Flash Marriage with Dr. Huo

Chapter 14: Proposal for a Flash Marriage

When Huo Chenyuan got off work on Monday, he ended a busy day of work, and the city was dyed with gentle colors by the dusk.

He drove through the bustling city streets and went straight to Lin Yunzheng's company building to pick her up and go to the Huo family mansion to attend Mrs. Huo's 80th birthday celebration.

As night fell, the Huo family mansion was a scene of jubilation both inside and outside. The lights inside the mansion were brightly lit, illuminating the entire courtyard, and relatives and friends gathered together.

In the banquet hall, Huo Chenyuan's brother Huo Chenjun had already arrived. As the eldest son, he was always an indispensable member of family activities. He was calm and dignified, and his every move showed the temperament of a CEO.

As the banquet was getting into full swing, Mrs. Huo quietly called Lin Yunzheng to a quiet corner of the garden.

Under the night sky, the garden of the old house looks particularly quiet. The moonlight shines through the sparse branches and leaves, adding a bit of tranquility to this world.

"My child," Mrs. Huo's voice was soft and full of concern. "You know, as you get older, it's inevitable that you'll feel unwell. The doctor recently recommended that I be hospitalized for a period of recuperation... But, you know me, I just can't stop worrying about my family, especially Chen Yuan."

At this point, a trace of concern flashed in the old lady's eyes, and she continued, "I think if I could see a good outcome for you and Huo Chenyuan, I might feel more at ease. What do you think?"

Lin Yunzheng's heart trembled slightly when she heard this. She naturally understood what Old Lady Huo meant. She was trying to urge them to settle down as soon as possible.

She looked at Huo Chenyuan who was greeting guests not far away. That handsome and tall figure really gave her many reasons to be moved.

But deep down, she still hoped they could spend more time together, after all, they had only known each other for a few days.

"I..." Lin Yunzheng hesitated, not knowing where to start.

"Child, I know what you're worried about," Mrs. Huo patted the back of her hand gently, her tone revealing understanding. "But I believe in fate. The fact that you two can be together means that there must be something in the universe. Believe me, Chen Yuan is a good boy, and he will bring you happiness."

Lin Yunzheng thought of her mother who had been urging her to get married, so she nodded as she listened.

The housekeeper came over and put a cloak on Mrs. Huo: "It's windy, let me help you back to the living room."

"Yun Zheng," Old Mrs. Huo said to Lin Yun Zheng affectionately, "I'll go inside first. I'll have my grandson come over to walk around the yard with you later."

Adding to the tension was the fact that Huo Chenyuan's former blind date, Xie Feifei, was also here today. With her graceful figure and delicate makeup, she had an undeniable presence.

Although Xie Feifei sent messages to Huo Chenyuan many times after the last blind date, Huo Chenyuan never replied, but she still seemed to have some unfulfilled feelings for him.

Xie Feifei was chatting with her female companion Wu Manman.

Xie Feifei: "You know what? I've been thinking about a question recently, that is, why hasn't our aloof Huo Chenyuan fallen in love yet?"

Wu Manman's lips curled up slightly, clearly quite interested in the topic. "I've been curious about this for a long time. Some say he's too busy with work to have the time, while others say he has high standards and ordinary girls are not worth his attention."

"But the most popular saying is that he always has a place in his heart for his ex-girlfriend." Xie Feifei added with a hint of regret in her tone.

"Oh, if that's true, it's really a pity." Wu Manman sighed.

"The last time I went on a blind date with him, I felt like he was forced by his family to show up. We didn't talk much before he said there was an emergency at the hospital and left quickly." Xie Feifei sighed.

The topic of their conversation revolved around Huo Chenyuan. At this moment, Lin Yunzheng passed by.

Xie Feifei was wearing an evening gown and ten-centimeter high heels, making her particularly dazzling in the crowd.

Xie Feifei was walking and talking while holding a red wine glass, but she accidentally stepped on the hem of her skirt and her body suddenly tilted.

