The daily life of the crew of "Beasts".
Chapter 23: Divine Beasts Exist in the Mortal Realm, From the Ninth Heaven; Filming Begins
The sun is high in the sky, and the bustling city is filled with traffic. The camera zooms in to show Tianlu sitting upright on the rooftop of a tall building.
"Hello everyone, I am Pixiu. I am currently looking for a job. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the status of mythical beasts has declined significantly. If I don't work hard, I won't have anything to eat."
"Pass!"
With a snap, Samo closed the scribbling board in his hand.
Puss in Boots clapped his paws in satisfaction and praised, "Pippi acted very well, the emotions were on point, and it was done in one take."
"Hehe, of course." Tianlu was practically strutting around with pride after being praised like that.
"That's not acting, that's just your true feelings." Bai Jie, who was sitting next to Puss in Boots watching the filming, complained. With Tianlu's experience, before meeting Bai Jie, he couldn't survive in human cities and was forced to live a life of hardship in the wild. After meeting Bai Jie, he felt that he was too useless and went out to find a job, but he kept hitting a wall. It's really not wrong to say that he was showing his true feelings.
"Ahem, alright, that's enough. Let's hurry up and film the next scene." Puss in Boots coughed and changed the subject: What's wrong with this kid? How did such a nice compliment end up making Beast so uncomfortable?
"Uh... okay." Bai Jie obediently shut up after the director spoke, and picked up the model remote control next to him.
The next scene shows Tianlu being discovered and captured by humans, escaping and jumping off the rooftop. Baijie will be responsible for operating the model to assist with the filming.
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh." The helicopter model slowly rose into the air as the rotors turned. Bai Jie began to adjust the angle and distance between the model and the camera so that it would present an effect similar to a real helicopter.
"Is this okay?" Bai Jie shouted at the cameraman.
"Hmm... a little higher, a little closer to the camera, oh yes, that's it." The photographer (a pigeon) directed Bai Jie to manipulate the model, and soon the two of them were adjusted.
On the other side, Puss in Boots was lecturing the extras, "You guys act well, don't let your expressions fall apart when you're filming. Whoever performs well will get an extra chicken leg at lunch."
Tianlu suddenly appeared out of nowhere, drifting behind Puss in Boots and asking, "Director~ Can I get an extra chicken leg?"
"Meow!!" Puss in Boots was startled by Tianlu appearing out of nowhere and blurted out in her native language, "Where did you come from?!"
Tianlu didn't answer Puss in Boots' question. Instead, he asked in a low voice, "Director, can I have an extra chicken leg?"
"Fine, I'll add it for you! Don't talk like that, it's creepy!" Puss in Boots was completely stunned: What was this feeling of being haunted by a vengeful spirit?
"Hehe, thank you, director! Long live the director!" Tianlu's ghostly expression vanished instantly, and he cheered excitedly.
Puss in Boots is speechless: This guy changes his expression so quickly, it seems we don't need to worry about his acting skills.
Just then, a loud shout came from the other side of the set: "Director, the set is ready!"
Upon hearing this voice, Puss in Boots perked up: "Everyone, get ready to start filming!"
"Yes, director!" the extras replied in unison. They grabbed the tools placed next to them, their faces fierce and menacing, looking like they were about to kill someone. This intimidating aura reminded Tianlu of some bad memories, and he subconsciously took a step back.
Upon arriving at the filming location, all the staff and actors took their places.
"3, 2, 1, Action!"
Upon hearing the command, Tianlu took a step forward, and the photographer immediately gave a close-up of his front paw, revealing a trap in front of it.
"Swish!" The animal trap snapped shut with a crisp sound, but Tianlu had already run away.
"Where is it!"
"Catch him now!"
A group of people, shouting and yelling, chased after Tianlu with all sorts of animal-catching tools in their hands.
A props crew member stood on the water tank on the rooftop, picked up a harpoon gun, and aimed it at Tianlu.
While running, Tianlu suddenly felt a chill down his back and instinctively dodged to the side.
"Whoosh—bang!" A sharp harpoon pierced the rooftop floor, and a flying stone crab grazed Tianlu's face.
Bai Jie, standing off the field, flinched. He looked bewildered at the staff member above: "How can you shoot so accurately?! Murder?!"
Puss in Boots was startled and almost yelled "Cut!" but after realizing there was no real danger, he held it back.
Shooting continues.
An extra rushed up to Tianlu and swung his dog-catching net at him.
The dog-catching net swung through the air in an arc, then slammed heavily onto the ground, only to find it had caught nothing.
After dodging the dog-catching net, Tianlu took two steps forward and leaped up, using the trap cage that fell from mid-air to jump onto the heads of the crowd.
"Catch him now!"
"stop!"
"Don't let him get away!"
The extras shouted excitedly, whether they were getting into character or really into it, after all, this was a Pixiu, and touching it was supposed to bring real wealth.
