Chapter 72 Midnight Meeting (Part 1)

"Zheng!"

Cain raised his sword to block Zhong Kui, who was about to grab him, and the two were locked in a stalemate.

"The big clean-up begins!" A voice like that of a demon came from Zhong Kui, whose chest suddenly twisted and a dark blue hole began to form.

This can't go on!

Cain felt a powerful attraction emanating from him, and he became anxious, racking his brains for a solution.

Zhong Kui gripped Cain's sword tightly with one hand and used his sickle to slash at Cain's head with the other, but Cain blocked it. If this continued, Cain would be "eaten" by the hole that was slowly forming on Zhong Kui's chest.

"Damn it, why am I so unlucky!" Cain grumbled, using all his strength to shake off Zhong Kui's scythe hook. Taking advantage of that moment, he launched his attack—

"We have no choice but to take a gamble."

With a fierce determination, Cain attached a portion of his demonic armor to his arm and plunged it into the still incomplete black hole formed by Zhong Kui.

A twisting sensation enveloped his arm, as if thousands of swords were dancing wildly, colliding with the hard, demonic armor, sparks flew, and dull "clanging" sounds rang out.

"Uh! Uh-uh-uh—" Zhong Kui suddenly stopped, making a stammering sound.

It trembled all over, and the eerie blue flames on its body flickered.

"Not good!" Upon seeing this familiar scene, Cain was immediately startled. He quickly sheathed his sword and dodged to the side.

"boom!"

Zhong Kui's massive body suddenly exploded, followed by a huge explosion that sent Cain flying.

"Phew, luckily I reacted quickly enough, otherwise I would have been injured by his self-destruction." Cain rolled over and landed steadily, letting out a breath of relief.

Fragments of armor were scattered haphazardly on the ground, and the black charred marks indicated the violent explosion that had just taken place.

"I have to get out of here quickly, or he'll come back to life. I'm not here to fight." Cain didn't linger on the explosion site, quickly got up and left, heading towards the location indicated on the note.

Little did anyone know that a few minutes after Cain left, the scattered armor fragments on the ground suddenly trembled, as if something was pulling them, and they began to float slowly. The fragments began to gather together and recombine.

The azure flames once again filled the armor, and Zhong Kui came back to life.

"Maintain order."

Its two will-o'-the-wisps looked around, seemingly finding nothing. It began to move slowly, drifting in and out of sight, patrolling Chang'an City.

He seemed to have completely forgotten about the conflict with Cain, and held no grudge against Cain. As if nothing had happened, he continued to dutifully wander around every corner of Chang'an.

"Was that Zhong Kui, the demonic mechanism guarding the Gate of Chang'an? It's truly amazing. It can be restored perfectly. This is something that current technology cannot do. Moreover, I felt a power that could devour everything from that twisted hole. No wonder there is a curfew. Does Zhong Kui patrol like this every day, as if he is guarding something, day after day? I wonder how long he has been doing this. Sure enough, Chang'an hides secrets."

Not long after Zhong Kui left, a blond young man emerged from a dark corner. It was Marco Polo. He stared in the direction Zhong Kui had gone.

"And that white-haired swordsman is really impressive. He managed to escape Zhong Kui's capture. He's not to be underestimated. Plus, he has a Western face. Maybe I can win him over and get a great help. But why is he wandering around the streets in the middle of the night? He seems to be going somewhere. It's a pity I didn't follow him."

Marco Polo recalled the battle he had just witnessed.

"Moreover, judging from the white-haired swordsman's reaction when Zhong Kui was about to explode, he seemed to know a lot about Zhong Kui's self-destruction ability. It seems that he knows some inside information. Of course, we cannot rule out the factor that his intuition is very sharp, but we cannot let it go. Hmm, I have to write it down."

"By the way, what is that cube? I saw it merge into Zhong Kui's body. Is it some kind of energy core?" Marco Polo rested his chin on his hand, deep in thought.

"Father, where are your footprints now? I feel that there is no road left in Chang'an. Is this your final destination?" Marco Polo, unable to think of anything, looked at the bright moon in the sky and said in a low voice.

"Chang'an City, how many secrets are you still hiding?"

……

"Finally here." Cain looked at the courtyard indicated by the note. After walking through so many streets, he had finally arrived at the meeting place.

This courtyard is the kind of residential courtyard that can be seen everywhere in Chang'an. Now that there is a curfew, every household should turn off their lights, but this one is brightly lit, like a star in the darkness.

"Cain, why are you so slow? We've all been waiting for you." Gongsun Li poked her head out as soon as she reached the door.

"Sorry, I ran into some things on the way and was delayed a bit." Cain scratched his head.

"Alright, come in quickly." Gongsun Li opened the door and welcomed Cain in.

"Everyone, this is our newest member," Gongsun Li said to the people in the courtyard.

"Ahem, my name is Cain, nice to meet you," Cain said, feigning seriousness.

They were all familiar people, and three of them were already acquainted. Cain knew them, but they didn't know Cain.

"Hey, Cain, you've finally arrived." Pei Qinhu, who was leaning against the tree, jumped down, laughed, walked over to Cain, and patted him on the shoulder.

Everyone had arrived, and Yao Tian and the other four were all looking at Cain.

"Hello, I am Yang Yuhuan," Yang Yuhuan said first, sipping her tea.

"Even though you already know, let me introduce myself again. I'm Gongsun Li, you can call me Ali." Gongsun Li said cheerfully.

“Me too, I’m Pei Qinhu.” Pei Qinhu grinned.

"Little Xing'er, say hello quickly." Gongsun Li patted the head of the boy who was deep in thought about the chess game.

"Oh." Young Yi Xing looked up as if waking from a dream. "Hello, Cain, I am Yi Xing."

"I am Ming Shiyin, the leader of Yaotian. Welcome to join our Yaotian organization, Cain, a man who has left his homeland." The alluring sorcerer Ming Shiyin, who was fiddling with a peony, smiled.

"Hello everyone, I'm Cain, and it's an honor to join Yaotian." Cain looked at everyone.

Then, Cain looked intently at Ming Shiyin:

"So you're the leader of Yaotian. It's a pleasure to meet you. I never imagined that Ming Shiyin, the Empress's favorite, would be the leader of this mysterious organization. So, what are we going to do here tonight?"

"We're not going to do anything special, just let you get to know the members of our Yaotian team and work out with you, the newcomer, a bit."

"I see. I'm a little curious, how did you know me?"
