Traveling through time to cultivate immortality: a life and death test
Chapter 16 Intelligence
Liu Xing made several more copies of the real intelligence, keeping one for himself and preparing to have someone deliver the others. He knew Dongfang Hao wouldn't place any hope in him and would undoubtedly have other spies infiltrating. His only task now was to find these spies, at least some of them. To ensure safety, he didn't move quickly, believing the others would have already arrived. So he focused on searching for the spies from the Misty Rain Pavilion. After a day and a night of careful screening, he finally found three. One had infiltrated through the manure vent and was currently hiding in the toilet, waiting for an opportunity to strike. An elderly farmer delivering vegetables, disguised by his appearance, was carefully observing the situation in the village, trying to memorize it. And a highly skilled spy had captured a small enemy leader, who was hiding in a remote area and was torturing him, hoping to extract information.
Liu Xing spent another day approaching each of the spies, revealing his identity and informing them that there was a traitor within the Misty Rain Pavilion, urging them to be cautious. He then handed them intelligence and instructed them to take it back quickly. The information he gave to the vegetable farmer was false, forcing him to personally deliver it to the Pavilion Master, and to keep it within his sight. He gave the real information to "Brother Paofen" and "The Great Master," posing as postmen and delivering it to the young lady as a letter, who would understand what to do after reading it. The three spies were initially dismissive of Liu Xing, a twelve or thirteen-year-old, but were astounded by the detailed intelligence. They instantly realized they had encountered a true master, and each one immediately obeyed his orders. Once Liu Xing realized that the three spies had successfully left the water stronghold, he felt relieved and continued to lurk in the mourning hall, keeping a close eye on the actions and words of Gang Leader Wu.
Three days later, he discovered that the Wu Gang leader had received a letter via pigeon that read, "Information has been delivered, act according to the plan." He then guessed that false information from the vegetable farmers or other spies had been delivered to the leader, and that this was information fed back by the traitor.
Dongfang Qing had been feeling restless for the past few days, often staring blankly at Liu Xing's yard, sometimes even smiling foolishly. Before, when Liu Xing was there every day, she hadn't thought much of it, but now that he was gone to the front lines, she was worried and yearning. She couldn't shake off the image of Liu Xing's back as he shielded her from arrows, fought the men in black, and the elegant manner in which he played the flute. Dongfang Qing was utterly annoyed, unsure of what was wrong with her. She wanted to see Liu Xing right away, but she didn't know why.
At this time, the guard said that a postman had delivered a letter to her, and she met the postman nonchalantly.
"A young man named Liu said he missed you and asked me to deliver a letter to you." The postman said, handing the letter to Dongfang Qing.
Dongfang Qing opened the envelope and took a glance at it. He stood up in shock and was about to ask something, but seemed to remember something, so he quietly put the letter away.
"Come with me, I have something to ask you. Xiao Zi, please help me get a hundred taels of silver. I want to reward the postman."
The postman followed Dongfang Qing into the inner hall, closed the door, and opened the letter to examine it carefully. It showed a picture of a handsome young man playing the flute, and it was none other than Liu Xing. Dongfang Qing laughed and cursed, "You fool!" Suddenly, he felt something was wrong and looked at the postman with a questioning look.
"I am a spy sent by the Pavilion Master. When I arrived, Master Liu had already given me a detailed account of the intelligence, saying that there was a traitor in the Pavilion and ordered me to hand the information over to the young lady." The postman spoke quickly in a low voice.
"How is Mr. Liu doing now? Is he in danger?" Dongfang Qing seemed to be more concerned about Mr. Liu's safety.
"Mr. Liu is extremely powerful. It's no big deal for him to stay in the enemy camp and keep an eye on them." The postman was surprised that the young lady didn't pay attention to the point, but he still replied honestly.
At this time, Xiao Zi brought the silver over. Dongfang Qing put the letter away and put it in his arms. He ordered Xiao Zi to give the silver to the postman and send him away.
"Xiao Zi, come with me to visit mother and see if she is feeling better after taking the medicine." Dongfang Qing arranged, then picked up a lunch box and took Xiao Zi to find her mother.
After taking the 200-year-old ginseng, Mrs. Dongfang looked much better. Her face had a rosy complexion, making her look younger. Dongfang Qing came over and threw herself into her mother's arms, acting like a spoiled child. However, no one noticed that the moment she threw herself into her mother's arms, she stuffed the letter in her arms into her mother's arms and whispered the word "traitor" in her mother's ear. Then she loudly complained to her mother that she wouldn't let her go out to play, saying that she was almost suffocating. As the wife of the Pavilion Master, she was no ordinary person. She remained calm and just comforted her daughter. Her behavior was no different from that between ordinary mother and daughter, and outsiders could not see anything unusual. After a long time of tossing and turning, Dongfang Qing finally left with Xiao Zi.
Mrs. Dongfang continued to do her needlework without making any unusual movements. The whole afternoon passed like this, and it was getting dark. "Lan'er, go see why the master hasn't come back yet. It's time for dinner." Lan'er responded and went out.
Dongfang Hao was secretly discussing intelligence and troop deployments with his superiors when he heard his wife calling for dinner. He looked up, saw that it was indeed getting late, and stopped the meeting to discuss it tomorrow. His wife had been feeling much better recently, and he was happy too, feeling a second spring in his life. He spent every day with her, enjoying her company.
After their lovemaking, the couple were completely satisfied, and no one bothered them anymore. The wife pulled out a letter and handed it to Dongfang Hao, who looked at her in confusion. He opened the blueprint and was immediately shocked. It was clearly an intelligence map of Wushui Village, ten times more detailed than his previous intelligence. A quick comparison revealed the previous intelligence to be a false trap. Dongfang Hao broke out in a cold sweat. If he followed the previous intelligence and made an attack plan, Yanyu Pavilion would be severely damaged, and he would become the culprit of Yanyu Pavilion.
"Qing'er sent it secretly today, saying there is a traitor." The lady added in time.
Dongfang Hao looked at Liu Xing's narcissistic portrait on the blueprint and instantly understood that Liu Xing had discovered a traitor in Yanyu Pavilion and had made these arrangements. Dongfang Hao knew that anyone around him, except for his family, was now suspicious. He had to find this traitor, but now was not the time to do so. He had to use the same tactics against the enemy, ostensibly following the false intelligence but actually making arrangements based on the real information. Liu Xing had not returned, but had sent the information out, presumably to stay and keep watch. Dongfang Hao was, after all, a local hero, and his strategic planning skills were first-rate. This information could not be shared with anyone else, lest it be discovered by the traitor.
"This kid really surprised me." Dongfang Hao said admiringly.
"He is indeed a handsome man." The lady also agreed.
The couple smiled at each other, both guessing what the other was thinking. Seeing his gorgeous wife beside him, Dongfang Hao regained his composure and pounced on her.
Just one day later, Dongfang Qing received another piece of information from another postman, and found the content to be the same. She then told the postman that she had already received his letter and asked him not to send any more, saying she had no interest in him. Then she threw the letter into the brazier and watched it burn to ashes. Inwardly, she thought, "Master Liu is truly meticulous, sending multiple people to deliver the information to ensure it's foolproof."
