"What tape? Dad, is it one of those small rectangular boxes?" Su Jinli asked.

Su Zhan withdrew his gaze. "Yes, Dad has collected quite a few of these little plastic cassette tapes. You should have seen them before."

Su Jinli stood up. "Are there any cassette tapes here? I'd like to take a look."

Seeing his daughter's interest in his past, Su Zhan couldn't hide his joy. He stood up and said, "Of course, in the cabinet in the living room on the fourth floor, Dad has collected a lot of Beyond band's cassette tapes and DVDs."

The father and daughter walked happily toward the elevator. Along the way, Su Zhan excitedly told his daughter about his idol.

Upon reaching the fourth floor, one finds a large, open-plan living room, complete with a television, a TV cabinet, and an old-fashioned DVD player. Su Jinli had never understood why her father had meticulously preserved such outdated media players, having the servants polish them spotless every day.

Now I understand, those were my father's aspirations and dreams, the spiritual pillar of his youth.

Su Zhan quickly took a large box out of the cabinet and gently placed it on the coffee table. "Daughter, sit down quickly, Daddy will show you."

Su Jinli sat on the sofa, and Su Zhan opened the box. Inside, all the old-fashioned cassette tapes were neatly stacked.

The outer packaging of the cassette tape was a small, flat, rectangular box. After opening the cap, there was a layer of cover paper inside, and then the cassette tape itself.

Magnetic tapes come in white, transparent, orange-red, and green. Transparent tapes allow you to see the black reel inside at a glance.

“Your generation is so lucky. You were born into a life of abundance, and you had smartphones when you were teenagers. You even had MP3 players when you were kids… When I was a kid, all I had was this. These were rare items and very expensive back then,” Su Zhan said, holding up a cassette tape.

Su Jinli took the tape and looked at it. It was a cassette tape with two jagged holes. She was listening to it carefully when Su Zhan handed his daughter a sheet of lyrics from the tape.

It was a folded, long strip of thick paper with very small, blurry print; it contained the lyrics to every song.

Su Zhan told his daughter, "The lyrics on these tapes are small. When we buy a cassette tape, we usually copy the lyrics into a notebook so it's easier to read."

Su Jinli frowned slightly, straining to read the words, and couldn't help but complain, "The font is so small, and the printing is blurry. Is it a pirated copy?"

“Of course it was pirated. Back then, there weren’t that many genuine copies in China. Even if there were, your dad wouldn’t have the money to buy them.” Su Zhan said, then took out a beautiful notebook from the box. “Look, these are lyrics that your dad copied by hand back then.”

Su Jinli took the notebook, opened it, and saw that the handwriting was neat and tidy, with each stroke revealing Su Zhan's respect and love for the song.

"Dad, are you copying all Beyond songs?"

"Of course, this band is the soul of my entire youth. Their songs brought me so much joy and passion. By the way, when I was pursuing your mother, I sang 'I Like You' on guitar."

At this point, Su Zhan softly began to sing, "I like you... those captivating eyes... your laughter is even more enchanting... I wish we could meet again..."

Su Jinli happened to turn to the page of the lyric book "I Like You," and as she listened to her father sing it, she saw the beautiful imagery in the lyrics and imagined the sweet love between her parents when they were young.

After singing a section, Su Zhan eagerly awaited his daughter's feedback, "How was it? Did you like it?"

"That sounds great, Dad. During your national tour, will you be able to sing any of these songs, especially those by the band Beyond?"

"I will sing, and I will pay tribute to my idol at every performance."

Su Jinli smiled expectantly, "I'm waiting to see how you do."

Su Zhan was overjoyed. He excitedly stepped forward to hug his daughter and kissed Su Jinli on the forehead. The joy of his beloved daughter understanding him on a spiritual level was beyond words.

"And this song, 'Really Love You,' was written by Wong Ka Kui for his mother. The lyrics are very touching." Su Zhan recommended this good song to his daughter.

His hands flipped through the lyric book quickly; he was so familiar with the contents that they had become muscle memory. He stopped on a page with the lyrics to the song "Really Love You."

"Dad will play the music video for you, listen to it." Su Zhan was busy running around, but this busyness brought him unprecedented joy and happiness.

His beloved daughter and his favorite music blended together in a warm moment, making it the most beautiful moment of his life.

As Su Zhan was putting a disc into the DVD player, Su Jinli asked, "Dad, you love music so much, but you gave it up for so long for the sake of your family."

“In a family, someone always has to give more,” Su Zhan carefully held the VCD disc in his hand, wiped the dust off the smooth surface with a clean white cloth, and then put it into the DVD player. “If no one is willing to give more, the family will fall apart, don’t you think?”

Su Zhan turned to look at his daughter and said, "Your mother has also sacrificed a lot. Women use their youth, beauty, health and energy to continue life when they give birth to the next generation. She can have a child for me, so what's wrong with me giving up my career for him?"

I picked up the remote and operated the DVD player with great skill. Very old-fashioned music videos with low picture quality appeared on the screen.

Su Zhan told his daughter, "Now that the internet is so developed, there are many high-definition restored music videos available online, but I still like to watch them on my DVD player when I have free time. These kinds of videos have a familiar and comforting feel to them."

As the pleasant guitar intro begins, the scene shows a man dressed in fine clothes, adorned with sparkling jewelry, and carrying a guitar slung across his shoulder.

Su Jinli doesn't understand Cantonese, so she only reads the subtitles at the bottom of the screen.

A pair of hands that defy description

[Warmth is always there behind you]

Always nagging and always paying attention, I feel guilty for not appreciating it.

Looking at the lyrics, Su Jinli recalled that when she decided to enter the entertainment industry as an actress, her mother had strongly opposed and tried to stop her, but behind the scenes she had been quietly inquiring about reliable entertainment companies for her, and even made investment at a loss, all so that her daughter could pursue her dream.

As the story nears its end, fragments from some extra chapters occasionally enter Su Jinli's mind—

That year, in order to help her daughter get a role, Song Li went so far as to personally invite the crew to dinner.

After a few rounds of drinks, the director pointed at Song Li condescendingly and said, "Your daughter's acting is really terrible. If it weren't for the money you invested, we would never have used her!"

Song Li suppressed her anger and forced a smile, saying, "My daughter is new to this industry and still has a lot to learn."

Director: "Studying won't help, she doesn't have that talent!"

The screenwriter standing nearby said, "But they're lucky; they have a rich mother."

Everyone laughed, but the helplessness remained only in Song Li's heart.

How can I ever fully repay the kindness of my parents?

Love is boundless and expansive.

Please allow me to say, I truly love you.
