Bright Sword: Conquer the monk at the beginning and take down Zhou Weiguo
Chapter 431: Surrounding Cover
Yet, Qin Cang's uneasiness lingered. His trust in Liu San remained unchanged, but he understood that in such a situation, any negligence could lead to fatal consequences. The enemy had not only laid traps on the ground, but also thoroughly suppressed them psychologically.
"We must find the enemy's true weakness." Qin Cang made up his mind, his eyes as sharp as a knife. The enemy's contempt, disdain, and even ridicule are all tests for them. The more so, the more it proves that behind the enemy's confidence is their bargaining chip. This game is far from over.
The air grew increasingly oppressive, and the rain gradually gave way to a fine drizzle, dripping onto the branches of the dense forest, seeping into every inch of soil and crack in the stone, as if the world was being submerged in the rain. Qin Cang's steps remained light and almost silent, but his sharp gaze scanned every blade of grass and tree around him for possible threats. Even so, his heart remained tense. With every step, he repeatedly replayed the situation in his mind for the next few seconds, not daring to slack off even for a moment.
After an unknown amount of time, an unusual commotion suddenly erupted in the distance. Initially a low, murmurous sound, it gradually grew clearer, interweaving into the sounds of intense combat. Qin Cang's heart leaped, a surge of unease rising instantly, his heartbeat seemingly accelerating involuntarily. He gripped his weapon tightly, leaned forward slightly, and prepared to quickly hide.
"Did you hear that?" Liu San's voice suddenly sounded in Qin Cang's ears, low and nervous.
"I heard it." Qin Cang's tone was extremely calm, but his inner vigilance had been completely released. He peered through the dense foliage, trying to grasp more information from the distant sound.
"Is it... a fight?" Liu San frowned slightly. "Why would someone start a fight at this time?"
"We have to go and take a look." Qin Cang said decisively without any intention of stopping, "It may be that there is an internal conflict among the enemies, or some other reason. We can't take it lightly."
Liu San nodded. Although he was filled with doubt, he knew Qin Cang's judgment was always correct, so he followed closely. The two of them carefully walked through the woods, trying to avoid any unnecessary sounds. Silent as ghosts, they quickly and accurately approached the source of the noise.
As the distance closed, Qin Cang's heartbeat quickened. He wasn't simply curious; he was more concerned about the potential chain reaction this fight would cause. He understood that every moment of the enemy's attention, every reaction, would affect their next move. The sounds of intense fighting grew clearer, punctuated by occasional groans of pain and the harsh sounds of collisions, as if foreshadowing a life-or-death struggle.
Finally, they quietly approached the source of the sound. Dappled light filtered through the trees, and Qin Cang's eyes quickly scanned the surroundings, scanning for the scene of battle. In the open space ahead, several figures were engaged in a fierce battle. One short, fat enemy was pinned to the ground by another tall, thin one, struggling desperately. Two or three others stood nearby, seemingly watching, occasionally whispering to each other. They seemed uninterested in the outcome of the battle, as if waiting for something.
"It's an internal fight among the enemies." Liu San whispered.
Qin Cang's eyes narrowed slightly, and he felt an inexplicable sense of relief. At least, the situation was much simpler than he had expected. He observed for a moment and found that the onlookers seemed unaware of their approach. As long as they kept quiet and didn't reveal their position, there was a chance they could take advantage of this chaos.
"Let's go over there." Qin Cang ordered in a low voice, his voice as light as a feather, with almost no fluctuations.
Liu San had no objection and continued to follow Qin Cang, moving swiftly but cautiously. The two of them skirted trees and rocks, gradually approaching the group of enemies.
As the distance closed, Qin Cang could see the details of the fight more clearly. The short, fat enemy was completely at a disadvantage. He struggled on the ground, seemingly trying to break free, but the tall, thin enemy had a firm grip on his shoulders, his other hand raised a sharp knife, ready to strike a fatal blow. The several enemies nearby were indifferent, as if they had no interest in the fight at all.
Suddenly, the short, fat enemy let out a deep roar. He struggled to break free, one hand resting on a nearby wooden stick. He lifted the stick and brought it down hard on the tall, thin enemy's head. The tall, thin enemy was caught off guard and fell to the ground with a scream. At this moment, Qin Cang's eyes lit up involuntarily.
"The opportunity has arrived." Qin Cang's eyes lit up and he whispered, "Let's take action. The bigger the noise, the better."
Liu San nodded. Although hesitant, he followed Qin Cang's steps and moved forward quickly. Qin Cang's eyes flashed with calmness and decisiveness. He knew that if he could create a bigger commotion in the chaos, he might be able to create a perfect breakthrough. The internal strife among the enemies gave them a rare opportunity.
Almost simultaneously, the two men leaped out from behind, rapidly approaching the onlookers. Without the slightest hesitation, Qin Cang, gripping the dagger in his right hand, mercilessly slashed across the neck of an enemy. The enemy showed no reaction, his eyes wide open, a moment of shock and disbelief before his death.
Liu San's movements were equally swift. Taking advantage of the surrounding cover, he quickly dispatched the second enemy before they could react. The sound of the blade slicing through skin was heavy and clear, like a bloody prelude to the moment. The remaining enemies didn't react immediately, seemingly still absorbed in the chaos before them, unaware of the threat they posed.
Qin Cang showed no mercy, striking swiftly and dispatching another enemy. Throughout, his movements were as swift and precise as flowing clouds, each strike striking directly at the vital points. Finally, the remaining enemy realized he had been taken by surprise, his expression changing dramatically as he hurriedly drew his sword, preparing to strike back.
However, Qin Cang didn't give him any time to react. He pounced forward, grabbed the enemy's wrist, and twisted it hard, making it lose resistance. Then he cut the enemy's throat with a knife. Blood gushed out like a fountain, instantly dyeing the surrounding soil red.
"Well done." Liu San patted Qin Cang's shoulder, his eyes showing some approval. "But, what should we do next?"
Qin Cang scanned the surrounding scene, his mood still uneasy. Even if they successfully eliminated the enemy before them, the chaos caused by this internal strife might not bring about the breakthrough they hoped for. The enemy's reaction speed was clearly faster than they had imagined.
