Chapter 3 The Gu family

Gu Yunzhou lay in bed for several more days before he was able to slowly get out of bed. During these days, he went from his initial excitement to calmness. When he was bored, he would silently read the articles he learned in Gu Family Studies in his mind.

The silent reading these days was not without benefits. After reciting the books for the past two days, he gained new insights, and occasionally had sudden realizations.

It was half a month later when he was able to walk to the clan school. During this period, the Gu family did not send anyone over. They probably did not care about the thoughts of a disciple who was about to be out of the fifth generation. So what if Gu Tianhua hit him? Could he fight back?

In this world, only strength is the hard truth. This is the first truth Gu Yunzhou learned after coming here.

"Brother Yun, why don't you wait a few days before going to the clan school? Your health is just fine!" Early in the morning, Qin brought over a bowl of multi-grain porridge and pickles for breakfast, and looked at her son with a little worry. He had become much more silent since he woke up.

"Mother, I'm all better now. Don't worry, if you feel unwell, I will ask for leave from the teacher. The provincial examination is coming soon, and I can't delay any longer!"

After a few days of sorting out his thoughts, Gu Yunzhou has completely integrated into this identity. He has a clear plan for the future. He will first increase his strength, and then take revenge if he has grievances or grudges. He is a very vindictive person.

"Okay, if you feel uncomfortable, remember not to force yourself. I'll go to work first!" Qin was worried when she heard him say that, but she also knew that the provincial examination was the top priority, so she stopped trying to dissuade him. She just gave him a few more instructions and then hurried towards the Gu family mansion.

She is a kitchen helper in the Gu family's second-class kitchen. She has taken a long leave recently because of an accident involving her only son. If she doesn't go back, this job that she has worked so hard to get will be in jeopardy, so she can't delay any longer.

After finishing his breakfast, Gu Yunzhou took the cloth bag containing books, pens and ink, and then headed towards the Gu clan school in his memory.

The Gu clan school is located on Qianmen Street, which is considered the most bustling and prosperous street in the entire Liuyun Town. The reason why the clan school is set up here is because it is located in the Gu residence.

It is said that the Gu family is not very promising. It is rumored that Grandpa Gu had two sons and one daughter. This one is the youngest son. The other eldest son is extremely talented and works in the court. It is said that he is doing well. What makes people talk about more is Grandpa Gu’s eldest grandson - Gu Tianchao!

Gu Tianchao is twenty-one years old this year. He is studying at Tiandu Academy in the imperial capital, which is one of the best academies in the entire Beichen Kingdom. Those who can pass the entrance exam are all gifted. Not to mention that Gu Tianchao once killed a 7th-rank barbarian alone. You should know that this 7th-rank barbarian corresponds to a 7th-rank scholar of the human race.

After passing the provincial examination and introducing literary energy into the body, one becomes a 10th-grade student, the lowest and most numerous. The next levels of advancement are 9th-grade bachelor, 8th-grade scholar, 7th-grade scholar, 6th-grade Confucian scholar, 5th-grade Confucian scholar, 4th-grade great Confucian scholar, 3rd-grade virtual saint, 2nd-grade semi-saint, and 1st-grade saint who has been extinct on the Tianxing Continent for many years.

Gu Yunzhou looked around curiously along the way, and once again truly felt that he had come to a different world. The streets were crowded with people, and although it was morning, it was still very lively.

The Gu residence stood at the end of the street. A doorman stood at the door, talking to a vendor nearby with his head down.

"Go away, go away! Who told you to set up a stall here? Do you know the rules? The Gu family school will start classes soon. If you offend the young masters and young ladies, you will have several lives to live. Get out of here!" He said while pushing a woman carrying a bamboo basket.

"Young man, please be kind and I will stay on the opposite side and will definitely not disturb you!" The woman kept saying nice things and apologized carefully.

"You don't understand what I'm saying, right? I'm letting you run wild here!" The doorman was a middle-aged man in his thirties. He pushed the woman hard with great strength, snatched her bamboo basket and kicked it several times, smashing it to pieces while cursing.

Gu Yunzhou stopped and saw that the fresh mangosteen and wild vegetables in the bamboo basket were crushed to pieces. The doorman was still not satisfied, so he kicked the already broken bamboo basket away and walked away.

"Wow, these are the bamboo shoots I dug in the mountains early in the morning. My child is sick and I have no money to buy medicine. I was thinking of exchanging them for some money for medicine, but now what should I do?" The woman burst into tears. The people around her saw that the gatehouse had already walked away, and then they dared to come closer.

"Big sister, you'd better leave quickly. If the nobleman comes out and sees you crying here, you'll be in danger!"

"Yeah, how dare you sell things in front of the Gu residence? This gatekeeper is in a good mood today. Last time, an old man selling candied haws was selling on the corner, and he beat him up badly on the pretext that he was hawking in front of the Gu residence and disturbing the young masters and young ladies from studying!"

"This Gu family is too overbearing. This woman is clearly selling things across the street, so far away from the gate!"

The people were talking about it and persuading the woman to leave quickly. After all, they were ordinary people, and anyone who dared to provoke the Gu family would only blame themselves for their bad luck.

Gu Yunzhou's eyes were gloomy. He walked up to the doorman and saw Gu Yunzhou. The doorman just glanced at him coldly and ignored him at all. Of course he knew Gu Yunzhou. He was a poor relative of the Gu family who was almost out of the fifth degree of kinship. He was lucky enough to have a good surname, so he could enter the Gu clan school to study.

In his line of work, it's normal to treat people differently based on their needs. If Gu Yunzhou's surname wasn't Gu, he wouldn't even be qualified to step into the Gu Mansion.

Of course, Gu Yunzhou noticed the change in the doorman's eyes. He walked over without any care and whispered a few words in his ear. The doorman's face kept changing. Finally, he gritted his teeth, looked at Gu Yunzhou sinisterly, and then reluctantly walked to the woman who stood up to leave, threw down some change, and returned to the gate cursing.

At this time, Gu Yunzhou had already walked into the Gu residence, leaving behind only the confused woman and the equally puzzled onlookers. The doorman had unexpectedly changed his nature today and even offered compensation.

Although the woman was puzzled, she knew that it was change for her, so she quickly picked up the change from the ground, turned around and walked towards the clinic, expressing her gratitude profusely.

"The Gu family is really arrogant. A doorman dares to bully the people at will!" The crowd dispersed, and only two young men were left. At this time, a man in green clothes spoke, his tone full of emotion.

"Be careful with your words. This isn't Jinzhou. The Gu family is powerful in the imperial court. Gu Tianchao now worships that person as his teacher. His father is a genuine fourth-rank scholar. It is said that he has the hope of breaking through to the third-rank virtual saint. If they hear this, I won't be able to protect you!"
