Cheng Ying led her team in making preparations for the battle, while in the Japanese army camp, several officers were extremely anxious.

"What do we do? We've run out of strategic resources. How are we supposed to fight this war?"

At this point, an officer suggested, "Is it too late to seek outside support now?"

Another officer said, "I just asked them, but they won't arrive until eight or nine o'clock after dawn."

"That's alright. As long as we hold on until reinforcements arrive, we'll be saved. Hopefully, nothing else will go wrong!"

But things didn't go as they expected. A little while later, a soldier came in and reported, "Reporting to the general, an unidentified force has been discovered outside the city and is attacking us."

Everyone present was startled. The general asked, "How many of them are there?"

They can't afford any more setbacks right now!

The soldier said, "They don't have many men, less than a hundred, but their firepower is fierce. Our men are almost at their breaking point."

The general immediately ordered, "Have all armed men block the area. Hold on! Our reinforcements will arrive soon."

The soldier immediately replied, "Yes, sir!"

After the soldiers left, the general's hands trembled uncontrollably. He knew that they had too few weapons and could not withstand the attack.

Even though they outnumbered him, their firepower was overwhelming! No, he had to find a way; he couldn't just wait to die like this…

Once the general had figured it out, he immediately called out to the soldiers outside, "Someone come here!"

A moment later, a soldier guarding the gate came in. "General, what are your orders?"

The Japanese general ordered, "Immediately assemble all soldiers and retreat to the back door."

The other officers, though reluctant to leave, had no choice but to become like stray dogs since they were unarmed.

Moreover, those soldiers with weapons were there to buy them a final chance.

Soon the troops were assembled, and the general, along with several officers, came out of the house. They had originally wanted to take some things with them, but everything in the military camp had been looted, so they could only take some water with them.

Even the trucks were not many left behind, but some cavalrymen had horses and could travel a distance quickly.

Thus, the Japanese general led his more than 20,000 soldiers and fled in panic towards the back gate.

He actually had enough men to fight to the death, but he knew that no matter how many men he had, he couldn't beat their guns and cannons. It was wise of him to avoid direct confrontation.

Cheng Ying and her comrades, who were fighting the Japanese army at the city gate, were unaware of this.

Who knew the Japanese army would be so cowardly? They fled without a fight before their planes even arrived.

After they drove back the last Japanese soldiers, they opened the city gates and began their pursuit, only to discover something was amiss: the city was unusually quiet.

Cheng Ying immediately sensed that something was wrong. When they arrived at the Japanese military camp, they found it completely empty.

Zhang Liu led his men around the military camp but found no trace of the Japanese soldiers. "Comrade Cheng, there's no one left in the camp. They may have escaped."

Cheng Ying was also very surprised. She had fought against the Japanese army many times before, but she had never encountered such a situation where they fled without fighting.

It was also her carelessness that led her to not have anyone guard the back door. She thought they were outnumbered, but she didn't expect that the enemy could not even hold them off for an hour before they escaped with their men.

Cheng Ying and her group are now in a dilemma. If they pursue, they are too few in number; if they don't pursue, they are unwilling to let so many Japanese soldiers go!

It seems they'll have to make other plans. "Zhang Liu, you take a few men and pursue the Japanese army, but don't engage them head-on. Just follow them from behind and see where they go."

Zhang Liu immediately replied, "Yes!"

After Zhang Liu led a few men out to pursue the Japanese army, Cheng Ying immediately picked up her communicator and sent a message to Commander Liu. The message was answered after two rings: "Cheng Ying, what's wrong? We'll be there soon. You must hold on. If you can't hold out, retreat."

Hearing Commander Liu's anxious words, Cheng Ying couldn't help but smile. "Commander, you don't need to worry, the battle is over!"

Commander Liu exclaimed in shock, "What? What happened? How could it be over so quickly?"

Commander Liu's series of questions left Cheng Ying unsure where to begin.

A few minutes later, Cheng Ying finally explained, "That's how it is, Commander. We hadn't even fought much before they slipped away through the back door. It's so frustrating! Commander, did we make a mistake? We shouldn't have attacked them so early!"

After a moment of silence, Commander Liu said, "There's no right or wrong. The best time to attack them was back then. Who knew they'd be such cowards, turning into stray dogs? Alright, we're almost there. Let's discuss what to do when we get there!"

Cheng Ying: "Okay!"
