Flash Marriage with Dr. Huo
Chapter 64: Man of the hour
Lin Yunzheng nodded gracefully and said softly, "Thank you, Song Tiancheng. You're right. Since we've already ordered the meal, let's finish it before leaving." She glanced at the necklace on the table and pushed it back. "As for this gift, I think I won't accept it. I hope you understand."
Hearing Lin Yunzheng's words, a hint of tenderness flashed in Song Tiancheng's eyes, and then he nodded gently. "I understand," he responded gently, with a hint of respect and relief in his voice.
Then, to ease the atmosphere, he turned to the steak on the table and said, "Try the steak here. The chef's cooking skills are quite well-received."
Lin Yunzheng followed the advice, picked up her knife and fork, cut off a small piece of steak, and put it into her mouth. The steak tasted just as Song Tiancheng had said, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, juicy and rich. Every bite was a feast for the taste buds.
She couldn't help but nodded approvingly. "It's really good, a good choice." She said with a smile.
"Lin Yunzheng, forgive me for being blunt, but you and Huo Chenyuan haven't had a wedding yet. Even though you're legally married, for a prominent family like the Huo family, not having a formal wedding means you haven't truly integrated into their circle. You know, in their eyes, a wedding is more than just a celebration."
Lin Yunzheng put down the fork in her hand and was stunned for a moment.
Thinking of Huo Chenyuan's kindness to her before, Lin Yunzheng responded: "Song Tiancheng, whether or not Dr. Huo and I have a public wedding, the relationship between him and me is very good."
Song Tiancheng stared into Lin Yunzheng's eyes and said slowly, "Miss Lin, I know Huo Chenyuan comes from a distinguished family background. But I feel that I am the one who is truly more suitable for you. I was not born into a wealthy family, and I have worked hard every step of the way. If you are willing to be with me, I can guarantee that you will never suffer any form of pressure or grievance, especially you don't have to care about the opinions of the elders."
When Lin Yunzheng heard this, complicated thoughts surged in her heart.
Indeed, during her time with Huo Chenyuan, she had often felt the invisible pressure from his family. Her mother-in-law, who had recently returned to China, had made her feel uncomfortable more than once. These memories now surfaced one by one, as if Song Tiancheng's words had touched the softest part of her heart.
Song Tiancheng's eyes were warm and sincere at this moment. He continued, "Ms. Lin, whether it's that necklace or any other gift, if you have any concerns, you don't have to accept it. But at that moment in Grandpa's ward, when you added my contact information, I hope you won't delete me. Just treat me as an ordinary friend. If you encounter difficulties in the future or just want to find someone to talk to, remember, I always have a door open for you. No matter when and where, as long as you are willing, you can find me."
After the meal, Song Tiancheng did not try to persuade her to stay, but politely drove Lin Yunzheng back to work.
After arriving at the destination, he watched her figure gradually go away until she disappeared from the end of his sight.
Lin Yunzheng's back was light and elegant. Song Tiancheng felt that there was an indescribable charm in her steps.
She was wearing a simple long dress, the hem of which swayed in the wind, outlining smooth lines, like a quiet and vivid picture.
Sitting in the car, Song Tiancheng stared at the departing figure, and a feeling of reluctance emerged in his heart. It was a feeling of the brevity of the good times, and also the anticipation of meeting again in the future.
After Song Tiancheng drove back to the company, he walked into the office and sat in front of the large desk with a serious expression.
Even when his secretary gently opened the door and walked into the room carrying exquisite tea sets, he was unable to break away from his thoughts.
Lin Yunzheng's figure was like a dream, reappearing in his mind again and again. Every frame was so clear, yet so far away.
He is usually calm and composed, but today he seems very different.
The secretary carefully placed the teacup and whispered, "Mr. Song, your tea."
"Okay. You can go out now." Song Tiancheng's voice was sharp.

After finishing his ward rounds, Dr. Huo returned to his office and quickly got back to his outpatient work.
At this moment, a nurse hurried into the office with good news: "Doctor Huo, the Medicaid funds you applied for bed 35 have been approved!"
Upon hearing this news, Dr. Huo's face flashed with a relieved smile. This funding was undoubtedly a timely help for the patient who had been suffering from the disease for a long time, and meant that the next treatment plan could proceed smoothly, including the vital and urgently needed surgery.
At noon, after a busy morning of outpatient work, Dr. Huo finally got a chance to take a break.
Huo Chenyuan really wanted to know why Song Tiancheng appeared in Mr. Lin’s ward in the morning.
Huo Chenyuan picked up his phone and called his wife, first asking, "Yun Zheng, how about we go out and take wedding photos together this Saturday?"
On the other end of the phone, Lin Yunzheng agreed.
"Should I go to the hospital to visit Mom again?" Lin Yunzheng knew that Huo's mother was still in the hospital.
"No need, there are nurses to take care of her. I went to see her this morning and she was fine." Huo Chenyuan knew that Lin Yunzheng was kind and filial, but he was also worried that his mother would make things difficult for her again.
Then, Huo Chenyuan asked: "I saw Song Tiancheng in your grandfather's ward this morning. Do you know each other? What's going on?" When mentioning this, Huo Chenyuan's voice was a little low, perhaps wavering between caring and being concerned.
Lin Yunzheng said frankly: "My grandfather wanted to introduce me to him. Later we just had a simple meal and I told him that I was married." There was a calmness in her words, and it was obvious that she wanted to eliminate any unnecessary misunderstandings.
Huo Chenyuan was silent for a moment after hearing this. This news seemed to have touched some emotions in him, but he did not delve into it and simply responded, "Yeah, I understand."
Then, Huo Chenyuan said in a low voice: "You know, I want to tell you that I am not so comfortable with your relationship with Song Tiancheng. I have a sense of crisis. He used to be in our school..."
Just as Huo Chenyuan's mind was still wandering on the phone, there was a gentle knock on the office door.
"My colleague knocked on the door. I'll talk to you when I get home in the evening." Huo Chenyuan said and hung up the phone.
The Dean's Assistant pushed open the door and handed over an exquisite envelope with a smile on his face. "Dr. Huo, this is the invitation I just received. The University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine invites you and several other colleagues to visit for an academic visit. The trip will take place next Tuesday. I remember that you happen to have a Canadian visa. You can also go with the visiting Canadian medical delegation."
Huo Chenyuan quickly scanned the contents of the invitation letter, which clearly listed the names of several invited experts, including himself.
This is a rare academic exchange opportunity. Being able to communicate face-to-face with top international scholars and explore the frontiers of medicine will undoubtedly be a huge boost to one's career.
Considering that his wedding was only about two weeks away, Huo Chenyuan turned to the dean's assistant and asked, "So, specifically, how long is this exchange visit to Canada expected to last?"
This question was direct and crucial, affecting all of his subsequent arrangements. The Dean's Assistant reviewed the materials at hand and gave a definitive response: "According to the inviting party's arrangements, the visit will last approximately a week, including round-trip travel time and a schedule of meetings and activities."
"OK, thanks."
Huo Chenyuan calculated the date and found that since he was invited to Canada for an academic exchange, he would be able to come back in time to attend his wedding. However, he was worried that his mother would make things difficult for Lin Yunzheng when he was abroad.
He was more worried about Song Tiancheng. Huo Chenyuan had heard of this influential figure when he was in college.
