Eagle Sauce: The 055 destroyer was launched into the sea just after the founding of the country?
Chapter 637 Hidden Arrow
Blagoveshchensky air defense position outside Moscow.
The night sky was filled with the smell of gunpowder. The air defense soldiers, who had just experienced an unprecedented failed interception operation, were sorting out their equipment. There was an unusual sense of tension in the air.
Lieutenant Lebedev stood next to the S-25 air defense missile launcher with a frown on his face. The cigarette in his hand had burned to the end, and the ash fell on his oil-stained military uniform.
He was feeling very annoyed as he watched a group of soldiers checking the missile device that had just been launched.
As the commander of this air defense team, tonight's failure made him feel unprecedented frustration.
"Damn it, eighty-six missiles, all failed! Eighty-six!"
Technician Medvedev kicked the tire of the launch vehicle in anger. "I've been in this damn army for fifteen years and I've never seen anything like this!"
He is the oldest technician in the team. His face is full of traces of time, but his eyes are still sharp.
Tonight's defeat was an insult to him.
“Calm down, Medvedev,” Lieutenant Lebedev said, stubbing out his cigarette. “This isn’t our fault. It was flying too high and too fast for our systems to intercept it.”
“No, this is our fault!” Medvedev retorted, his voice thick with frustration. “We always boasted about how advanced our air defenses were, how impregnable they were. But now? This is the first time we’ve actually faced a threat, and it feels like a joke.”
The young operator, Ivanov, interrupted, “What on earth was that? I’ve never seen a missile that could fly that high and that fast. Was that really launched by the Dragon people?”
He was the youngest member of the team, only in his early twenties, and had just graduated from military school.
There was still an innocence and curiosity in his eyes that had not been completely erased by his military career.
“Who knows?” Sergeant Petrov shrugged, checking the radar equipment. “They don’t tell us anything. We’re just machines pushing buttons.”
Petrov was a typical old soldier, with eight years' service under his belt, and he took everything with a cynical air.
In his view, the army is a huge theater of absurdity, and they, the little people, are just props in it.
“Don’t talk nonsense, Petrov,” Lieutenant Lebedev warned. “Be careful what you say. Remember, the walls have ears.”
Petrov smiled noncommittally and continued to check the equipment.
Kozlov, a young recruit, was helping to organize cables near the launch pad and had not participated in the discussion.
He had only been assigned to this team last month and was still adapting, but at this moment, his attention was drawn to something in the sky.
He raised his head, squinted his eyes and stared at a point in the night sky, his expression gradually becoming confused.
"Lieutenant Lebedev," Kozlov suddenly said, a hint of uncertainty in his voice, "are there any new aircraft being tested today?"
Lebedev was looking through the launch log. He looked up at the new recruit in confusion.
"What nonsense are you talking about, Kozlov? We've been so busy preparing for war lately, how can we have time for some kind of test flight?"
"And even if there is, our air defense forces will be notified in advance."
Medvedev and Petrov exchanged glances, apparently both thinking that the new recruit might be a little nervous because of the tense atmosphere tonight.
"But, Comrade Lieutenant," Kozlov insisted, his voice still hesitant but more certain, "if there's no test flight, then what's that thing in the air?"
He pointed to the northwest sky and everyone looked in the direction his finger was pointing.
At first, they saw nothing but the dark night sky and scattered clouds.
Ivanov even scoffed softly: “Kozlov, you should go see an ophthalmologist, there’s nothing there—”
But his words stopped abruptly.
As a cloud moves past, the moonlight illuminates a strange object in the sky.
It was unlike any plane or missile they had ever seen. It had a strange triangular shape and seemed to have some special material on its surface, reflecting the faint moonlight.
What was even more shocking was that it made almost no sound as it silently streaked across the night sky towards the center of Moscow - towards the Kremlin.
"What the hell is that?" Medvedev muttered to himself, his voice full of disbelief.
Lieutenant Lebedev's face turned pale instantly, and his military instincts immediately reacted -
This is not a Russian aircraft, but an unknown and potentially extremely threatening aerial target flying towards the heart of the country.
"Quick! Everyone, get in position!" he yelled, his voice distorted by nervousness. "Prepare for emergency launch procedures! Ivanov, report to the command center immediately! Petrov, activate the backup radar system and lock on to the target!"
Ivanov ran to the communication equipment, his hands shaking slightly with nervousness.
"Lieutenant Lebedev! We just launched a missile, and it will take at least twenty minutes to reload!"
“Then use the backup launcher!” Lebedev roared. “Hurry up, don’t dawdle! That thing is getting closer and closer to the Kremlin!”
Petrov had rushed to the radar console and was rapidly pressing a series of buttons to activate the backup system.
But when the radar screen lit up, a look of fear crossed his face.
“Sir… Radar… Radar isn’t picking up anything! That thing… it’s not on our radar!”
“Impossible!” Medvedev rushed to Petrov’s side and personally checked the radar screen. “We can see it with our naked eyes, how could the radar not pick it up?!”
Kozlov still stood there, staring in amazement at the strange triangular object in the sky, his face filled with an almost religious shock.
“Oh my God…that’s not a plane…that’s not anything we know…”
Lieutenant Lebedev had already grabbed the communication equipment and contacted the Moscow Air Defense Command directly.
"Emergency! Emergency! This is Blagoveshchensky air defense position! UFO spotted approaching the center of Moscow! Target is out of radar range!"
"Repeat, target is out of radar range! Requesting urgent instructions!"
There was only harsh static on the other end of the communicator, and no response.
“Damn it!” Lebedev slammed the communication device hard. “Why is there no response?!”
Ivanov's voice trembled with fear: "Comrade Lieutenant... I think... I think it might be interference... That aircraft may be interfering with our communication system..."
At this moment, another soldier suddenly shouted: "Look! It...it's speeding up!"
Everyone's eyes turned to the sky again.
The triangular aircraft suddenly changed its flight attitude, its fuselage tilted slightly, and its speed increased abruptly, leaving an almost invisible track in the night sky, rushing towards the heart of Moscow - the Kremlin at an incredible speed.
Lieutenant Lebedev stood there in a daze, the communicator in his hand slipping and falling to the ground.
His lips moved, but no sound came out.
In his fifteen years of military service, he had never witnessed such a horrific scene...
