Chapter 30 Jiang Xue
"They have such a good relationship." Wang Ruozhi looked at Chi Ruiche and Jiang Yi and said softly, "When I was little, I also wished I had an older brother."
"Xiao Meng, is the cake cut yet?" Grandpa Jiang glanced at Aunt Meng.
"I'll go check." Aunt Meng immediately turned and went to the kitchen, where the kitchen helper had already cut the cake.
Aunt Meng arranged for two maids to clean up the bone plate, replace it with a new one, and then place it on a cake plate.
Grandpa Jiang doesn't really like sweets, but since Xiao Yi made them himself, he eagerly tried them, and the others followed suit.
"Xiao Yi, it tastes great." Girls have no resistance to desserts, and Wang Ruozhi thought it was very good, so she gave Jiang Yi a thumbs up.
Jiang Yi smiled as she observed their expressions. She had been a little worried about the taste because she hadn't chosen the shop's semi-finished product. But now it seemed her worries were unfounded.
"Aunt Meng, get me another one." Seeing that Wang Ruozhi liked it very much, Cui Xiuling asked Aunt Meng to get her another one.
Wang Ruozhi was a little embarrassed, "Auntie, I've already eaten a lot."
"Being able to eat is a blessing. Look how thin you are." Ruan He also noticed Wang Ruozhi's good appetite and told her not to be reserved and to eat more if she liked.
After finishing the cake, Grandpa Jiang pulled Jiang Yongqing to play chess with him. The two sat in the living room, while Ruan He and Cui Xiuling watched. Aunt Meng made tea for Grandpa Jiang and the others to sober up.
Chi Ruiche received a phone call and said goodbye to his grandfather before leaving. The other three went upstairs to the living room to chat and watch a movie. Wang Ruozhi felt a little embarrassed and could only watch Jiang Yi and Jiang Yang chatting warmly.
Jiang Yi realized that she was being cold to her sister-in-law, so she took the initiative to find topics to talk about.
"Sister-in-law, I heard from my brother that you are a pianist." Jiang Yi knew something about Wang Ruozhi, and asked this question knowingly because he couldn't find a topic to talk about.
Wang Ruozhi listened to Jiang Yi and said somewhat embarrassedly, "Your brother is exaggerating. It's just a hobby. When I was young, my parents liked to cultivate my temperament, so I learned a little bit of everything, but I'm not an expert in anything."
Jiang Yang pretended to cough, but actually smiled. Isn't this also Jiang Yi? His mother tried hard to raise him to be an artistic youth, but he ended up going astray.
Wang Ruozhi was actually being modest. She was a true lady from a prominent family, nurtured by her parents who wanted her to be exposed to all sorts of things, and she did a great job of it.
"Before I came, I heard that Xiao Yi also plays the piano. Would you be interested in a friendly match?" Wang
Ruozhi invited Jiang Yi somewhat nervously, as she genuinely loved the piano and couldn't resist the urge to play.
"Xiao Yi hasn't touched it in a long time, he probably forgot about it long ago."
Jiang Yang refused, saying that Jiang Yi was very talented and had been learning since she was a child. If it weren't for her right hand injury, she would definitely be an outstanding pianist.
Wang Ruozhi realized she had said the wrong thing. Although she was engaged to Jiang Yang, she didn't know much about the Jiang family, especially Jiang Yi. She wanted to find information about him, but there was very little information available.
Jiang Yi smiled wryly and looked down at her right hand. Jiang Yang looked at Jiang Yi's downcast eyes, took a piece of candy and placed it on her right hand.
Jiang Yi was surprised by the candy, and subconsciously gripped it tightly. She forced a smile and told Jiang Yang that she was okay.
"Dad, I'm sorry I'm late."
The noise at the door was loud, and Grandpa Jiang paused in his chess game, but resumed after a moment without looking up.
"Big Brother." Jiang Yongqing looked towards the door and saw that Jiang Guoqing, who was late, was followed by a girl.
When Cui Xiuling saw the girl behind Jiang Guoqing, she immediately understood and got up to stop Jiang Guoqing.
"We can talk about it after today," Cui Xiuling hurriedly tried to stop him, but Jiang Guoqing avoided her with disgust.
"Dad, Xiaoxue heard it's your birthday today and came especially to wish you a happy birthday. She even made a cake herself." Jiang Guoqing completely ignored Cui Xiuling's words and pulled the girl behind him to the front.
"Grandpa, I wish you good health and a long life," the girl said softly, her head down, holding the cake in her hand, looking a little lost, but her eyes darting around.
Jiang Guoqing handed the cake to Aunt Meng and told her to cut it, saying, "Hurry up and go." His urging left Aunt Meng somewhat at a loss.
