Chapter 32 Falling into the Snowy Region
They had finally fallen into the snowy wilderness. The moment he opened his eyes, Murong Junlan's heart shifted from excitement to coldness and worry. More than a month had passed; was his Yan'er still alive in this icy wasteland? His heart pounded in his chest. Looking at the vast expanse of white, he didn't know how to begin his search.
Murong Junlan used the desert lightness skill he had recently learned to search the snowfield. He didn't find anyone, but he caught a few snow rabbits, roasted them, and carried them with him as he continued his search...
As for Luo Rina, after she jumped into the abyss, she sank deeper and deeper, as if it were a bottomless pit. If she hadn't seen Murong Junlan jump in front of her, she would never have jumped down. She couldn't understand why, ever since she met Murong Junlan, she had been bewitched. To this day, she still didn't know Murong Junlan's name or where he was from. However, her intuition told her that Murong Junlan was no ordinary person.
"Thump." Her head throbbed slightly from the fall. Huh? Why is it so cold? Lorina opened her eyes and saw a world of ice and snow? What happened? Where did she end up? Let me think... Could it be Mount El? Lorina knew of Mount El; years ago, she had challenged a nomadic Hun and passed by it, but hadn't gone in. Lorina had practiced martial arts since childhood, and she was used to countless solo survival experiences. She immediately channeled her inner energy to ward off the cold, and then began searching for Murong Junlan in the snow…
As for the woman, she had been trapped in the snowy region for over a month and was becoming more and more accustomed to life in the snow. She even found this kind of life so comfortable, simple, and fulfilling that she had completely forgotten her original purpose for crossing over. Sometimes, living simply is a kind of happiness.
For more than a month, the woman has been hunting in the mountains with the little boy Xiong Bao every day. She has also learned a lot of skills from the little boy, such as running in the snow, climbing trees, and shooting slingshots. In short, even if she were thrown into the snow now, she would not be eaten by wolves or starve to death.
That morning, after she and the little boy finished eating bear milk, they went hunting again. It seemed like the animals weren't fully awake; they didn't encounter a single animal after walking for most of the day.
"Why can't we find a single animal today?" the woman asked the little boy in front of her.
“I also think something’s not right.” The little boy picked up a burnt twig, sniffed it, and said, “Sister, look? It looks like someone came by and grilled some meat. Mmm, it smells so good.”
"Xiong Bao, you live here, have you seen anyone else?" The woman touched the burnt wooden stick with her hand.
"Never, it's just me, Big Bear, and Little Bear." The little boy blinked. "Sister, do you think the people who come here might be bad guys?"
"It's not necessarily true, but we should be prepared and try not to let him find out about us."
"I understand. If we encounter bad guys, we'll kill them like wolves." The little boy brandished the spear in his hand.
“You look like a little wolf to me now. Ha…” The two continued chasing and fighting while searching for prey.
After rounding the bend in the mountain pass, the snow on the mountain was even thicker. The little boy noticed a line of footprints stretching into the distance. He was about to tell the woman to follow them when he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
"What's the matter?"
"Sister, you climb the tree first, there's a wolf ahead." The little boy picked up the spear and stared intently ahead.
"If we're going to go, we'll go together. If you don't go, I won't go either." Although the woman believed in the little boy's abilities, she couldn't let him take the risk alone.
"Danger under the tree. Quick, it's coming!" The little boy, like a grown-up, stood protectively in front of the woman, and she felt a warm current flow through her heart. The woman quickly climbed the tree, and the little boy followed. He gave the woman the spear and took out his small bow and arrows to prepare for battle.
The wolf howled under the tree for a while, then stood on its two front legs, preparing to leap up. Suddenly, a person tumbled down the hillside with a thud. The wolf sniffed the air, seemingly recognizing the human, then abandoned the two people in the tree and ran towards the person who had rolled down.
The person who had tumbled down the hillside scrambled to their feet and cursed, "What damn vines! They tripped me up and made me fall flat on my face!" Lorina looked up and met the wolf's gaze. A wolf? Before Lorina's panic could even show, her long whip was already in her hand. The wolf was no pushover either; it bared its teeth and pounced on the person who claimed to be a princess. The two fought for a long time, neither gaining the upper hand.
Just then, the howling of wolves came from afar, sounding like a male wolf calling to a female wolf, both mournful and heart-wrenching. The woman and the little boy looked into the distance and saw another wolf rushing towards them.
"The male wolf is coming," the little boy said, shifting his stance to warn the woman.
"Isn't that woman who rolled down in danger?" the woman asked worriedly.
"So, before the male wolf arrives, we must scare away or defeat the female wolf, ideally making her back down, so that it's better for both of us." As he spoke, the little boy had already drawn his bow fully, with an arrow nocked.
