Legend of the Embroiderer
Chapter 2: First Visit to the Tang Dynasty
When Su Mengyao awoke from the vortex of time and space, she found herself lying on an exquisite mahogany bed, its frame delicately carved with patterns, its curtains swaying gently in the breeze. She slowly sat up and looked around. The furnishings in the room were filled with a classical atmosphere, each object exuding a sense of ancient charm. Countless questions welled up in her mind: Where was this? How did I get here?
She gently drew aside the gauze curtains, stepped out of bed, and walked to the window, pushing open the carved wooden shutters. Outside lay a spacious courtyard, its floor paved with bluestone. Several palace maids bustled about busily. Their attire was vibrant and vibrant, a stark contrast to the modern styles she was familiar with. Each one was as beautiful as if she had stepped out of an ancient scroll.
Su Mengyao felt a surge of surprise, but also a hint of fear and nervousness. She didn't know what lay ahead, but she knew she had to face it bravely. She began to observe her surroundings, trying to find some clues. She noticed that the architectural style here was very similar to that of the Tang Dynasty, and her heart couldn't help but move.
She began to communicate with the people around her. Despite the language barrier, she was able to understand some basic words. She learned that she had traveled to the Tang Dynasty. She was filled with shock, but also curiosity. She decided that now that she was there, she would make the most of this opportunity to learn about the culture and art of that era.
In the palace, Su Mengyao met a gentle and kind maid named Zhiruo. While talking to Su Mengyao, Zhiruo quickly noticed her difference. "Mengyao, your words and behavior are different from ours. Where are you from? We've never seen you before?" Zhiruo asked curiously.
Su Mengyao hesitated. She couldn't reveal her identity as a time traveler, so she made up a story: "Zhiruo, I come from a very far place. The customs and language there are very different from here. I became ill and lost my memory. I can't remember many things now."
A hint of surprise flashed in Zhiruo's eyes, but she quickly accepted the explanation. "Then you are really lucky to be here. But don't worry, I will help you." Zhiruo said with a smile.
Faced with Mengyao's concerns about her lack of language and palace etiquette, Zhiruo offered to help her learn the language and etiquette of the Tang Dynasty. She said, "Mengyao, if you want to gain a foothold in the palace, you must learn our language and behavior. Don't be afraid, I can help you." Zhiruo's voice was gentle, her eyes revealing sincerity and friendliness.
Su Mengyao seized this opportunity and began learning the Tang Dynasty language from Zhiruo, from basic greetings to complex court jargon. Zhiruo patiently corrected her pronunciation and taught her how to use various honorifics and humble terms. "In the palace, be careful with your words. Every word should reflect your respect and humility," Zhiruo explained and demonstrated.
In addition to language, Zhiruo also taught her the etiquette required of a palace maid, from how to bow to how to serve a superior. "Every action we take must reflect our upbringing and status," she explained, explaining how to demonstrate proper etiquette in walking, standing, and even eye contact.
After a while, Su Mengyao slowly adapted to life in the palace and became good friends with Zhiruo. She began to develop a keen interest in the palace's novelties, becoming curious about ancient musical instruments, dance, calligraphy, and painting. She discovered that this era had its own unique charm, its culture and art so rich and profound.
Su Mengyao no longer worried about returning to the modern world, but began to enjoy life in the palace. She began to participate in various palace activities, such as poetry gatherings, tea parties, and festival celebrations. She appreciated and understood these ancient traditions with her modern perspective, and she found that she could actually find joy and satisfaction in them.
During a gathering of palace maids, Su Mengyao improvised a poem with her uniquely modern perspective, earning the admiration of the attendees. Her verse, fresh and profound, was refreshing. This not only elevated her status among the palace maids but also filled her with greater anticipation for life in this era.
She began to try to integrate into the era in her own way, using modern design concepts to improve the palace costumes and using modern communication methods to build friendships with the palace maids. She found that although the times were different, the emotions and needs between people were the same.
Su Mengyao thought: "This era has become a part of my life. I must learn to accept this reality and cherish everything here. Regardless of whether I will return to the modern era in the future, I will move forward bravely."
This is her new discovery, her new adventure. Her heart is filled with both nostalgia for modern life and curiosity and a desire to explore this era. No matter where she goes in the future, this journey will be the most precious experience of her life.
