Bright Sword: Conquer the monk at the beginning and take down Zhou Weiguo
Chapter 445: Leaping Out from Cover
Qin Cang's heart ached again. He lowered his head and looked at his steps, as if thinking about something. Xiaohu was right. Liu San had become so closed off now, trusting no one, not even himself. Qin Cang understood that this feeling could only be truly understood by those who had experienced it firsthand.
After walking for a long time, the two finally stopped by a quiet river. The water flowed slowly, shimmering, and the air was filled with the freshness of water vapor. Qin Cang stood there quietly, his eyes cast into the distance, his heart still restless.
"Do you think I should keep trying?" he asked again.
Xiao Hu was silent for a moment, then whispered, "I think you've tried your best. The road ahead is not something you can force. Liu San is a very stubborn person, but how far he can go and whether he can get out of this situation depends on him."
Qin Cang didn't respond, his gaze still fixed on the distance. Everything around him seemed to be flowing quietly, but the waves in his heart were still difficult to calm down. Having come to this point, he already knew that this entanglement would not end so easily.
Qin Cang stood by the river. The air was slightly moist, and the water surface was speckled with tiny spots of light in the sunlight, as if countless tiny stars were gently swaying. Xiaohu was still standing beside him, silently. It seemed that everyone was silent in their own world. However, Qin Cang's heart could not calm down. Liu San's matter lingered in his mind. Those conversations, the indifference and anger, were like a huge stone pressing tightly against his chest, lingering.
He didn't dare think any further. He had endured those chaotic emotions for too long. Xiaohu's words rang in his ears again: "Liu San doesn't trust you, not because you did anything wrong, but because he no longer trusts anyone." Every time he thought of this, Qin Cang's heart ached.
But at this moment, he suddenly felt that the atmosphere around him was a little different.
Qin Cang's gaze suddenly turned to the woods on his left. It was silent, as if devoid of life. Yet, his intuition told him that it wasn't peaceful. He frowned slightly, a sense of inexplicable unease rising within him. The air seemed to freeze in an instant, and all sounds became distant, even the sound of the flowing river becoming faint.
"Xiao Hu." Qin Cang whispered.
When Xiao Hu heard the voice, he immediately turned around and looked at Qin Cang: "Brother, what's wrong?"
Qin Cang didn't answer, but lowered his head, his gaze piercing the surroundings. The shadows of the trees swayed, and the sun shone through the branches, casting dappled spots of light. Everything seemed peaceful, but Qin Cang sensed an indescribable sense of danger. This feeling wasn't accidental; he had lived in this environment for too long, and his intuition told him that someone was observing them.
"Xiao Hu," Qin Cang spoke again, his tone firm, "You stay here, I'll go take a look."
Xiaohu's expression changed slightly, and he obviously didn't want Qin Cang to take the risk alone: "Brother, you have to be careful."
Qin Cang patted his shoulder and whispered, "Don't worry, I'm just going to take a look and try not to be discovered by the other party." After that, he turned around and walked silently towards the woods.
He walked slowly, taking every step carefully, afraid to make any sound. The surroundings were unusually quiet; even the birdsong seemed suppressed by the inexplicable atmosphere. Qin Cang's gaze was fixed on a corner of the woods, where a faint shadow seemed to linger. His heartbeat began to accelerate, and he felt a sense of oppression coming from all directions.
He approached slowly, almost holding his breath. Suddenly, his eyes lit up. Where he had thought there was only shadow, there was a figure. The figure flashed by, disappearing into the dense forest like a ghost.
Qin Cang stopped immediately, his eyes sharp. He had a vague feeling that this person was no ordinary passerby. Perhaps his appearance was not accidental, but was targeted at them.
"Who is it?" Qin Cang asked in a low voice, almost talking to himself.
He received no response, and the surroundings remained silent. Qin Cang's hand quietly reached for his waist, grasping the dagger he had hidden, his body immediately entering a state of high alert. He knew that danger was approaching. Those keen senses honed on the battlefield once again put him into combat readiness.
Without further hesitation, Qin Cang quickly walked to the edge of the woods, using the trees' shadows to conceal his presence. He stared wide-eyed, observing everything ahead. His heart beat faster and faster, almost as if he could hear it echoing in his ears. He knew he couldn't act rashly; he had to wait for the right opportunity.
Suddenly, a faint sound of footsteps came from the front. Qin Cang narrowed his eyes and became alert. Someone was approaching! He almost subconsciously took a step back and cleverly hid behind a large tree to avoid being exposed.
Not long after, a blurry figure appeared in Qin Cang's field of vision. The man was dressed in black and had a thin figure. He did not look like an ordinary passerby, but more like a hidden assassin or spy.
Qin Cang held his breath, his eyes fixed on the man's movements, and began to analyze calmly. For some reason, this man had a mysterious aura, as if he had some special purpose.
The man approached lightly and stopped in front of a big tree, as if waiting for something. Qin Cang observed carefully and saw that the man suddenly took out a small package from his arms and quickly opened it. There seemed to be something inside.
"Who sent this?" Qin Cang thought to himself, his eyes fixed on the man. Even though he was not completely sure of the other person's identity, his intuition told him that this person was definitely not simple.
At this moment, the man in black suddenly turned around and glanced around, as if he noticed something unusual. Qin Cang was shocked, knowing that the other party might have noticed him.
Without hesitation, he suddenly jumped out from his cover and quickly pounced on the man in black. The man in black obviously did not expect Qin Cang to appear here, and his movements were a little panicked, trying to retreat and avoid him.
However, Qin Cang's movements had already reached an extreme speed. His figure was close to the man in black almost in an instant. He quickly pinched the other's wrist and firmly controlled the other's movements.
The man in black tried to break free, but Qin Cang's strength far exceeded that of an ordinary person, and he almost clamped him. Seeing that the other party's movements were getting slower and slower, Qin Cang's eyes became colder: "Who are you? What are you doing here?"
The man in black obviously didn't intend to speak easily. He sneered and his eyes flashed with a provocative light: "Guess."
