Love and choices across time and space
Chapter 55 Family Approval
The spring sun gently shone on the Lin family's magnificent villa, gilding the white walls with a warm golden edge. In the garden surrounding the villa, a variety of flowers competed for beauty and emitted bursts of fragrance.
In the living room, Father Lin sat on the expensive leather sofa, his brows slightly furrowed. He held a newspaper in his hand, but his eyes weren't focused on the words. His mind was clearly not on the newspaper, but on his daughter, Lin Wan'er's, new relationship.
Lin's mother, on the other hand, was meticulously arranging an exquisite tea set at a nearby tea table. She was wearing a lavender silk cheongsam embroidered with delicate floral patterns, her hair neatly tied back with a jade hairpin, exuding an elegant demeanor.
"Old man, do you think that Su Ran, whom Wan'er found this time, is reliable?" Mother Lin asked softly while pouring tea.
Father Lin put down the newspaper, sighed, and said, "It's hard to say. I hope he really wants to be good to Wan'er."
At this moment, the doorbell suddenly rang. Mother Lin got up to open the door. When the door opened, Lin Wan'er and Su Ran appeared at the door.
Lin Wan'er was wearing a pink dress today with delicate lace embroidered on the hem. Her hair fell softly on her shoulders and her face was filled with a happy smile.
Su Ran, dressed in a well-tailored grey suit, a light blue shirt, and a dark blue tie, looked tall and straight. He was carrying some carefully selected gifts, his eyes revealing a hint of nervousness and anticipation.
"Dad, Mom, we're here." Lin Wan'er said happily.
"Hello, uncle and aunt." Su Ran greeted politely.
Father Lin nodded slightly and motioned them to come in.
Walking into the living room, Su Ran handed the gift to Lin's mother and said, "Auntie, this is a little gift for you and uncle."
Mother Lin took the gift and said with a smile: "Come here, why bring a gift? Come and sit down."
Everyone sat down on the sofa, and the atmosphere was subtly awkward for a moment.
Father Lin was the first to break the silence. He cleared his throat and asked, "Su Ran, I heard that you work for a well-known company?"
Su Ran straightened up and replied, "Yes, uncle. I am in charge of the research and development of an important project in the company, and it is progressing smoothly."
Father Lin narrowed his eyes slightly and continued to ask, "So what's your career plan? You can't just stay where you are, right?"
Su Ran answered without hesitation, "Uncle, I've always had a clear goal. I hope to be promoted to management within the next few years and lead the team to achieve more impactful results. At the same time, I'm constantly learning and improving myself, preparing to pursue a higher degree to lay a more solid foundation for future development."
After hearing this, Mr. Lin's expression eased slightly.
Seeing this, Lin's mother smiled and interrupted, "Hey, don't just talk about work, Su Ran, what are your hobbies?"
Su Ran smiled and said, "Auntie, I like reading, especially books on history and philosophy. I think the wisdom I gain from them can be applied to my life and work. I also like sports and play basketball several times a week to keep fit."
Lin Wan'er added, "Mom, Su Ran can draw, and she draws really well."
Su Ran scratched his head a little embarrassedly: "Wan'er, you're too kind. It's just my hobby, I just draw casually."
A hint of surprise flashed in Lin's mother's eyes: "Really? Then you must show it to us if you have the chance."
As they were talking, the nanny came over to announce that lunch was ready. Everyone moved to the dining room, where the table was filled with sumptuous dishes.
"Su Ran, don't be polite, eat more." Lin's mother greeted warmly.
Su Ran responded politely: "Thank you, Auntie, this dish looks delicious."
During the meal, Su Ran always behaved politely, picking up dishes and serving soup to Lin's father and mother, showing his attentiveness and consideration.
After dinner, Father Lin called Su Ran to the study. The study was filled with a faint scent of sandalwood, and the bookshelves were filled with various books.
Father Lin sat behind the large mahogany desk, looking at Su Ran with a serious expression: "Su Ran, Wan'er is my only daughter. We have spoiled her since she was a child and she has never suffered any grievances. I hope you can treat her well and give her a happy future."
Su Ran stood straight, her eyes firm as she spoke, "Uncle, don't worry. My feelings for Wan'er are genuine. I'm willing to spend my whole life protecting her and preventing her from any harm."
Father Lin was silent for a moment, then slowly said: "Okay, I hope you can do what you say."
Coming out of the study, Su Ran breathed a sigh of relief. Lin Wan'er came up to him and asked with concern, "How is it? What did my dad say to you?"
Su Ran smiled and held her hand: "Nothing, just some concern and instructions, don't worry."
In the following days, Su Ran appeared at the Lin family's house more frequently. He would play chess with Lin's father. Although Lin's father was a master at chess, Su Ran was no less skilled. The two of them would often fight to a standstill on the chessboard.
Once, when Father Lin was hesitant in a critical situation, Su Ran made a clever suggestion at the right time, which made Father Lin's eyes light up and finally won the game.
"Not bad, not bad, Su Ran, you are quite capable." Father Lin said with a smile.
Lin's mother liked to drag Su Ran along to discuss family matters. She would tell Su Ran about the interesting things that happened when Lin Wan'er was a child, and Su Ran always listened with great interest, and from time to time she would express some caring feelings.
"Auntie, Wan'er has been so cute since she was a child. No wonder you and uncle love her so much."
Gradually, Lin's father and mother became more and more friendly and satisfied with Su Ran.