"Sister, get out of the way!" the little boy shouted to Luo Rina, and then with a "whoosh," an arrow was released from the bow.
Lorina looked in the direction of the sound and saw that the one shooting the arrow was a little boy. She thought to herself, "I don't owe you any favors." So she swung her whip and actually flung away the arrow that was aimed at the wolf.
"You?" The little boy was a bit angry, turning his head away and refusing to look at Lorina. Just then, the male wolf arrived, and the two wolves surrounded Lorina and attacked her simultaneously. As the battle progressed, Lorina gradually lost ground.
"She's in danger, are you going to save her?" The woman gently tapped the little boy's arm.
"I'm not going." The little boy pouted, playing with the bow and arrow in his hand.
“Fine, if you won’t go, I will.” The woman said, taking the spear and climbing down from the tree.
"Don't move, I'll go, okay?" The little boy looked reluctant. "We agreed that we'd only help her this time."
"Alright, you stingy little thing." The woman handed the spear to the little boy. "Be careful, if you can't win, run away."
"Don't worry, I'm here. We'll have roasted wolf meat again today." After saying that, the little boy quickly climbed down the tree and joined the wolves in their fight.
Lorina was fighting two wolves alone and was being pushed back one after another. When the little boy joined in, she immediately felt half relieved. At this time, she dared not underestimate her opponent as before, and she would occasionally free her hands to help the little boy out of trouble.
The woman, bored watching the wolf fight from a tree, decided to seize the opportunity to deliver a fatal arrow. Her chance finally arrived. She saw the little boy feint an attack, then turn and run. So, she drew her bow and shot an arrow at the wolf.
The little boy waited for the wolf to charge, intending to give it a good stab, but he waited and waited and the wolf didn't appear, which was very unlike a wolf. He turned around and, what?! The wolf had abandoned him and was now menacingly circling the woman's tree, howling. Then, he saw the arrow stuck in the wolf's rear end, and the little boy immediately understood. It turned out that the woman's clumsy archery skills had offended the wolf's rear end.
Enraged by the pain, the wolf circled the tree, its sharp claws gleaming as it tried to climb. Seeing this, the little boy swung his spear without hesitation. Provoked, the wolf went berserk, and the little boy gradually lost ground.
"Awooo—" Suddenly, another shocking cry came from afar, no, it was a chorus of shocking cries.
"Oh no! The wolves are coming!" the woman cried out.
"Climb the tree!" Lorina commanded the boy with a flick of her whip.
"No!" Knowing what a fierce battle lay ahead, the boy refused Lorina without hesitation.
Lorina was angry. She lashed out with her whip, deflecting the wolf's attack, and teleported to the little boy's side. She grabbed him and threw him into a tree. "Get up there!"
"Xiong Bao, come up here quickly," the woman urged from above. The little boy, however, did a somersault, touched the ground with his spear, and landed back on the ground.
"You're asking for it." Ignoring the little boy, Lorina had no choice but to lure the two wolves onto herself.
"Awooo—" The wolf pack finally arrived. A dozen tall, fierce wolves swooped down on them. Because of the smell of blood in front of them, the wolves came at them with bestial ferocity and speed. Their overwhelming momentum put the two people under the tree in a desperate situation.
Suddenly, a wolf pounced on the little boy from the side while he was caught off guard. At that moment, the little boy was fighting with another wolf in front of him. In the nick of time, the woman wanted to shoot an arrow, but it was too late. In a panic, she shouted, "Bear, get out of the way!" and with a powerful leap, she pounced down from the tree towards the wolf.
"You're courting death." Luo Rina gave her a helpless look and had no choice but to swing her whip to slow the woman's fall. She could tell the woman didn't know martial arts and was worried that she might break an arm or a leg. She would have to take care of her, and things were already chaotic enough.
The wolf that had attacked the little boy was startled by the sudden appearance of the large creature. It hesitated for a moment, then immediately turned to attack the woman. The little boy panicked and charged forward with his spear.
Seeing this, Lorina thought, "This won't do. If we keep fighting like this, the wolves will exploit all their weaknesses." So she shouted to the other two, "Quick, the three of you, stick together!" The three of them stood shoulder to shoulder, back to back, facing outwards. Lorina swept her whip 360 degrees, instantly creating a three-meter protective circle in front of them. The wolves stood outside the circle, watching them intently, ready to pounce.
Under the protection of the safety barrier, the woman finally had a chance to shoot an arrow. She drew her bow, pulled it taut, and fired at the wolf pack. With a "thud," she struck one of the wolf's eyes.
"Sister, you're amazing!" the little boy exclaimed, giving the woman a loud thumbs-up.
At this moment, the wolf that had been shot was completely enraged and charged forward like a madman, followed by the rest of the pack. "Everyone, be careful!" Lorina was the first to brandish her long whip, and a new round of fighting began.