"I appreciate the thought, but the doctor told me to control my blood sugar." Grandpa Jiang refused without giving me any face.
“Dad, Xiaoxue put a lot of effort into this cake, you should at least try a bite.” Jiang Guoqing said, standing up for the girl.
"Okay, put it aside for now." Grandpa Jiang placed a piece down. "Your turn, Yongqing."
Jiang Guoqing took a deep breath and made a great decision: "Dad, there's something else I want to tell you."
"What is it that you have to say today?" Grandpa Jiang continued to play his chess pieces, not letting Jiang Guoqing affect his mood.
“Dad, the doctor gave Xinping a critical condition notice today. I know her biggest wish is for our daughter to be recognized by her ancestors. I owe her too much in this life, and I don’t want her last wish to be unfulfilled.”
Jiang Guoqing felt heartbroken thinking about Xu Xinping lying in the hospital, barely alive.
"How do you recognize your ancestors and return to your roots?" Grandpa Jiang asked, knowing the answer already.
“Jiang Guoqing, don’t even think about it. What right does that vixen’s daughter have? If only she had known this would happen, she wouldn’t have done it in the first place. This is her retribution.” Cui Xiuling’s voice trembled. How could he bring her daughter into the house seeking a title?
"Cui Xiuling, that's enough! Haven't you been making a scene for long enough? Can't you be a little more magnanimous now?" Jiang Guoqing's tone was icy; he was only maintaining a facade with Cui Xiuling and the others.
"I'm being unreasonable. What woman can tolerate her husband's infidelity?"
Cui Xiuling's self-esteem was completely shattered. Looking at this girl, who looked very much like Xu Xinping, she wanted to tear off her hypocritical mask.
“Xinping and I are truly in love. She has never asked for the position of Mrs. Jiang. Isn’t that enough?” Jiang Guoqing’s mind was already skewed, and he wouldn’t listen to anything he said.
The movie upstairs had finished, and the argument downstairs could be heard upstairs. Jiang Yang got up and went downstairs to check on them, letting the two of them continue watching the movie.
Grandpa Jiang also stopped, looking at his eldest son with a disappointed expression: "Guoqing, I have already agreed to let her take the surname Jiang, and I have not skimped on her food, clothing, or other necessities."
"Dad, I want Xiaoxue to be included in the family genealogy. She is the eldest daughter of our Jiang family." Jiang Guoqing blurted out his idea without thinking.
"Young Miss? What a scheme! That bitch must have been the one who told you that," Cui Xiuling sneered.
Jiang Yang came downstairs and saw a girl following behind his father. Her features resembled his father's, and he recognized the girl.
"Dad," Jiang Yang called out politely.
"Yes, Xiaoyang, this is your little sister Xiaoxue." Jiang Guoqing introduced Jiang Xue with great enthusiasm.
"Big brother," Jiang Xue called out obediently.
Jiang Yang was puzzled for a moment before he understood why his father was away from home all year round, why he had seen this girl before, and why he had also seen a middle-aged woman that day, both of them with happy smiles on their faces.
"Shut up, your older brother isn't here."
Cui Xiuling rushed over and slapped Jiang Xue across the face. No one expected Cui Xiuling to do that.
Jiang Guoqing pushed her away, and Jiang Yang immediately helped his mother up. Jiang Guoqing's push caused Cui Xiuling to fall backward.
“If you keep making a scene, we’ll get a divorce.” Jiang Guoqing, seeing Cui Xiuling’s unreasonable behavior, no longer held back.
"Enough!" Grandpa Jiang tapped his cane on the floor. "Do you know what you're doing?!"
“Dad, as long as Xiaoxue comes back, you don’t have to worry about the marriage between Jiang and Chi. It doesn’t matter whether Jiang Yi is a boy or a girl. Xiaoxue is a young lady.” Jiang Guoqing felt that he had really come up with a good idea.
"What a brilliant idea! Is this how you act as a father?" Grandpa Jiang looked at Jiang Guoqing with disappointment; his son was beyond redemption.
“If Jiang Xue becomes the eldest daughter, she can inherit the shares and then marry Chi Ruiche, which will be entirely beneficial to our Jiang family.” Jiang Guoqing directly stated the most important information.
Jiang Yongqing and his wife looked at Jiang Guoqing. They naturally knew about the affairs of the Jiang and Chi families, but because the Jiang family had no daughters, this matter was not mentioned.
"Shut up! Do you know what you're saying?" Grandpa Jiang said angrily, a lump forming in his throat as he coughed violently.
"You'd better give up on that idea. If you're still thinking about it, you can leave now."
“Dad, this is a win-win situation.” Jiang Guoqing completely ignored Jiang Yi.
