Chapter 177 The Heart is Full of Strength
Uncle Zhang, a fellow villager beside him, said indignantly: "These devils are truly unforgivable. How can we allow them to continue to run rampant on our land?"
Qin Cang's heart was filled with a wave of fear and anger brought by the war. He dropped his hoe and thought to himself, "Am I really going to stand by and watch? My home and my family are on this land. I can't let them suffer any longer!" He looked at Uncle Zhang and finally summoned the courage to say, "We can't wait any longer. We must act!"
A few days later, Qin Cang and Uncle Zhang gathered with the village youth to plan their resistance. At night, the bonfire flickered in the moonlight, illuminating the determination on everyone's face. They discussed how to gather intelligence and how to contact the guerrillas. An unyielding fighting spirit ignited within each of them, as if, at that moment, they were no longer ordinary farmers, but warriors shouldering a heavy responsibility.
In the days that followed, Qin Cang began his journey of resistance. He and the villagers formed a small resistance group, continuing to farm during the day and training and discussing at night. Fear and anxiety often accompanied him, especially in the dead of night. Qin Cang would often sit alone by the window, gazing at the stars and pondering the future. Would his family suffer further because of his choice? But he knew that if he did not resist, they would forever live under the enemy's rule.
By chance, Qin Cang came into contact with the guerrillas during a small-scale raid. In a dark cave, he first met the guerrilla leader, a tall young man with a steadfast gaze that seemed to see through all odds. The leader, Li Ming, smiled, but his words betrayed the cruelty of war: "We need more warriors. Villagers like you can provide us with vital information and support."
Hope ignited within Qin Cang, and he resolved to contribute his strength to this battle. Li Ming, seeing his resolute gaze, nodded, expressing his trust. In the days that followed, Qin Cang began to participate in even more intense battles. They attacked enemy supply lines and destroyed enemy transport vehicles. Although each action was fraught with danger, their conviction grew stronger.
As time went by, the frequency of battles brought subtle changes to Qin Cang's heart. He once felt immense fear in the face of the enemy, but now, his heart was filled with only the desire for victory and the responsibility to his homeland. During a raid, he witnessed the sacrifice of his comrades, and a sharp pain pierced his heart, as if time had stood still at that moment.
"We can't let their sacrifice be in vain!" Qin Cang shouted to the surviving team members after the battle. His voice was firm, as if it could shake everyone. He knew that only by continuing to fight could the souls of those who sacrificed their lives no longer feel alone.
However, the brutality of battle isn't always remembered; instead, it leaves a lingering shadow. Qin Cang began to suffer nightmares, constantly returning to his village, seeing the once peaceful place consumed by flames of war, and the helpless faces of his loved ones looming before him. He tried to mask his inner fear with a strong exterior, but before each action, the pounding of his heart reminded him that the price of this battle could be his life.
During a crucial mission, Qin Cang and his team needed to infiltrate an enemy camp and obtain confidential intelligence. Before the operation, Qin Cang clenched his fists, silently repeating, "For my homeland, for my loved ones, I must not retreat!" As night deepened, they crept toward the enemy camp. In the darkness, Qin Cang could hear his companions breathing, a tense feeling woven between life and death.
Suddenly, a gunshot shattered the stillness of the night, sending the entire camp into a state of alert. Qin Cang's heart raced, realizing things were getting out of control. He shoved his companions, signaling them to retreat, but they were spotted and a hail of bullets poured down. His ears filled with the cries of his comrades, who fell one after another around him, as if time had frozen in that moment.
"Hurry!" Li Ming's voice resounded like thunder. Qin Cang came back to his senses, his heart tightening, and he ran forward desperately. During the escape, he felt countless pairs of eyes staring at him, as if that was all his life had ever known. The moment he left the camp, his heart was filled with regret and pain, but he knew that he had to survive in order to continue all this.
Returning to the village, Qin Cang felt a heavy heart. The brutality of the battle had taught him the fragility and preciousness of life. He began to reflect on his choices, wondering if they were truly worth it. But when he saw the villagers still striving for their lives, their faces filled with sorrow, yet their determined eyes rekindled his fighting spirit. He understood that everything he did was not just for the fight, but also to get his life back on track.
Months later, the battle continued, the enemy becoming more cunning and brutal, yet Qin Cang's heart grew stronger. He continued to grow through the actions, gradually becoming a core figure in the resistance group. With each victory, he and his companions felt the power of unity, and the fear in their hearts was gradually replaced by courage.
However, war never brings peace. After a raid, Qin Cang was injured and forced to temporarily withdraw from action. While recuperating at home, he often pondered the meaning of combat. Looking out the window, the sun shone through the clouds, seeming to foreshadow hope for the future. His family was by his side, and the chores of life continued as usual, yet he felt a constant unease, as if it were a reminder of his unfulfilled responsibilities.
After several weeks of rest, Qin Cang's injuries gradually healed, but his thirst for battle only grew stronger. He rejoined his group and, upon seeing his teammates, felt a long-lost warmth. His comrades patted him on the shoulder in a gesture of welcome. They shared their recent victories and excitedly discussed how to further defeat the enemy. Qin Cang's heart was filled with strength, as if he had returned to his brave self.
Just then, news arrived that the enemy was about to launch a large-scale attack on the village, and the atmosphere in the entire group suddenly became tense. Qin Cang gathered everyone's attention and carefully analyzed the enemy's movements: "We must prepare in advance and use the terrain to launch a counterattack!"
The team members listened intently, a tense atmosphere in the air. Everyone realized that this could be a life-or-death battle. As the plan was formulated, Qin Cang's anxiety gradually subsided, replaced by a sense of responsibility. He knew that only by unity could they overcome the difficulties at hand.
