Stealing the moonlight into my arms

Chapter 7 I won’t give you a penny when we divorce

Hospital, inpatient department, oncology department.

Fu Runing has always been a coward. She sat in the office listening to the attending physician and Xiao Jingting talking, her fingertips were cold.

Three years ago, Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in the late stage, but the treatment was very effective, so effective that she even felt that Dad would stay with her in good health for a long, long time.

But half a year ago, brain metastasis was detected.

She was always trembling with fear when waiting to hear the results of the treatment.

I was afraid that I would have to talk to her every time and ask her to be mentally prepared.

Fortunately, not yet.

The conversation ended and the doctor asked her to sign as per the usual practice.

Fu Runing's hand was shaking slightly as she picked up the pen, as if she couldn't write and couldn't put the pen to paper.

A deep male voice came from the side, "I'll do it."

Xiao Jingting took the pen from her and signed his name in the family signature column.

Fu Runing was stunned.

Everyone around her said that she had married well and that it was a blessing for their family.

Which son-in-law would be so devoted and filial to his father-in-law?

When my father was receiving treatment, Xiao Jingting often came to the hospital to see him. When the families of other patients saw him, they would say that this son-in-law was more filial than his own son. My father also had a good attitude and would happily say that this was his son.

Walk out of the doctor's office.

The oncology department is always filled with a calm and quiet desolation.

The corridor was empty.

Xiao Jingting was walking in front of her. She stopped and reached out to gently pull the cuff of the man's suit.

"how?"

He looked back at her, his voice light.

Fu Runing's eyelashes drooped, and the corners of her eyes drooped, making her look dejected. She had completely lost the eloquent attitude she had in the morning when she wanted to divorce him.

She opened her lips and whispered, "Thank you."

Xiao Jingting didn't respond or express his opinion.

Fu Runing looked towards the ward at the end of the corridor, then took a deep breath and took his arm.

This was her usual way of pleasing him.

Xiao Jingting lowered his eyes and looked at her white hands, and the emotion between his brows relaxed a little.

He said calmly, "It's good that you know you were wrong. Don't do it again."

I knew Fu Runing would never be willing to divorce him. Who was she trying to show off by making such a big fuss?

After saying this, the man walked forward.

However, Fu Runing said softly: "I am saying thank you to you, but one thing is another. We have to divorce, and we have to divorce in a decent way..."

The man frowned slightly.

I heard her continue: "Xiao Jingting, let's keep things the same for a while. My dad used to be good to you, so just treat it as a last farewell to him and wait for my dad..."

She paused at this point, and in the end she still couldn't utter such heartbreaking words.

Fu Runing looked at him, her tone more serious than ever before: "Let's part ways amicably from now on. I won't ask anything from you anymore."

The emotion in Xiao Jingting's eyes changed from calm to indifference, and finally turned into a hint of ridicule.

Sure enough, this marriage was a business deal from the beginning to the end.

Three years ago, after that chaotic and absurd night, she lowered herself to the lowest level in front of him and said -

"Marry me, I will be a good wife to you, and I will give birth to your children. Please help our family..."

In the three years of marriage that followed, she did play the role of a good wife and did it very well.

Now that her brother was coming home, she was too lazy to even pretend.

After a long time, Xiao Jingting's indifferent voice sounded, "As you wish, I won't give you a penny when we divorce."

"Also, since we're still husband and wife, we should continue to act diligently. I don't want to see what happened yesterday happen again."

After saying these two sentences, Xiao Jingting frowned slightly, pushed her hand away as if in disgust, and walked straight to the ward at the end of the corridor alone.

The man walked fast and soon he was far away from her. Fu Runing quickly jogged to catch up with him.

……

In the ward.

The ward was decorated very cozily. Fu Runing replaced the flowers in the vase with fresh ones, which made the room look more lively.

Fu Zhangnan seemed to be in good spirits today, and his voice sounded quite powerful when he was talking to Xiao Jingting.

My father is a chip engineer, so he can talk about anything related to his field. Fu Runing used to fall asleep while listening to their conversations, but now she wants to listen more.

I don’t know when I will stop hearing it.

Probably influenced by his father, Xiao Jingting was also a pure science and engineering boy when he was in college, but later he was adopted by the Xiao family and began to study finance.

My second uncle is a businessman. My father often can't get along with him, and he can talk more with Xiao Jingting.

Fu Runing looked at the time, put the heated food on the table, and went in to stop the two people's endless academic exchanges.

"Isn't it finished yet? How about applying to move your laboratory to the hospital?"

Fu Zhangnan smiled and said, "Since Ah Zheng is here, we chatted a little more."

When Fu Runing heard this name, her expression became strange for a moment.

Before yesterday, she thought the name 'A Zheng' was exclusive to their family, until she heard another woman calling him that in a very intimate tone.

The strange emotion disappeared in an instant, and she smiled again, telling them to go wash their hands and eat.

After lunch, Fu Zhangnan found an excuse to send Xiao Jingting away, leaving his daughter by his side. He asked quietly, "Did you have a fight last night?"

Fu Runing was cutting fruit and pretended to be surprised, "No, why are we arguing?"

"A Zheng came to my place last night and sat for half an hour before leaving."

"..."

Fu Runing suddenly had an idea and said in a sweet voice, "He misses you, he is filial, he is a good son-in-law."

Apart from anything else, Xiao Jingting's filial piety as a son-in-law is obvious to all.

Fu Zhangnan asked again, worried, "Didn't they really quarrel?"

"Oh, really not! Is this something you should be worrying about right now? Taking good care of your health is the top priority now. We can go home after the doctor approves it."

Fu Zhangnan nodded without saying anything discouraging.

But he knew the condition of his own body.

"Ningning, Lao Xu might not be able to make it."

Fu Runing was slightly stunned when she heard this, and couldn't help feeling a bit bitter.

A few years ago, Fu Zhangnan went out of town to attend a seminar. When his car passed through a county town, a mudslide occurred and the car overturned on the road. Fortunately, a local villager named Lao Xu rescued him from the car in time. After all, it was a life-saving favor, and later his family would go to express their gratitude every year.

Unexpectedly, when I came to the hospital for treatment last year, I met Lao Xu in the oncology department. He had cancer. Faced with this serious disease, Lao Xu chose conservative treatment. He also had a four-year-old granddaughter at home, whom Lao Xu had picked up and raised before.

This is what happens when you are poor. You don’t even have any relatives.

Fu Runing thought of the four-year-old girl and asked, "What about his granddaughter?"

Fu Zhangnan shook his head. "If I were still healthy, I could adopt the child, but not now."

Fu Runing knew that her father's kindness and compassion were overflowing, but she felt really sad when she heard about this.

Fu Zhangnan looked at the direction of the ward door and thought for a moment, "Ningning, you and Azheng have been married for three years and have no children. How about..."

Fu Runing's heart was filled with alarm. Her good father, this is not the way to say such nonsense!

"Dad, he and I are both under 30 years old. We don't meet the adoption requirements! Let me go home and ask my uncle and aunt what they think."

Fu Zhangnan nodded, "Okay."

……

The door of the ward.

Xiao Jingting glanced at the messages that came one after another on WeChat on his mobile phone.

"Didn't you have an appointment for a fertility checkup today?"

"I found a specialist for you. What kind of specialist would wait for you on a Saturday, and yet you still didn't show up?"

"Don't you believe me, brother? I'm a very reliable person. I won't let anyone know about this!"

"You're quite aware of this. You didn't put the blame on your wife for not being able to conceive. After three years of marriage and no child, it's really necessary to check the quality of your tadpoles."

Xiao Jingting replied concisely: "Another day"
