Chapter 69 Couplets of Caiyun Village

The temperature was rather chilly in early spring, and the cool wind made the fur on the animals flutter. This temperature was not difficult for them, which were born with fur, but for some animals, the cold was not cold, but just an excuse.

"Hiss, it's so cold~" Feifei snuggled up to Baijie, practically lying on top of him, her teeth chattering and her body trembling from time to time, perfectly portraying a little cat that was afraid of the cold.

Bai Jie patted Fei Fei helplessly and said, "I mean, are you serious? You're a mythical beast, and you're a long-haired cat, aren't you?"

Feifei snuggled up to Baijie without a care in the world, showing no shame whatsoever for her words. Instead, she replied confidently, "Don't you know that cats' ancestors lived in the desert? So is it a problem that I, as a cat, am afraid of the cold?"

Bai Jie's lips twitched, and he asked again, "Then why are you rubbing against me?"

"Haven't you studied physics? This is called friction generating heat." Fei Fei said without any shame, and even rubbed her body against Bai Jie again, completely like a dead cat that isn't afraid of boiling water.

Bai Jie rolled her eyes: If you want to take advantage of me, just say so. I'm not saying I can't agree since you're also furry.

Watching Feifei shamelessly rub against Baijie, Tianlu and Bixie's expressions changed. If they were to draw a comparison, their current feelings were probably similar to those of brothers whose younger sisters have found boyfriends. However, this was still considered good. When Baijie was touched by Xu Xian, their feelings, to use the above analogy, were like their younger sister running away with their mortal enemy.

Feifei shivered for no reason. She looked around suspiciously: "I was just pretending to be cold. Why do I feel a bit chilly?"

Looking around, Feifei noticed Tianlu and Bixie's gaze, and she seemed to understand something: So these two are brother-obsessed... Uh... In that case, is it a bit dangerous for me to play like this?

Just as Feifei was reflecting, they arrived at Caiyun Village.

Festive red couplets were pasted on both sides of the village gate.

First line: Wealth rolls in.

The second line reads: "Eating wealth from all directions."

The horizontal scroll bears five large characters: "Protected by a Pixiu."

Beneath the village gate, three Pixiu looked up at the couplet that was clearly written for them, their expressions quite interesting.

"Who wrote this?" Bai Jie had a bellyful of complaints but didn't know where to start, so he could only manage to utter this one sentence.

Yue Tian spread his hands: "It was written by Old Man Yang. Although it doesn't look like a couplet, it rhymes quite well."

After a moment of silence, Bai Jie spoke up: "Is this how casually you write couplets in your village?"

Because the Pixiu (a mythical creature) dislikes the color red, the three brothers never come to the village during the Lunar New Year, so this was the first time they had ever seen the style of the couplets in Caiyun Village.

"It's all about having a festive atmosphere, why be so particular? Our family's couplets are even more outrageous." Yue Tian walked into the village gate with an indifferent expression.

Bai Jie caught up with him, looking curious: "What kind of couplets do you have at home?"

Yue Tian turned around and met the gazes of the beasts behind him. He calmly said, "First line: Hoping for less trouble for my son next year. Second line: Not causing trouble is a good thing. Horizontal inscription: Hoping the wolf cubs will behave."

The three Pixiu and one Feifei stared at Yue Tian in disbelief, their expressions more varied than ever before. Even Bixie, usually expressionless, couldn't keep a straight face.

"What kind of image do you have in your parents' eyes?!" Bai Jie was the first to react and open his mouth to complain. He couldn't imagine what Yue Tian had done. Even just hearing the couplet, Bai Jie could feel the deep expectations of Yue Tian's parents.

Yue Tian looked completely unfazed: "What's so surprising about this? It's the same every year during Chinese New Year. My parents never repeat the same couplets. I'm used to it."

"Awesome." Fei Fei gave a thumbs up, and the three Pixiu followed suit, showing their respect for Yue Tian.

"It's not that amazing," Yue Tian said, scratching his head sheepishly.

Bai Jie retorted, "It's obviously very powerful, but I wouldn't dare to play like that. It would hurt a lot if I got struck by lightning."

Tianlu's body trembled slightly, and then he nodded repeatedly in agreement.

A group of animals walked through the village, chatting as they went. Along the way, there were festive scenes of the New Year everywhere. Red "double happiness" stickers were pasted on the windows, and couplets, some ordinary and some unique, were pasted on the door of every household.

The occasional sound of firecrackers could be heard, I wondered which family was setting them off or if some naughty kid was up to his old tricks again.

