Just as Linda Chen stepped into the center of Dragon Country.
Inside the Pentagon's Situation Room, the atmosphere was as oppressive as the sea before a storm.
The disastrous defeat at the Camp David "Hongmen Banquet" and the news that the independence leader was rescued by a mysterious force were like a loud slap in the face of the new president and his staff.
Their carefully planned conspiracy aimed at "catching them all in one swoop" eventually turned into a farce that caused the federal government to lose face and credibility.
"Useless! A bunch of useless!" The new president angrily crumpled up a battle damage report and slammed it against the wall. "You can't even keep an eye on a few unarmed congressmen! What's the point of having a bunch of you special forces?!"
General Ghost stood aside, his face livid, and he said nothing. He was in charge of the security of this operation, but such a huge mistake had occurred, and he could not escape blame.
But he knew that now was not the time to assign blame.
"Mr. President," he said in a cold voice, interrupting the president's rant, "getting angry now will not help. We must act now to crush these separatists before they return to their states and organize effective resistance!"
California Senator Johnson also echoed.
"That's right! We must send troops immediately! Launch a general offensive against Texas and California! Use the most drastic measures to show them the consequences of betraying the Federation!"
However, General "Ghost" shook his head, with a strategist's calmness and prudence flashing in his eyes.
"That's not right." He walked over to the giant map of the US and picked up a baton. "Everyone, please take a look. Elite troops loyal to the federal government, such as the 82nd Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division, are mostly deployed at military bases on the East Coast."
“And Texas and California, far to our west and southwest.”
He used his baton to draw a long red arrow across the map, spanning the entire North American continent.
"Traveling thousands of miles to attack two vast states with fierce and ruthless people would stretch our supply lines too far."
"If there are logistical problems or we get bogged down in guerrilla warfare by local militias, our troops will be in a very passive position and even risk being counterattacked. The South Vietnam incident is a lesson for us."
Upon hearing this, the generals present fell into deep thought.
They knew that what the "ghost" general said was true. It was indeed not a wise move to go head-to-head with Texas and California, which had home-field advantages, were familiar with the terrain, and had a population of soldiers.
"So what do you mean...?" the president asked, frowning.
General "Ghost" slowly and heavily tapped his baton on a state in the northeast corner of the map - Pennsylvania.
"To catch a thief, first catch the leader; to kill a snake, strike it at its weakest point."
There was an undeniable determination in his voice.
"Everyone, our real threat is not the faraway states of Texas and California, but the place right under our noses - Pennsylvania!"
"This is the Eagle Sauce's Arsenal! It houses our country's most comprehensive heavy industry system!"
"Steel, coal, machinery manufacturing...all the weapons and equipment we need to fight the Civil War must be produced here! Whoever controls Pennsylvania will have the initiative in the war!"
"Furthermore," he continued, "Pennsylvania is closest to us, and our army can encircle it within 24 hours. Taking Pennsylvania with a thunderous force will not only completely cut off the other rebellious states' sources of weapons and equipment, but also clear our path to the West."
"Most importantly, once we control this huge industrial base, we will no longer have to worry about logistics!"
"So, morally and logically, we must take Pennsylvania first! Killing the chicken to scare the monkey and serve as a warning to others!"
General "Ghost"'s analysis was clear and to the point, convincing everyone present.
"I agree!" General Reynolds was the first to speak out. "Concentrating our superior forces to eliminate the greatest threat nearby is the correct strategic choice."
The new president nodded heavily, hope rekindled in his eyes.
"Alright! Let's do it! Immediately mobilize the 1st Infantry Division and the 10th Mountain Division, split them into two groups, and launch a lightning-fast encirclement of Pennsylvania!"
"Remember, this operation must be swift, accurate, and ruthless! Don't give them any chance to breathe or call for help!"
A war order that was not authorized by Congress and completely unconstitutional was issued from the Pentagon.
The federal government's army, like two huge pliers, quietly closed on the unsuspecting Pennsylvania.
An undeclared war against one's own compatriots has begun.
Governor's Mansion, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Governor Tom Wolf and his core staff are anxiously awaiting news from the Dragon Country.
More than a week has passed since Councillor Linda Chen embarked on that secret journey East.
For more than a week, they were like walking in the dark, not knowing where their future lay. They could only place all their hopes on the brave female dragon councillor.
"Any news about Linda?" Governor Wolf asked tiredly, rubbing his temple.
This was the twentieth time he asked the same question today.
His secretary, a young blond girl, shook her head, worry written all over her face.
"Still no, Mr. Governor. We've tried every back channel and can't get in touch with her."
Wolfe's heart sank little by little, and a sense of foreboding enveloped him.
Could it be...could it be that Linda Chen's operation failed?
Or... she simply left and never came back, abandoning them and returning to her so-called "homeland"?
The thought gave him a chill.
If they lose Dragon Country, their only potential aid, how will they face the impending thunderbolt from the federal government?
Just when he was feeling upset, the office door was suddenly kicked open.
The commander of the state National Guard, a fat general named Hank, rushed in breathlessly, his face full of horror.
"Governor! It's bad! The federal army... the federal army is coming!"
"What?!" Wolfe suddenly stood up from his chair and looked at General Hank in disbelief.
"Absolutely true!" General Hank's voice trembled with fear. "Our border post just received an urgent report! The 1st Infantry Division and the 10th Mountain Division of the American Army have crossed the border between Maryland and New York and are advancing towards Harrisburg at high speed in two directions!"
"They opened fire without any warning! Our border guards...were defeated almost instantly!"
This news was like a bolt from the blue, leaving everyone in the office stunned.
They had anticipated that Washington would take action, but they did not expect that the other party would act so quickly and so cruelly, leaving them no time to react.
"These damn bastards! They actually shot at their own people!"
roared Mike Donovan, the steelworkers' union leader.
After the initial shock, Governor Wolf quickly calmed down.
He knew now was not the time for anger and panic. As the leader of Pennsylvania, he had to make a decision immediately.
"General Hank!" he ordered in an unquestionable tone, "Immediately mobilize all National Guard troops in the state! Establish a defense line on all major transportation routes leading to Harrisburg! Delay the enemy's attack at all costs!"
"Mike! Frank!" He turned to several union leaders. "Now, I need your strength! Mobilize all your union members immediately!"
"Take up your weapons and defend our homeland! Turn our steel mills and mines into fortresses against the invaders!"
"Yes, Governor!" Several union leaders agreed without hesitation, with fighting spirit burning in their eyes.
"Secretary!" Wolfe turned to his secretary, whose face had turned pale with fear. "Immediately, in my name, make a radio address to the entire state, to the nation, and to the world! Expose the Washington usurpers' unconstitutional and fascist acts of invading a sovereign state!"
"We want all Americans to know that we did not start this war! We are fighting to defend freedom and the Constitution!"
Orders were issued from this small office, and the entire Pennsylvania, this dormant industrial machine, began to operate urgently.