Almost at the same moment, Lin Yunzheng instinctively dodged to the side, but still failed to avoid it. Xie Feifei's red wine poured out, most of it splashing directly onto Lin Yunzheng's arm.

"How do you walk!" Xie Feifei scolded Lin Yunzheng, with a hint of anger in her words.

Lin Yunzheng was caught off guard by the sudden situation, but she quickly calmed down and looked up at Xie Feifei.

"You should watch the road, okay? You bumped into me, why are you blaming me?" She fought back bluntly. Although her voice was not loud, it was full of aura.

At this moment, Huo Chenyuan came over: "What happened?"

Xie Feifei's tense face relaxed slightly when she saw Huo Chenyuan appear, and she put on a pitiful look. "Brother Chenyuan, look, this lady wasn't looking carefully when she walked, and she bumped into me, so..." She didn't finish her words, but her plea for help was evident.

Huo Chenyuan turned to Lin Yunzheng and asked politely and concernedly, "Yunzheng, are you okay?" His attitude was clearly leaning towards Lin Yunzheng.

"Thank you, Mr. Huo. I'm fine for now." Lin Yunzheng responded.

"Brother Chenyuan, I was the one who fell." Xie Feifei grabbed Huo Chenyuan's arm and wanted to lean on him.

Huo Yixuan pulled Xie Feifei's arm away and took a step back, keeping a certain distance. "Miss Xie, I'm not your brother." His words were calm but with an unquestionable firmness.

Xie Feifei looked disappointed and looked at Lin Yunzheng with angry eyes.

"Come with me, I'll take you to change clothes." He said, taking Lin Yunzheng's hand and leaving.

After changing clothes, Huo Chenyuan took Lin Yunzheng to the terrace.

The cool night breeze blew by, but it couldn't blow away the subtle atmosphere between the two people.

He asked in a low voice, "My grandma talked to you just now, didn't she mention anything about us?"

Lin Yunzheng turned around, the moonlight illuminating her clear eyes, which flickered with hesitation. "Well, she mentioned..." Her voice was soft, with a hint of uncertainty.

"Does she want us to...get married as soon as possible?" Huo Chenyuan took over the conversation. He knew that his grandmother's desire for the continuation of the family bloodline and her recognition of Lin Yunzheng were the reasons for this.

Lin Yunzheng nodded slightly, confirming his suspicions. "She said she wouldn't agree to go to the hospital unless she saw us get the marriage certificate."

Huo Chenyuan was silent for a moment, then slowly spoke: "To be honest, I didn't expect things to happen so quickly. I have always believed that marriage is one of the most important decisions in life and should not be taken lightly. However," he paused, his deep gaze fixed on Lin Yunzheng, "now considering grandma's advanced age, the situation is special."

"Huo Chenyuan, what you said does make sense." Lin Yunzheng nodded. She could feel that Huo Chenyuan was sincere and cautious.

Huo Chenyuan continued, "So, if you're willing, how about we get the marriage certificate first? We'll all go through all the necessary formalities, and it's up to you whether to make it public. If you don't feel like we're familiar enough, we can just not live together first. Don't worry."

"Who was that Miss Xie just now?"

"A previous blind date, arranged by my family, was not suitable." Huo Chenyuan's explanation was concise.

After the banquet, Huo Chenyuan drove Lin Yunzheng back home.

When they arrived at the downstairs of the apartment building, after Huo Chenyuan parked the car, Lin Yunzheng prepared to get out.

"Are you wary of me?" Lin Yunzheng asked straight to the point after unbuckling her seat belt. She keenly noticed that since the conversation about marriage just now, Huo Chenyuan had been almost silent the entire time, showing no joy in proposing to her. His attitude towards her had become even more cautious, as if he was deliberately keeping a certain distance.

Huo Chenyuan was silent for two seconds before responding, "As a doctor, I'm used to being cautious about everything in the outside world, especially in my work." He explained, "This isn't directed at you personally, but because this profession requires us to be mindful of our responsibility to our patients and our own judgment. If we get the license, I'll also be responsible for you."

"I understand what you mean." Lin Yunzheng said softly.
