Bright Sword: Conquer the monk at the beginning and take down Zhou Weiguo
Chapter 304 Quietly Departing
But Qin Cang didn't follow immediately. He paused, his eyes lost in thought. The gun in his hand trembled slightly. At that moment, he seemed to hear the footsteps of his team members fading away, and also seemed to hear the enemy's hurried commands from afar. He knew that the success or failure of this operation depended entirely on his decision-making and the tacit cooperation of his team members.
"What's going on, Captain?" Liu San finally couldn't help it, and his voice came from behind with a hint of urgency.
Qin Cang didn't look back, but just said lightly: "Wait a moment."
At that moment, Liu San felt an inexplicable anxiety in his heart, but he still maintained the discipline that the team members must follow. He did not react at all, but just gritted his teeth and continued to ambush in front.
"Time is running out," Liu San thought to himself. Although the enemy had been temporarily held back, support and reinforcements would soon arrive. If they couldn't break through completely in the shortest possible time, they would be in great trouble.
The team members were already locked in a firefight, the sounds of gunfire and artillery intertwining in a cacophony. Liu San's heart kept telling him not to hesitate, not to retreat; only by continuing to advance could he have a chance of survival. Every time he tightened his grip on his weapon, a cold sweat broke out. He knew this battle wasn't just about life and death, but also about faith, the mission, and every brother who fought alongside him.
"Captain, the enemy's reinforcements are on the way. Can we execute them immediately?" A team member lying behind Qin Cang asked anxiously.
Qin Cang tilted his head slightly and looked at him. "Let's wait first. Their attack speed will not be that fast. We can't be too hasty and let ourselves be surrounded by the enemy."
The team members hesitated, but Qin Cang's eyes remained unchanged. In the end, he nodded and continued to wait patiently.
Those few brief seconds seemed like a crisscross of time and space, filled with a single individual's thoughts and judgments. Qin Cang knew full well that this choice would determine everyone's life or death. He began to silently deduce every shift in the battle, a chill rising in his heart. He knew that all decisions were irreversible, and if he missed an opportunity, he might never get another.
Just as he was about to take action again, he suddenly heard a sharp burst of gunfire, followed by the sound of footsteps. Qin Cang frowned slightly and suddenly raised his head. The team members' eyes began to become tense, and the whole air was filled with tension.
"The enemy is coming." Liu San whispered.
Qin Cang quickly led the team toward the planned retreat route, but his heart was filled with anxiety. Every step he took was as decisive as an arrow, and he quickly avoided the enemy patrol line, but the suppressed anxiety in his chest still lingered.
The team members' footsteps echoed, their faces filled with tension and exhaustion, but no one spoke, as if they were all waiting for Qin Cang's final instructions. The air was filled with the smell of smoke and dust, and the occasional explosions and gunfire in the distance made the entire night seem even more silent and tense.
"Captain, can we go back and support them?" a team member asked in a low voice, his voice full of anxiety.
Qin Cang stared straight ahead. Although he appeared calm on the surface, a huge wave of emotion was stirring inside him. He didn't answer immediately, but silently quickened his pace.
Liu San, he'd set off with Xiao Hu. This thought, like a sharp knife, stabbed Qin Cang's mind. He suddenly realized that Liu San's actions had been much earlier than planned—he had taken Xiao Hu and broken through the enemy's encirclement, attempting to complete the raid through a circuitous approach.
Qin Cang suddenly felt uneasy. Liu San wasn't a reckless person; every decision he made was carefully considered. Yet, this time, he had taken the initiative, acting ahead of the curve, as if in a moment of urgency.
"Xiao Hu..." Qin Cang's heart tightened. Although the young team member was young, he was already a backbone of the team. Liu San took him to carry out the mission, obviously to carry out a more secretive operation.
He remembered Xiaohu's eyes, full of vigor and hope, when he first joined the team. They were so much like his own youth. Qin Cang knew that this worry stemmed from his responsibility to his teammates. Every time he led the team on an expedition, he didn't want to see anyone die because of a decision he made. And this time, Liu San and Xiaohu had already entered a dangerous situation.
The team members had already sensed Qin Cang's mood changes. Although he didn't say anything, the sense of oppression still made everyone a little nervous. Everyone knew that the captain's silence was not without reason. Behind every silence was an impending storm.
"No, I have to go find them." Qin Cang finally said in a low voice, with a hint of determination in his eyes.
"Captain, do you want to...?" The team member hesitated, as if he couldn't believe his ears.
"Yes, I have to go and confirm it myself." Qin Cang didn't say anything more, his words were brief and powerful.
He turned and opened his backpack, quickly pulling out several grenades and spare rounds of ammunition. He then looked at the team member and said, "Continue to retreat. Leave some of you behind to cover the others. Buy me some time."
"I understand, Captain." The team member nodded immediately. Although he had many questions in his mind, he knew that as the captain, every decision made by Qin Cang could not be questioned.
Yet, Qin Cang's heart remained restless. Though he had resolved to find Liu San, his mind remained swirling with chaotic thoughts as he journeyed. Liu San was an experienced and composed commander, his judgment always sound. Why was he so impulsive this time? Qin Cang couldn't help but wonder. Perhaps the mission's difficulty had exceeded their expectations, or perhaps Liu San had foreseen a greater crisis.
"No more delay," Qin Cang whispered to himself. He knew every second meant life or death for his teammates, especially Liu San and Xiao Hu. In the distance, the sound of gunfire seemed to intensify, accompanied by fierce explosions. His steps became more determined, as if some irrepressible force within him pushed him forward.
However, he overlooked one point - Liu San and Xiaohu had already set off quietly and were walking very fast.
Meanwhile, Liu San and Xiao Hu had already entered the enemy's rear. Their figures, like ghosts in the night, left almost no trace. Their mission was to weaken the enemy's supply lines and disrupt their deployment plans. Despite the difficulties, Liu San remained remarkably calm.
