Chapter 584 Maybe I should calm down
"Go." Qin Cang's voice sounded again, deep and with an indescribable majesty.
Xiaohu left the tent, unable to conceal his complex emotions. The night wind whipped sharply, swirling his thoughts. Though outwardly calm, his heart was roiling. Liu San, a man who had once fought alongside him, sharing a common goal, was now the subject of his surveillance. Adding to Xiaohu's unease, he realized that his relationship with Liu San was more than just comrades-in-arms—they had endured countless battles and hardships together, forging a deep bond. In Xiaohu's mind, Liu San had always been an impulsive and passionate warrior, one who, while occasionally making risky decisions, possessed a fighting instinct and intuition that could not be ignored.
However, Liu San of today is no longer the high-spirited and determined man he once was. Xiaohu knows that Qin Cang's decision regarding Liu San wasn't a momentary outburst of anger, but a necessary measure after careful consideration. Xiaohu understands that Qin Cang will never take any mistakes on the battlefield lightly, and Liu San's impulsiveness and stubbornness have become a potentially huge hidden danger.
"Damn it," Xiaohu cursed under his breath as he walked into the darkness of the camp, his steps growing heavier. Liu San's image loomed in his mind, and he couldn't help but recall the past. Liu San's unconventional, fearless character was always hard to ignore. His confidence and courage often left Xiaohu feeling strangely shocked. But today, Liu San seemed completely lost in his own emotional turmoil, having lost his way.
He couldn't help but sigh. The years he'd spent fighting alongside Liu San had become his most cherished memories. Behind every successful attack lay their unspoken understanding. Xiaohu had always felt that as long as Liu San was by his side, he wouldn't panic. However, now, Liu San had become someone Qin Cang had to closely monitor. The man he'd once considered a friend and partner had become someone he had to control, and all of this stemmed from that one impulsive decision Liu San had made.
"What should I do?" Xiaohu pondered, his gaze steady but with a hint of fatigue. He had to monitor Liu San, but without exposing himself. Given Qin Cang's strategy, this mission was particularly difficult. Xiaohu knew that although Qin Cang was putting pressure on Liu San, he didn't really want to exclude him from the team. Qin Cang understood Liu San, his ambitions and abilities, and knew that as long as Liu San could calm down, he was still a rare warrior. This was also why Qin Cang had asked him to carry out this mission - he believed that he could sense Liu San's thoughts and remind him how to strike a balance between right and wrong at critical moments.
Xiaohu's thoughts drifted through the rising night fog when suddenly, he heard the sound of muffled footsteps. He tilted his head slightly, his gaze instantly locked onto the figure. Liu San.
Liu San's expression remained gloomy, clearly still weighed down by the recent conversation. He lowered his head, his steps hurried, as if lost in thought, his entire body brimming with tension. And Xiaohu, watching his back, suddenly felt an indescribable pity. This friend, with whom he had once fought shoulder to shoulder, was now trapped by emotion and guilt, shrouded in his former brilliance.
Xiao Hu took a deep breath, determined to close the distance between him and Liu San, to see what he was thinking. Without rushing forward, he quietly followed Liu San. The night was dark and silent, and everything seemed pale under the lights of the camp.
Liu San took a few steps and suddenly stopped. In Xiaohu's sight, his back looked particularly lonely, as if he was exhausted both physically and mentally. After a moment, Liu San muttered to himself, "What am I doing? What for... What am I doing for...?"
Although the words were so low that they were almost inaudible, they were like a bolt of lightning that pierced the night sky and struck Xiaohu's heart. Xiaohu paused for a moment, and he stood still, the suppressed emotions in his heart suddenly bursting out.
He understood that Liu San wasn't being unreasonable or ignorant. The former warrior was now a man burdened with increased responsibility and loneliness. His heart was filled with struggle, anxiety, and even a hint of deep regret. Xiaohu knew that if left unchecked, these emotions could lead Liu San completely astray and become his own worst enemy.
"Xiao Hu?" Liu San suddenly turned his head and saw him standing not far away. A hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.
Xiaohu looked into his eyes, a complex wave of emotions welling up within him. He didn't rush to speak, but remained silent for a moment. Liu San's eyes still held that subtle hint of wariness and self-blame, and this weighed heavily on Xiaohu. He knew he couldn't directly expose Liu San's inner thoughts, but rather should give him some time and space to slowly process these conflicts.
"What's wrong?" Xiaohu spoke softly, his voice low and calm, as if trying to close the distance between himself and Liu San.
Liu San shook his head, looking a little tired: "Nothing, just some things I can't figure out."
"Some things are indeed difficult to sort out." Xiaohu responded calmly, "But you don't have to carry it alone. We are comrades, aren't we?"
Liu San was slightly stunned, then smiled bitterly: "Comrade? Why do I feel like I have become a burden to the team?"
Xiao Hu couldn't help but frowned: "You are not a burden. You are an excellent warrior, and Qin Cang knows this."
"But I disobeyed orders and brought trouble to everyone." Liu San's eyes were filled with guilt, and his tone was low, "I dragged everyone into this."
"You're wrong." Xiaohu stepped forward and patted Liu San's shoulder gently. "This is not entirely your fault. We all make mistakes, but that doesn't mean we can never stand up again. Qin Cang believes in you, and you should believe in yourself too."
Liu San's eyes were a little confused, as if he hadn't completely let go of Xiaohu's words. Xiaohu's heart tightened slightly, but he couldn't help but say, "If you truly repent, you can regain your confidence. As long as you stop letting your emotions dictate your decisions, we can all fight with you."
Liu San's eyes wavered a little, and a bitter smile appeared on the corner of his mouth: "You're right. Maybe I should calm down."
The night grew darker, and the atmosphere in the entire camp gradually became depressing.
