Resisting the Wind and Splendor

The group left, grumbling and cursing.

Miao Yucui remained standing guard at the courtyard gate, her tall figure like a mountain, unyielding and steadfast.

Inside the study, Chu Yueli and Ning Anran were not unaware of the commotion outside.

The courtyard was too small, and their internal strength was not bad, so they could hear almost every word the people were saying.

"They were originally soldiers under Uncle Zheng Nan, and several of them were experts." Chu Yue Li had met some of these people before, and only heard about others.

She was just a child back then. She had been to a military camp, but only briefly met some people.

The Chu family army was far weaker than before, largely because after that battle, everyone was disheartened and many retired and returned to their hometowns.

After that, Chu Yueli and Chu Xiaohe led the remaining Chu family army to join Prince Jin's army, which forced some of the veteran generals to leave.

"Aunt Anran was one of those who left back then. Does Aunt Anran resent me for letting my brothers fight alongside Prince Jin for so many years?" Chu Yueli's expression turned somber.

Ning Anran laughed and said, "Back then, you were also desperate. If you hadn't joined Prince Jin's army, this army of 100,000 men would probably have been devoured by other forces long ago."

An army without a master is like this; without a powerful backer, its strength will be divided up by other forces.

"At first, I was a bit resentful, thinking that you wanted to curry favor with Prince Jin, so you were even willing to hand over the Chu family army. But later I learned that the Chu family army had been fighting under Xiao He's leadership, and that Prince Jin had never mistreated anyone, so I was relieved."

Lu Fengjin may indeed be flawed in his relationships, and sometimes he lacks decisiveness in his actions.

But at least in his treatment of the soldiers of the Chu family army, he did everything he could to be kind and righteous, and never thought of splitting the Chu family army.

If it weren't for his help back then, the Chu family army might not still be together today.

"I understand." Ning Anran nodded, immediately understanding her concerns. "Leave this to me. Don't worry, I will definitely complete the task excellently."

Chu Yueli smiled and nodded, saying nothing more.

Ning Anran suddenly laughed and said, "Is there another purpose behind your rush to assign me tasks, so that you want me to do more things that have practical significance?"
