Chapter 68 A Gift of Jasmine
After a fourteen-hour journey, Jiang Yi set foot on Xi'an soil, the air thick with a familiar scent. Recalling her secret return to China a year ago felt like only yesterday.
Youming pushed Jiang Yi out of the airport, where Chi Ruiche, who had been waiting at the exit, was holding a bouquet of flowers. Standing out from the crowd, his tall figure was particularly noticeable; even in a casual white T-shirt, he exuded a unique elegance.
Because of her foot injury, Jiang Yi wore a white silk dress with a square neck and spaghetti straps. Her neck was long and slender, her collarbone was clearly visible, her skin was fair, and her long, soft, black hair was parted in the middle and went past her shoulders. Her beautiful face and gentle smile gave her an ethereal quality.
Chi Ruiche spotted Jiang Yi in the crowd at a glance, jogged over, and crouched down to look her in the eye. Beneath her mask was a conspicuous patch of gauze, and her slender ankles were wrapped in elastic bandages; she was barely wearing slippers. He dressed her in a pre-prepared coat and covered her with a thin blanket.
"Che, it's over 30 degrees Celsius in Xijing today, is it necessary to wear so much?" Jiang Yi instinctively wanted to tear off his coat.
"Cold starts from the feet." Xi'an and New Zealand have different seasons, and the sudden change in temperature makes it easy to catch a cold. Chi Ruiche put his arm around her hand and placed the bouquet in her hand.
"Che, are these flowers for me?" Jiang Yi's tone was somewhat ingratiating and coquettish. Eleven white roses were interspersed with white jasmine flowers, and the green leaves made the bouquet less monotonous. The bouquet was wrapped in white gauze, and the fragrance of jasmine wafted through the air.
Jiang Yi pouted her lips slightly, her eyes sparkling like stars, and said sweetly, "The meaning of jasmine flowers: I give you jasmine, wishing you will never leave."
Chi Ruiche's gaze never left her, his eyes filled with undisguised doting affection. He gently stroked her face, his tone tinged with helplessness: "Does it hurt?"
"It doesn't hurt, it's just a scrape. Hospitals always like to bandage wounds in an exaggerated way." Jiang Yi's lips curved into a beautiful arc, her beautiful crescent-shaped eyes curved and filled with laughter: "Che, hug me." She opened her arms to welcome his embrace.
"Can I hug you? Do you have any other injuries?" Chi Ruiche asked cautiously. He had originally wanted to be stern with her and make her hide her injury from him, but faced with her like this, he felt no anger at all, only heartache.
"Che, I'm so hungry. Do you want me to walk to the car myself?" Jiang Yi blinked her eyes, looking like an innocent little rabbit, which was very endearing.
Chi Ruiche lowered his gaze, his strong arms sweeping her up gently as if afraid of hurting her, and he said in a low, husky voice, "I give up." Each word that came out of his thin lips carried an indescribable allure.
Uncle Youming walked beside them. People hurrying by glanced at them out of the corner of their eyes. The handsome man and beautiful woman were truly eye-catching. Girls passing by cast envious glances at the petite figure in the boy's arms.
Youming sat in the passenger seat, not daring to utter a sound. The tense atmosphere inside the car was quite noticeable. He was unsure if Chi Ruiche was about to question him.
"What do you want to eat?" Chi Ruiche took off his mask, revealing gauze on his forehead and under his eyes. The wound on his forehead was protruding and probably swollen; he wondered if it had become infected.
"I want to eat some barbecue skewers." Jiang Yi felt that she needed some strongly flavored food to fill her stomach.
“No, you can only eat light food now.” Chi Ruiche glanced at her sideways.
"Then why did you ask?" Jiang Yi muttered in dissatisfaction.
"Let's go to the hospital first." Chi Ruiche was more concerned about her health now, and he wouldn't feel at ease without a definite answer.
"Che, I'm hungry. Don't make a fuss. My wound has been treated." Jiang Yi patted himself to show that he was fine.
"I'm worried." A hint of disappointment flickered in his eyes; he was afraid his little friend was hiding his wounds from him.
"Then you have to let me eat something, right?" Jiang Yi didn't argue; he was just happy to be at ease.
"I have already told them to deliver, so I can eat and get checked at the hospital."
When Chi Ruiche arrived at the hospital, he arranged for Jiang Yi to undergo a full-body examination. Jiang Yi took out the diagnosis report from New Zealand, and the doctor said anxiously, "I suggest doing two CT scans in one day. Let's take a picture. There are no symptoms of vomiting or dizziness at the moment. Continue to observe. Mild concussions can heal on their own. Get plenty of rest."
"See? I'm fine." Jiang Yi was fed a bite of food by Chi Ruiche, and her speech was slurred. She only had a foot injury, but he wouldn't let her eat by herself.
Under Chi Ruiche's watchful eye, as the dressing was changed and a new gauze was applied, and iodine was wiped on, Jiang Yi gasped. Fortunately, the wound wasn't deep and scabbed over in a few days.
"Be gentle." Chi Ruiche noticed Jiang Yi's expression and instructed the nurse to move slowly.
"Shall I take you back to the old house?" Chi Ruiche asked the doctor repeatedly, and his furrowed brows relaxed slightly as he confirmed that his ankle would recover in three to four weeks.
“I didn’t tell Grandpa. I told him I still had classes to finish, and he would worry if I went back like this.” Last time Jiang Yi had a cold, Grandpa made countless calls, “Book me a hotel. I’ll go home after my foot heals.”
"Come home with me, I'll take care of you." Chi Ruiche carried her away before she could refuse.
Jiang leaned his head against the chest, like a kitten stealing a fish, and smiled mischievously: "Then I'll have to trouble you, brother."
"How did you fall?" Chi Ruiche finally couldn't help but ask. "Youming, tell me."
"Miss Jiang slipped on her high heels and fell down the hospital stairs." Jiang Yi had already gotten the information out of him, and this was the truth; the only thing they were hiding was the amount of CCTV footage. Youming's eyes darted away, too guilty to look Chi Ruiche in the eye.
"From now on, you're not allowed to wear high heels alone." Chi Ruiche's lips curled into a smirk, and Jiang Yi shrank back, not daring to misbehave. It felt like being scolded by a parent for doing something wrong.
"Yes." Jiang Yi playfully stuck out her tongue.
