You are unlucky and I am tough

Chapter 24: No Playing Games

The birthday banquet lasted until the moon was at its highest point in the sky. The servant of the old scholar came over and said that the villagers could take the remaining dishes back home.

So some villagers ran to nearby homes to borrow bowls and plates.

Hu Chunhua was the most shameless person. Without saying a word, she rushed to the headman's house and borrowed a basin. She picked up all the meat and vegetables and stuffed them into the basin. No one could compete with her in her enthusiasm.

Then, when fighting for the last pig's trotter, she and Li confronted each other, both holding onto the plate of pig's trotters and neither refusing to give up.

"I got it first." Hu Chunhua said viciously with her eyes wide open.

"It was obviously me who took it first." Li was not to be outdone.

She looked at the bowl full of meat and vegetables in Hu Chunhua's hand, regretting that she ran too slowly, so she said sarcastically: "Take so much home to feed the pigs."

"You are the pig. I get more because I am capable." Hu Chunhua shouted at the top of her voice.

"Bah, shameless! Everyone knows that your family eats from day to night, and you're not afraid of dying of stuffiness."

"I didn't eat your food." Hu Chunhua jumped up, let go of her chopsticks and pushed Li.

Li staggered after being pushed and shouted sharply, "Cheng Jinshan, you useless thing, you can't see that your wife is being bullied."

Cheng Jinshan was right next to her and immediately rushed over and pushed Hu Chunhua.

He was a hunter with great strength, and Hu Chunhua was pushed back two steps. His foot slipped on the bones on the ground, and his heavy body weighing nearly 200 pounds fell to the ground, and the full bowl of meat and vegetables was spilled.

"what....."

Hu Chunhua was covered in vegetables. Her two sons helped her up and she rushed forward screaming at the top of her lungs.

He immediately started fighting with Li, grabbing her face, pulling her hair, and using his hands and feet.

The men on both sides also went to help, and the scene became a mess. The onlookers were afraid of being implicated and hid away.

Cheng Shuang squatted beside the campfire, grabbed a handful of melon seeds and ate them, laughing as she watched.

Cheng Jinshan was so strong that he could beat two people at once. Hu Chunhua and his wife didn't get any advantage at all. Their hair was disheveled and there were several bloodstains on their faces. They sat on the ground crying and wailing.

In the end, the matter was resolved only when the village head arrived. The two families were scolded by the headman, and the food they had snatched was spilled. They went back cursing.

Seeing that there was nothing more to watch, Cheng Shuang stood up and called out, "Xinyi, Chen'er, Xiaosi, go home."

The three little ones who had been playing with a group of children hurried over, called the others, and went home together as a family.

After returning home, Cheng Shuang didn't let them go to bed directly, saying that they were sweating after playing all night and must take a shower before sleeping. She was determined to cultivate the habit of taking frequent showers among her younger siblings.

Upon hearing this, Wei Nanxing went back to his room to get his clothes and asked Wei Qinglang to go to the river with him to wash them.

The weather was hot in this season and it was comfortable to take a bath in the river, so Wei Qinglang went with him.

After Cheng Shuang finished taking care of the little ones, she saw that Wei Qinglang had not returned yet, so she washed them directly in the main room.

When Wei Qinglang came back, he saw that she had already washed and was sitting by the bed fixing her hair, with a candle lit on the table.

"Have you finished washing? Why didn't you wait for me to come back?"

Cheng Shuang put down the comb and said, "I can't wait for you to take me into the space to wash every day, so let's go every few days."

"That's fine. You go to sleep first. I'll go in for a while."

"Wait." Cheng Shuang rushed over and grabbed him, "You, are not allowed to go in and play games. We have to get up early tomorrow and take the ox cart to the county town."

Wei Qinglang opened his mouth and said, "I didn't say I was going in to play games?"

"I'd be surprised if it wasn't?" Cheng Shuang said with an expression that said, "I've seen through you." "Last time, it was because you got up too late that the village ox cart had already left, so we had to borrow a donkey cart from the village head. But we can't borrow one from the village head every time we go to the city."

Wei Qinglang said innocently, "Okay, go to sleep."

Cheng Shuang finally let him go and lay down on the bed. Suddenly, she jumped up again and warned him, "Don't wait until I fall asleep to sneak in, or I'll throw water on you tomorrow morning."

Wei Qinglang shook his head, blew out the candle, and smiled helplessly in the darkness.

The next day, a loud crowing of a rooster woke up the sleeping Chengjia Village.

The early morning sun is like a golden veil, gently falling on the quiet village. The breeze blows gently, bringing the fresh and pleasant breath from the fields.

Cheng Lai Fu drove the ox cart as usual and slowly stopped it at the fixed position at the bridge head.

After parking the car, he took out a steaming pancake from his pocket and started eating it in big mouthfuls. Before he finished eating, villagers who were going to the city came hurriedly towards this side, carrying large and small bags of things.

Soon, the villagers who came one after another almost filled the ox cart. Cheng Lai Fu collected two cents from each person and then jumped on the ox cart.

He raised the whip in his hand and was about to set off when an urgent voice suddenly sounded from behind.

"Wait, there are two more people."

The villagers in the car turned around curiously and saw two people running towards them on the village road.

Wei Qinglang was carrying a backpack on his back and holding Cheng Shuang with one hand. Cheng Shuang was waving her hands vigorously while running and shouting loudly for the ox cart to wait.

The two men ran out of breath and finally caught up with the ox cart at the last moment.

The villagers on the cart squeezed in to make room for them. Wei Qinglang got on first and then reached out to pull Cheng Shuang on board. The ox cart swayed forward towards the county town.

A woman brought her son out. The child was excited about going to the city and kept asking his mother what fun things there were in the county.

The uncle sitting nearby, smoking a pipe, said, "The county town is bustling. You can buy everything, all kinds of novelties, and there are also lots of snacks. The aroma can be smelled from far away. There's also a temple fair and a theater by the river."

The uncle probably went to the county town often and was very familiar with it. He couldn't stop talking about the prosperity of the county town. Everyone in the car listened to him carefully and asked a few questions from time to time.

As they were walking, when they were about to reach the city gate, an aunt suddenly asked Cheng Shuang, "Qinglang wife, what are you doing in the city today?"

Cheng Shuang was almost shaken to pieces by the journey, and casually replied, "Go buy some needle and thread to make clothes."

"Where's Qinglang?" the aunt asked Wei Qinglang again, "I don't think the things in your backpack are prey."

Wei Qinglang was suddenly asked and didn't know how to answer. He came just to keep Cheng Shuang company. Gastrodia elata is expensive, and it would be bad if she, a teenage girl, went to sell it and was targeted by someone.

"He must be here with his wife."

Another woman looked at the two and smiled, "Newly married couples are so loving. My husband wants me to do something with him, but I can't get him to do it even if I beg him."

"I remember now. Didn't your wife accompany you to the mountains to hunt a few days ago? They were so close to each other that they didn't want to be separated for a moment." The aunt also joked in a good-natured way.

Cheng Shuang laughed awkwardly and looked at Wei Qinglang with helplessness in her eyes.

Oh, forget it, let them think whatever they want.
