moment later, another man came out of the hut and exchanged a few words with the first man. Then, the two went inside together and closed the door.

Cheng Ying decided to approach the hut and eavesdrop on their conversation. She cautiously approached the hut, remaining hidden just in case. Cheng Ying pressed her ear against the door, trying to hear the sounds inside.

Inside, the voices of two men talking could be heard. The man Cheng Ying was following said to the other man, "The mission failed. I don't know how many of the men we brought will come out alive." The other man angrily replied, "Damn it, you can't even handle something this simple. What use are you guys?" The man paced back and forth in the room a few times, then suddenly stared at the man he was following. "No, we have to retreat now. We all have to get out of here. We can't let them catch us and make us reveal our location."

So the two of them started packing, taking only some personal belongings before leaving. Cheng Ying thought for a moment, deciding she had to continue following them to see where they would go and whether they had other contact points, thinking it best to take them down in one fell swoop.
