Chapter 372 My husband didn’t find out I’m a killer today 2

"Miss Bei!"

The apartment manager had just unlocked the door when a figure rushed inside.

He was an extremely upright and refined-looking man. The top button of his white shirt was neatly fastened, and the old-fashioned black cuffs left a tight mark on his arms.

His woody perfume was unique, with a detached and cool tone that was inexplicably captivating.

Bei Yanning's senses were enveloped by that faint fragrance. She felt him kneeling in front of her, so close to her. He reached out and touched her forehead and cheek with the back of his hand.

Realizing she only had a fever, he breathed a sigh of relief and called out to her, "Miss Bei?"

"can you hear?"

He pulled a small blanket from the sofa and covered her top, which had become thin and see-through from the dampness.

He picked her up and started to walk out.

His sleeve was gently tugged by a small force. He looked down and saw that Bei Yanning had opened her eyes, leaning against him and looking up at him.

"Don't...go to the hospital."

Her voice was pitifully soft, and she frowned as she spoke, her face flushed red, looking extremely weak.

But her inexplicable insistence, almost pleading with him, was: "I don't want to... please... I don't want to go..."

She was on the verge of tears: "I'm scared there..."

A single, glistening tear fell from the corner of her eye, dampening his shirt.

Her grip on his hand gradually weakened, and her eyes, filled with brokenness, gently closed.

Beren looked at the apartment manager who was still standing at the door: "Mrs. Pete, could you please help her dry off and change her clothes?"

The butler nodded: "Okay."

She followed Bailun to the bedroom, muttering to herself as they walked: "Young people these days really don't take care of their health. It's raining so hard, and they don't even know to close the windows. It's really..."

Bai Lun gently placed Bei Yanning on the bed. Pete, who had been chattering incessantly the whole way, suddenly shouted, "Ouch!"

She reached out but couldn't stop her in time, and said anxiously, "She's so wet, if you put her on like this, she won't be able to sleep in the bed tonight!"

Beren paused, seemingly just realizing what had happened. "Sorry, I was too nervous and didn't think of that."

"I'll figure something out. Please help her clean up and change her clothes first."

He nodded slightly to Pete, then politely walked out.

The door closed, and Pete sighed and shook her head, muttering to herself as she complained about how unreliable young people were. She opened the wardrobe and took out a set of long-sleeved pajamas from the compartment for storing home clothes.

When she turned around again, she found that the person lying on the bed had sat up at some point, with his arms crossed, looking at her with displeasure.

Pete: "You're awake again?"

Bei Yanning didn't answer her. She opened the bedside table drawer, took out a watch from inside, and threw it over.

Pete quickly caught it, held it in his hands, and slowly widened his eyes: "My God, this isn't cheap..."

"Ta-ba".

The door lock clicked softly, and Beren turned around from the wet side of the living room. He held a screwdriver in one hand, and an open toolbox was at his feet.

Pete glanced at him briefly, said, "You've changed your clothes!" and left quickly.

Bairen keenly noticed her unusual behavior. He narrowed his eyes and fixed his gaze on her slightly bulging trouser pockets.

The front door opened and closed again, leaving him alone in the small living room.

He gently pushed the window hinges, but the movable half of the window was completely jammed. It had a serious problem that he couldn't fix, and now there was no other way but to replace the window.

Outside the window, the rain was noisy, and the cold rainwater fell in through the wide-open window. On the other half of the window, lines of water flowed down the glass.

Beryl put the screwdriver back in its place, closed the toolbox, went to the bathroom, turned on the tap, and washed his hands.

He looked up at the sink and saw his reflection in the mirror.

He observed himself for a few seconds, then began to smile at himself in the mirror.

The eyebrows should be relaxed, the eyes slightly curved, and the corners of the mouth should have just the right curve.

He maintained this standard smile for half a minute, until his facial muscles precisely remembered the state of the moment.

On the washstand were some toiletries, and next to the mirror hung a penguin-shaped hand towel. Bailun held it up with one hand and placed the other on it, carefully wiping his hands clean.

Does her hand touch this towel every day, just like he does now?

Thinking of this, Bailun couldn't help but curl the corners of his mouth. The man in the mirror smiled inexplicably wickedly. When they looked at each other in the mirror, he immediately adjusted his expression.

Seeing the man in the mirror become upright and gentle, he raised an eyebrow in satisfaction and walked towards the bedroom.

The little one lay on his side on the bed, his hair covering half of his face, like a young animal.

The nightgown Pete changed her into was rather short, barely covering her thighs, with a lace trim around the chest, and the soft black fabric clung tightly to her snow-white body.

Suddenly, the image of her lying in the rain, her shape completely exposed beneath her soaked clothes, flashed into Bairen's mind.

Her eyes were tightly closed, her thick eyelashes like small fans. She had no idea how dangerous it was to ask a man to take care of her alone before she lost consciousness, so completely unprepared.

Beren quietly adjusted his breathing to calm himself down and avoided looking directly at her body.

He opened the blanket beside him and gently covered her with it.

But upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the ends of her hair were still dripping water, almost soaking her entire back.

Beren frowned, then remembered Kate's bulging pockets, and his eyes turned cold and dangerous in an instant.

The person on the bed stirred, and he sensed it almost instantly. He quickly adjusted his facial expression and saw that she had slowly opened her eyes again.

Her eyes were hazy, as if unfocused, as if she were delirious from the heat, and she only knew to gently grasp a bit of his clothes.

He leaned closer and heard her murmuring repeatedly, "Mr. Bai... Mr. Bai..."

“I’m here,” he said, raising his hand as if to pat her head.

But his hand paused in mid-air for half a second before finally resting lightly on the edge of the bed.

He leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Miss Bei, can you hear me?"

"Hmm." Bei Yanning snorted, her eyelashes fluttering as if her eyes were about to close again.

"Take your medicine first, okay?"

She hummed in response, which was a kind of reply to him.

Bai Lun sat down by the bed, helped Bei Yanning lean against him, put two pills in his palm, and fed them to Bei Yanning.

Bei Yanning obediently lowered her head to eat, like a fledgling bird pecking at its food. Her lips were very hot, and she briefly touched his palm before pulling away.

The medicine was so bitter that she frowned, but she still obediently held it in her mouth, her thoughtfulness was heartbreaking.

Bailun held the water glass to her lips, feeding her carefully so she wouldn't choke.

"Miss Bei."

After giving her the medicine, he called her name again, but remained silent for a long time.

Bei Yanning gave a puzzled "Hmm?" and squinted her eyes, tilting her head back in his arms to look at him.

Then, with some difficulty, Bairen said, "If we don't go to the hospital... I'm the only one here who can take care of you."

Bei Yanning gave a heavy "Mmm!" and nodded her head repeatedly, indicating her complete agreement.

"But... you're still wet."

"If you don't dry yourself off quickly, you'll get sicker and sicker..." said Beren.

"Does this mean..." he asked, "that I also need to help with this?"

Bei Yanning remained silent for a long time.

Just when Beren thought she had fainted again, she spoke softly: "...Raine."

Rennes.
