Chapter 534: Eyes Full of Temptation
Chapter 534: Eyes Full of Temptation
As a veteran, Qin Cang knew that Liu San's persistence was not without reason. And for the new recruit, Xiao Hu, while his performance was full of emotional fluctuations, his emotions were not so strong, just because of an injustice. Qin Cang suddenly realized that this was not just an ordinary misunderstanding.
He couldn't help but sigh, a feeling of powerlessness rising within him. As a captain, he should have stood at the pinnacle of the troops, guiding every soldier to victory. Yet, now, he was caught in such a complex predicament that he began to doubt even the soldiers he trusted.
"I know it's not easy for both of you." Qin Cang's voice was low and solemn, and every word seemed to oppress the air around him. "But right now, the most important thing is not your individual explanations, but whether you can truly work together to uncover the truth behind this."
As Qin Cang finished speaking, the tension in the air reached a peak. The soldiers held their breath, and the atmosphere seemed to freeze. Liu San's eyes were still filled with anxiety, while Xiao Hu stared at Qin Cang, his eyes filled with complex emotions. Qin Cang could sense that Xiao Hu was also struggling fiercely. He did not answer Liu San's question, nor did he try to refute it. He remained silent, as if he could not say anything.
Qin Cang sighed softly, his heart filled with helplessness and heaviness. Liu San's question, though seemingly simple, was like a tangled mess that kept growing more and more tangled. And Xiao Hu's silence filled him with an inexplicable anxiety. He knew he couldn't make any immediate decisions now; only at some point in the future would the truth naturally surface.
"You two, follow me." Qin Cang finally spoke, breaking the silence.
Xiao Hu and Liu San both turned their gazes towards him, neither saying a word, simply following him silently. Qin Cang said nothing more, simply leading them to a secluded area in the camp. There were no extra soldiers there, only a patch of high ground covered in thick mud and dead leaves, from which they could clearly see the enemy positions ahead.
When he reached the edge of the plateau, Qin Cang stopped and looked back at Liu San and Xiao Hu. This time, he didn't immediately instruct them what to do, but first looked at Xiao Hu deeply, as if looking for some clues in his eyes.
"Stand still." Qin Cang's low voice broke the brief silence.
Xiaohu and Liu San nodded, quickly adjusting their positions and standing aside as Qin Cang instructed. Qin Cang didn't rush to command them, but quietly observed the situation before him. His eyes locked onto the enemy's position from afar. Those enemies hidden in the distance seemed to be motionless, but Qin Cang knew that every moment of silence in war was often accompanied by murderous intent.
He didn't speak, merely signaling with his eyes that Xiaohu and Liu San should observe their surroundings. The air grew quiet and heavy, everyone's nerves on edge. Qin Cang's mind raced through this unknown battlefield. They stood here not simply to observe the enemy's movements, but to find a way through their positions, to secure a glimmer of hope.
Xiaohu stood erect, his eyes fixed on the distant enemy position. Liu San's accusation, the rage and powerlessness of that moment, still reverberated in his mind. But the situation demanded he suppress all emotion and focus on the task at hand. Although his heart still churned with turbulent emotions, he forced himself to calm down and concentrate on the enemy's movements.
He glanced at the distant patch of grass, sensing a faint movement and a sudden sense of alarm. Although the enemy before him didn't seem to be making any significant movements, he knew that every little detail could conceal a deadly threat.
"Liu San." Qin Cang finally spoke, his voice deep and powerful, as if it could penetrate the entire air. "Where do you think the enemy's defense is vulnerable?"
Liu San frowned slightly, a hint of hesitation flickering in his eyes. Although a seasoned veteran, he still showed some hesitation at this moment. He was silent for a moment before finally speaking, "The enemy's defenses appear tight, especially on the flanks. There are two watchtowers there, and the enemy's forces should be concentrated there."
Qin Cang nodded, his eyes still fixed on the enemy's position. He knew that Liu San's judgment made sense, but that was not the only thing they needed to worry about right now. He turned to look at Xiao Hu and suddenly asked, "Xiao Hu, what do you think?"
Xiao Hu was stunned for a moment. He didn't expect Qin Cang to ask him directly. His heartbeat suddenly accelerated when he was suddenly asked this question, but he forced himself to calm down, took a deep breath, and quickly turned his attention to the enemy's position.
"There's a loophole on the flank." Xiaohu's voice was low, but full of confidence. "Although the enemy's defense is tight, they don't have enough troops to support them from the flank. We can take advantage of their unpreparedness, bypass the front line, and infiltrate from the flank."
Qin Cang nodded silently, a hint of admiration in his eyes, but also a hint of worry. Xiaohu's judgment, while somewhat risky, was not without reason. The enemy's flanks were indeed the weakest link in their defenses. However, whether this path would be viable remained a huge unknown.
"Are you sure?" Qin Cang asked again, his eyes full of temptation.
Xiaohu was silent for a moment, his eyes firm. "I'm sure. The enemy's flank should be the best opportunity for us to break through."
Qin Cang looked at him, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes. Xiaohu's answer wasn't perfect, but it displayed the courage and confidence of a young warrior. Although he still couldn't fully understand Xiaohu's inner world, he had to admit that this young man not only had potential, but at certain critical moments, he could display a mindset that could potentially change the entire battle situation.
He turned his head slightly, took a deep breath, and whispered, "We will proceed as planned, but we must remain vigilant. Any negligence will result in a heavy price."
Xiaohu nodded, and Liu San didn't say much, just silently watching Qin Cang. They knew that the next action would determine the fate of each of them, and even the victory or defeat of the entire battle.
Qin Cang's gaze drifted off into the distance once more, his complex thoughts undiminished. He still didn't fully trust Liu San, and couldn't shake his uncertainty about Xiao Hu. But now, he didn't have the time to dwell on those complex emotions and questions. War often progressed rapidly, one decision after another. Right now, the most important thing was how to deal with the enemy before him, how to protect his teammates, and how to break through this seemingly blocked path.