One weekend afternoon, Lin Wan'er accidentally sprained her ankle. When Su Ran learned about it, she rushed to the Lin family's house immediately.
As soon as he entered the room, he anxiously asked, "Wan'er, how are you? Are you in pain?"
Seeing his nervous look, Lin Wan'er felt warm in her heart: "Thankfully, you're here, so it doesn't hurt too much."
Su Ran carefully carried Lin Wan'er to the sofa, then took out an ice pack to apply cold compress to her, his movements gentle and skillful.
Lin's father and mother watched from the side, their eyes full of relief.
"This child is so thoughtful." Lin's mother said softly.
Father Lin also nodded slightly to show his approval.
Some time later, the Lin family held a grand birthday party. Relatives and friends gathered together, and the party was very lively.
Su Ran behaved generously and appropriately at the party, getting along well with everyone. His humor filled the scene with laughter.
"Wan'er, your boyfriend is really good." Relatives praised Lin Wan'er one after another.
When Mr. and Mrs. Lin heard these compliments, their faces were filled with proud smiles.
After the party, Lin's father and mother called Lin Wan'er and Su Ran to the living room.
Father Lin had a gentle smile on his face and said, "Su Ran, after spending some time together, we are very satisfied with you. We agree with you and Wan'er."
Mother Lin also took Lin Wan'er's hand and said, "Yes, you should live a good life and take care of each other in the future."
Su Ran said excitedly, "Uncle and aunt, thank you for your recognition. I will definitely not let you down."
Lin Wan'er's eyes sparkled with tears of happiness: "Dad, Mom, thank you."
From then on, Lin's parents began to actively plan for Lin Wan'er and Su Ran's future. They discussed the details of the wedding, including the choice of venue, the style of the wedding, the guest list, and so on.
In the bridal shop, Lin Wan'er tried on one exquisite wedding dress after another.
"How about this one?" Lin Wan'er walked out of the fitting room wearing a gorgeous wedding dress with a long train, like a noble princess.
Su Ran stared at her intently and exclaimed, "You are so beautiful, Wan'er. You look like a bride from a fairy tale."
Mother Lin also nodded and said, "This one is indeed very beautiful, but let's take a look at the others. Maybe there will be something more suitable."
In the end, Lin Wan'er chose a simple and elegant wedding dress, which was embellished with delicate pearls and lace, showing her gentle temperament.
The choice of hotel was also a matter of great thought. They looked at several hotels, comparing factors such as venue size, decoration style, and food quality, and finally settled on a luxurious five-star hotel.
When finalizing the guest list, Lin's father and mother carefully considered the relationship of every relative and friend to ensure that no important person would be missed.
Although the wedding preparations were busy and hard, Su Ran and Lin Wan'er were always full of anticipation and happiness.
One day, Su Ran brought Lin Wan'er to a seaside resort.
"Wan'er, you have worked hard during this period. Let's come here to relax." Su Ran said.
Lin Wan'er smiled happily: "Thank you, Su Ran."
They strolled along the beach, enjoying the sea breeze and the warmth of the sun.
"Wan'er, I'm really looking forward to our wedding. It will be the best moment in our lives." Su Ran said affectionately.
Lin Wan'er leaned on Su Ran's shoulder: "Me too, as long as you are by my side, I am not afraid of anything."
As the wedding day draws closer, Lin Wan'er and Su Ran become more and more excited.
Finally, the wedding day arrived. The wedding scene was decorated like a dream, with flowers and ribbons fluttering.
Lin Wan'er was in the dressing room, and the makeup artist was doing the final touches on her makeup.
"Ms. Wan'er, you look so beautiful today." The makeup artist exclaimed.
Lin Wan'er looked at herself in the mirror, her heart filled with happiness and anticipation.
On the other side, Su Ran, accompanied by his best men, was nervously waiting for the wedding to begin.
"Su Ran, don't be nervous, you are the protagonist today." The groomsmen joked.
Su Ran took a deep breath and said, "I'm not nervous, I just can't wait to see Wan'er."
As the wedding music began, Lin Wan'er, holding her father's arm, slowly walked towards Su Ran. Her wedding dress shone brightly under the lights, and her smile was like the most beautiful flower in spring.
There was only Lin Wan'er in Su Ran's eyes. His heart beat faster, as if there were only the two of them left in the whole world.
"Dad, don't worry and leave Wan'er to me. I will make her happy." Su Ran took Lin Wan'er's hand from Lin's father, his voice firm and affectionate.
Tears welled up in Lin's father's eyes and he nodded: "Okay, take good care of her."
At the wedding ceremony, Lin Wan'er and Su Ran made eternal vows to each other and exchanged rings.
"I am willing to stay by your side forever, no matter the weather, and never leave you." Su Ran said.
"I am also willing to walk hand in hand with you for the rest of my life, forever." Lin Wan'er said.
The guests applauded and congratulated one after another, and the scene was filled with a happy and warm atmosphere.
After the wedding, Lin Wan'er and Su Ran embarked on their honeymoon. They came to a picturesque island and enjoyed a leisurely time.
On the island, they watched the sunrise and sunset together, strolled on the beach together, and tasted local delicacies together.
"Wan'er, this is the best time of my life." Su Ran said.
Lin Wan'er smiled and said, "Me too. I hope we can always be this happy."
After their honeymoon, Lin Wan'er and Su Ran returned to their daily lives and began to face the challenges and responsibilities of life together.
Not long after, Lin Wan'er discovered that she was pregnant, and this news filled the whole family with joy and anticipation.