"Huh? How did I end up here without realizing it?" Yue Tian stopped in surprise when she saw a familiar house.

Upon hearing Yue Tian's words, the beasts followed his gaze and immediately noticed the bizarre couplet.

First line: Nine sons lose money, family declines.

The second line reads: "We shouldn't have had so many children."

Horizontal scroll: Why is it so hard to have a daughter?

A strong sense of resentment washed over him, and Bai Jie subconsciously took a step back. From the distorted characters, he seemed to see the grief-stricken expressions on the parents' faces as they wrote the couplet.

"Whose house is this? It seems to be just as full of resentment as yours." Feifei blinked and asked curiously. She had seen many strange couplets along the way, but it was rare to see one that clearly showed deep resentment.

Yue Tian grinned: "This is Huang Jiu's family. He has eight older brothers. Shall I take you to meet them?"

The three Pixiu and Feifei had no objections. They were just brought out to have fun, so it didn't matter where they went.

"Huang Jiu! Come out! Your brother Yue is here, open the door quickly!"

Not long after Yue Tian shouted, the courtyard gate was opened, and Huang Jiu was standing behind it.

"Brother Yue, what brings you here? Shouldn't you be chasing after someone who just blew up a latrine? Hey? Boss, you guys are here too?"

The first thing Huang Jiu said after opening the door made Yue Tian's face darken. He stepped forward and punched Huang Jiu, saying irritably, "What I do is none of your business! And why did you blow up the latrine?"

Huang Jiu silently shut his mouth and made way for the beasts outside to come in. He couldn't very well say that because wolves and dogs are both canines, he immediately associated them with poop, could he? He'd probably get beaten to death if he said that.

Several beasts entered Huang Jiu's courtyard. Huang Jiu closed the gate and turned to ask, "So, what are you all doing here?" Clearly, he selectively ignored the previous question.

"I was just passing by and dropping by. Where are your brothers? I haven't seen them." Yue Tian looked around and asked.

“They’ve all run out, only Fourth Brother is still at home,” Huang Jiu replied as he walked into the house.

Suddenly, Bai Jie had a sense of déjà vu: a weasel, the fourth brother, ranked fourth? Why does this setting seem so familiar?

Soon, Bai Jie understood what this sense of déjà vu was all about.

In one of Huang Jiu's bedrooms, posters of various anime characters were pasted on the walls. Upon closer inspection, some of them were works by the company Bai Jie.

A computer desk sits under the window, and the dusty keyboard and mouse indicate that the computer has not been used for a long time.

Above the computer desk against the wall is a bookshelf, but there isn't a single book in it. Instead, it's filled with figurines, models, toys, and other items.

"Hehehe, this couple is so cute." A weasel leaned against the bed in the bedroom, holding a phone. His face was very similar to Huang Jiu's, the biggest difference being that he had a patch of white fur on the right side of his face that stretched diagonally from his forehead to his cheek.

The white patch that spread across its eyes and stood out on its face like a scar made it look like a formidable character. If this weasel were to become serious, it would definitely be a tough character that any beast would find difficult to mess with. But unfortunately, this tough character was currently wearing a maternal smile.

"Fourth Brother!" With a loud shout, the bedroom door was pushed open and Huang Jiu walked in.

Huang Si, whose girlish heart was bursting with excitement, was startled. He quickly composed himself and tried his best to maintain the little bit of dignity he had left as an older brother.

"My friends came to visit, so I brought them here to meet you," Huang Jiu said casually, completely ignoring the anime posters all over the room, seemingly used to it all along.

Upon hearing Huang Jiu's words, Huang Si's expression changed: "Ninth Brother's friends... they won't destroy the house, will they?"

Huang Si had heard that Ninth Brother was a notorious troublemaker in the village. Based on his understanding of Ninth Brother and his relationship with him, he didn't need to worry about him ruining his figurines, but he might not be so sure about Ninth Brother's friends.

"Don't worry, Fourth Brother, they're not here to cause trouble." Huang Jiu knew how much Huang Si treasured those figurines, so he explained helplessly.

"Although Brother Yue is a bear, although Brother Yue is lawless, and although Brother Yue once blew up someone's outhouse while playing with biogas, Brother Yue would never betray his own brothers! Hmm... I guess so."

Lost in thought, Huang Jiu turned around and beckoned the beasts outside the door to come in. After a short while, three Pixiu, a wolf, and a cat stood in the room.

Bai Jie stared at Huang Si in front of him and realized: I knew Huang Jiu was familiar with Fourth Brother when he mentioned him. It was you! Huang Si who stole Tianlu's meal tickets!
