A post-apocalyptic female soul travels back to the War of Resistance against Japan

Chapter 100: What to do when there are too many supplies and the warehouse is too small?

The day after Cheng Ying and Captain Zhang returned, the weather was sunny. After breakfast, Cheng Ying decided to put the supplies in the warehouse so that Captain Zhang and the others could make arrangements more quickly. She went to the office, asked Captain Zhang and the others for the warehouse key, and then went there.

Upon arriving at the warehouse, she found that there was still some grain left. She sorted and put the supplies she had taken from the enemy into the warehouse, only to discover that it was still a bit small and couldn't hold everything. The warehouse was already full of rice, flour, cooking oil, clothing, shoes, and other daily necessities. There was still room for medical supplies and weapons and ammunition. What was she going to do?

It seemed they had no choice but to leave them in the yard for now. They needed to immediately notify Captain Zhang and the others to bring all the important weapons, ammunition, and medical supplies back to the base; leaving them in the yard wouldn't do. So Cheng Ying quickly locked the door and returned to the base.

When Cheng Ying returned to the base and told Captain Zhang about the situation, both Captain Zhang and Regiment Commander Wei were very surprised. Captain Zhang immediately said, "We must arrange a place to store those supplies as soon as possible." Regiment Commander Wei then said, "There is another warehouse, but it also contains some military supplies. However, not much. It should be suitable to use that warehouse to store the weapons and explosives." Captain Zhang and Cheng Ying were quite interested. What kind of place?

Commander Wei said, "This place used to be the mansion of a wealthy landlord who kept several concubines. Now, because of the war, no one lives there anymore. Come on, I'll take you to see it!" Captain Zhang said, "Okay, let's go now. This matter must be settled immediately."

So the group headed towards the mansion, which was located on a street not far from the former warehouse. Facing them was a large gate flanked by two large stone lions. Inside was a reception hall. It was a three-courtyard complex. The first courtyard wasn't suitable, but the second was alright—more secluded and spacious. After looking around, they decided this place was acceptable.

When they reached the last courtyard, it became a bit more secluded. It was clearly servants' quarters, with rooms on both sides resembling warehouses. Cheng Ying thought that the second and third courtyards could both be used to store things, but in terms of security, the second courtyard was safer. So Captain Zhang decided to put the supplies in the second courtyard first, and if there was still no room, they would put them in the third courtyard.

Captain Zhang immediately sent men to guard the warehouse, planning to move the goods later that night. Once everything was arranged, Captain Zhang and Cheng Ying left the mansion, intending to return to their base to await the night. However, shortly after they left, a group of mysterious figures quietly infiltrated the mansion. These people moved swiftly and silently into each room, seemingly searching for something.

It turned out they were spies sent by hostile forces who had learned that the anti-Japanese forces were going to store supplies and had come specifically to investigate. They carefully searched every corner, trying to find the exact location of the supplies.

Meanwhile, Captain Zhang and Cheng Ying were unaware of the approaching danger. They anxiously awaited nightfall at their base. Even during dinner, Captain Zhang and the others were distracted, while Cheng Ying seemed carefree. It wasn't that Cheng Ying didn't care about the supplies; she just felt that storing them anywhere else was safest than in her personal storage space. However, her space was her last resort and couldn't be exposed, so she could only temporarily store it in the warehouse of the mansion.

Night fell, and all was quiet. Most people had turned off their lights and were resting. It was around 9 PM. Captain Zhang said, "Commander Wei, Comrade Cheng, do you think it's feasible to transport the supplies now?" Commander Wei replied, "Just to be on the safe side, let's wait a bit longer!" Cheng Ying said indifferently, "I have no objections. I'll listen to Captain Zhang and Commander Wei."

Captain Zhang said seriously, "This batch of supplies is too important. Any organization would be envious if they saw it, so we must be extremely careful." Cheng Ying thought for a moment and said, "Captain Zhang, Commander Wei, if you want to trust me, I have a very safe place. I guarantee that the place is safe and no one knows about it. Our place seems very safe, but you all know that there are spies from various forces. None of us can guarantee that we don't have any here!"

Captain Zhang and Regiment Commander Wei exchanged glances and nodded. Finally, Captain Zhang said on behalf of the group, "Comrade Cheng Ying, even if we don't trust anyone else, we'll trust you. Actually, I hesitated from the beginning. There are definitely quite a few informants and spies from various organizations here; we just haven't discovered them yet. If it were just some daily necessities, it would be fine, but weapons, ammunition, and medical supplies are very important military supplies, so we have to be cautious!"

Captain Zhang paced back and forth several times before finally making up his mind. He looked seriously at Commander Wei and Cheng Ying and said, "Let's let Comrade Cheng Ying arrange the supplies. I always feel unsafe here, and I don't feel at ease no matter where we put them. But as Comrade Cheng Ying said, if she arranges them, no one else will know where they are. If we need them, we can put them in the small warehouse and take only what we need. This will be much safer than the initial arrangement." Even Commander Wei nodded and looked at Cheng Ying together.

In fact, this trip increased Captain Zhang's trust in Cheng Ying even more. Of course, Commander Wei felt the same way; they both believed that Comrade Cheng Ying would keep the supplies safe in a secure place. Cheng Ying was deeply moved by the trust Captain Zhang and Commander Wei placed in her.

So Cheng Ying promised them, "Okay, since you trust me so much, I will definitely arrange the supplies well!"
