Chapter 77 Exploration
Gu Yunzhou has every reason to doubt that this so-called 'simple' assessment is definitely not simple at all. Judging from the situation, it is probably three times more difficult than the ordinary assessment!
After looking at Xie Guanguan who was resting with her eyes closed, Gu Yunzhou walked towards the building deep in the woods without hesitation. Xie Guanguan on the tree opened her eyes and looked, then closed them again, but the smile of anticipation at the corner of her mouth was so obvious.
It was only when Gu Yunzhou reached the building that he truly realized its enormous size. From the outside, the building appeared to stretch endlessly into the distance. However, its true size was not easily discernible due to the trees obscuring it.
The entire complex formed a giant "U" shape, giving off a mysterious and solemn vibe. Gu Yunzhou gently pushed open the front door and walked inside. What came into view were rows of neatly arranged, identical-looking houses.
The houses were all identical in color and shape, and one could easily get lost among them if they weren't careful. Gu Yunzhou knocked on the door to announce his arrival, but received no response. So, he cautiously pushed the door open and walked in. Once inside, the surroundings were as quiet as ever, as if nothing else existed except the sound of his own breathing.
With a thud, the door they had just entered slammed shut. Gu Yunzhou instinctively turned to look, only to see the previously silent space begin to crackle, as if some mechanism had been activated. He immediately took notice and was surprised to discover that the previously identical buildings had begun to shift position, and with them, the terrain itself.
The clearing where Gu Yunzhou had originally stood had changed, revealing a new path. He didn't dare hesitate, and moved towards the newly revealed space. The change had occurred abruptly, and ended just as suddenly. When everything returned to calm, Gu Yunzhou looked back, but the gate he had come from was gone.
At this time, a vague and indistinguishable voice sounded from nowhere: "The challenger only needs to walk out of here within one hour to be considered successful!" The voice seemed to come from all directions, making it difficult to determine its exact source.
Gu Yunzhou was speechless. Wasn't this just another-worldly maze? However, he quickly realized that things weren't that simple. After all, this was a test for the Academy of Arts; it couldn't be just another maze. He had to be careful, finding a way out while remaining vigilant to potential dangers.
Gu Yunzhou calmed down, a surge of excitement and anticipation welling up in his heart. He began to carefully observe his surroundings, noticing that the houses were stacked one on top of the other, the walls tightly connected, seemingly stretching endlessly. He decided to explore around first.
He walked to a towering wall and, with a light leap, attempted to climb to the top to observe the situation outside. He had to admit, the influx of Wen Qi into his body was truly miraculous! He simply mobilized the faint trace of Wen Qi in his Wen Palace, and his body became light and agile, like a hero in a martial arts drama.
However, beautiful imaginations are always far from reality. When he was about to reach the top of the wall, a huge force suddenly hit him and knocked him back to the ground without any warning.
"As expected, it's not that easy!" Gu Yunzhou said, rubbing his palms. In fact, the attempt just now was just a test, so he was not too surprised. After all, if it were really that simple, they wouldn't have spent so much effort to build this place. When he came in, the smile that flashed across Xie Wanwan's lips did not escape his eyes.
Since there was no way to get through from above, he could only honestly look for a breakthrough from the ground. So he began to observe the surrounding environment, and helplessly found that he could only enter the house in front of him, then go out from the back door of the house, and then pass through the wall before he could continue forward.
Gu Yunzhou cautiously approached the door closest to him and pushed it gently. Surprisingly, it was unlocked. As the door slowly opened, a strange aroma filled his nose. Startled, Gu Yunzhou immediately realized something was wrong and quickly retreated, sealing his mouth and nose.
He stood quietly outside the door, waiting for two or three minutes, carefully feeling his body for any discomfort. After confirming that there was nothing wrong, he cautiously stepped into the room again.
When I entered the room again, the scene had changed. I saw smoke rising from the kitchen and the aroma of food coming from somewhere in the house. From time to time, I could hear faint conversations.
Gu Yunzhou frowned slightly, raised his voice slightly, and called out again, but this time, there was still no response. Furthermore, the originally faint conversation seemed to become more intense, as if two people were arguing.
Gu Yunzhou no longer hesitated and walked towards the direction of the sound. He walked through the front yard and came to the corner of the backyard. He saw a half-open kitchen with the sound of an argument coming from it. He walked closer and found an old woman constantly scolding a numb woman.
The old woman cursed and reached out to pinch the other woman's arms and waist. The woman seemed very frightened and could only take a step back timidly, but the old woman still grabbed her and continued to curse and pinch her.
"Why would our Zhang family marry a hen like you who doesn't lay eggs? Tell me yourself, how many years have we been married? And you haven't even had a single child! If I had known, I shouldn't have let you in! Poor Qing'er, being pointed at and scolded for being childless!"
The more the old woman scolded, the angrier she became. She felt that pinching her with her hands was no longer enough to vent her anger, so she glanced at the firewood stick in front of the stove. She grabbed the firewood stick and hit the woman without hesitation.
The woman was beaten so hard that she screamed and wailed, but she still insisted, "Mom, please, give me another chance! I will definitely give birth to a big fat boy for the Zhang family! The doctor said that there is nothing serious wrong with my body, I just need to take good care of myself!"
Hearing this, the old woman was even more furious. She widened her eyes and roared angrily: "Recover? After all these years, you still can't recover? I think you are a hen that doesn't lay eggs!" As she said that, she raised the firewood stick and continued to hit him hard.
The woman finally couldn't bear it anymore. She hugged the old woman's thighs and burst into tears. As she cried, she begged the old woman for forgiveness. However, the old woman remained unmoved and continued to beat the woman with the stick in her hand.