Tianlu leaped over the heads and faces of the unfortunate souls, and just as he was about to break through the encirclement, suddenly there was a "crack!"
Tianlu paused his leap, "What's going on?"
Blind Point JPG
"Did I do something wrong?!"
Points to consider (JPG).
"brush--"
"Ouch!" Tianlu was caught in the dog net without warning. "What are you doing! Wasn't filming over?!"
"Cough cough cough, oh, sorry, I didn't realize what was happening." An extra awkwardly reached out and scooped Tianlu out of the water and put him on the ground, taking the opportunity to smear him with oil: Hehe, I'm going to be rich!
"Director, why did you suddenly cut it?" Tianlu, unaware that he had been taken advantage of, ran up to Puss in Boots and asked in confusion.
Instead of answering Tianlu, Puss in Boots shouted to the extras, "No filming equipment other than cameras is allowed on set."
After saying that, Puss in Boots waved his paw and said, "Alright, clean up the scene and reshoot the part where you break through the encirclement."
Puss in Boots didn't say much, but the meaning was clear: someone had secretly taken a phone to record a video, and it was probably captured on camera, otherwise the recording wouldn't have stopped.
While tidying up the set in preparation for the second shoot, Xiaohang approached the props crew member from before and said, "Here's your pay for this month. You don't need to come back tomorrow."
"No, no, producer, I really didn't mean it!" A props staff member was on the verge of tears.
"You're fired." Xiaohang didn't mince words at all.
"Okay, fine." A certain employee—no, I can't call him an employee anymore—a certain passerby, accepted his wages for the month with a miserable face. He could only accept that he deserved it; after all, he had shot so accurately.
After some time, the venue was cleaned up again.
On set, Puss in Boots looked helplessly at the extras, as no one had handed in their phones during the break.
Puss in Boots patted Xiaohang on the shoulder, signaling him to go. Xiaohang didn't say anything, but instead walked menacingly toward the extras with his trident.
Five minutes later, Xiaohang, who had driven two more people, returned to Puss in Boots' side.
"Alright," Puss in Boots clapped his paws. "Everyone, get to your positions."
The second shoot begins
"3, 2, 1, Action!"
Tianlu dashed out quickly, dodging the dog-catching net, leaping onto the trap cage and landing on top of the crowd, and then...
"Crack!"
Puss in Boots pointed at the extra waving the dog net and said, "You didn't have any presence when you were waving it. Do it again."
Third shoot
"3, 2, 1, Action!"
Just like yesterday, they dodged the dog-catching nets, stepped on the traps, and leaped onto the heads of the crowd, bounding quickly.
"Crack!"
"The extras' expressions aren't right, let's do it again."
Fourth shoot
"3, 2, 1, Action!"
Dodging the dog-catching net, they leaped onto the heads of the crowd.
"Crack!"
"The trap was set too late, start over."
Fifth shoot
"3, 2, 1, Action!"
A few seconds later, "Click!"
Puss in Boots stared speechlessly at Tianlu trapped in the dog net. "Weren't you supposed to be very skilled?"
"Huh? Huh? Oh!" Tianlu, looking completely numb: Filming is so tiring, I don't want to film anymore, Baijie, I want to go home.
Bai Jie: No way! You finally found a job, don't give up halfway. I was also very tired when I started my own business, but I still made it through in the end.
After another round of trouble, "Pass."
Upon hearing this word, the entire cast collapsed to the ground.
Puss in Boots rubbed his head in frustration. "If I had known it would turn out like this, I wouldn't have just hired a bunch of actors to save money."
I regret buying JKG.
Puss in Boots' original idea was that since there wouldn't be many human scenes in the later parts of the series, they could just hire some temporary workers. But now they're suffering the consequences, as scenes that could have been filmed in one take have been dragged out until now.
Puss in Boots was fretting when Bai Jie arrived beside Tianlu. "Alright, get up! Even if you want to rest, don't lie on the ground. You'll get your fur dirty. (How am I supposed to vacuum it if it's dirty?)"
"It's all those mud-covered people's fault!" Tianlu got up and angrily pointed at the extras. "If it weren't for them, I would have finished long ago!" Tianlu's face was full of accusation, and his goodwill towards the mud-covered people decreased by five.
The extras who dragged the team down: Awkward moments (JPG).
"Alright, Tianlu, stop talking. Their acting skills can't compare to yours," Baijie began to coax his angry little Tianlu.
"Hmph, of course!" Tianlu crossed his arms arrogantly, then glanced at the group of extras. "Weren't their first take pretty good? How come they got worse and worse as the filming progressed?"
Bai Jie stroked his chin. "Hmm...maybe this is what they mean by 'one brings life, two brings decline, and three brings exhaustion'."
"Huh?" Tianlu tilted his head blankly, not understanding.
Bai Jie covered her face: I told you to study hard, but you wouldn't listen. Oh well, with this guy's brain, he probably can't concentrate on his studies anyway.
