Chapter 615 Awakening, hunting time
Five hours later.
Captain Wang raised his index finger slightly, signaling the Falcon Squad to stay put.
Through his night vision goggles, he saw three North Vietnamese sentries approaching their position with guns raised, about twenty meters away.
Li Zheng gritted his teeth, knowing that he had made a rookie mistake—his right foot kicked an empty can.
"Who? Stop! Report your unit and password!" The leading North Vietnamese sentry shouted sternly in Vietnamese, and the sound of rifles being loaded was particularly clear in the night.
"Captain, I'm sorry..." Li Zheng whispered.
"Quiet." Captain Wang's voice was as cold as steel. He quickly confirmed the team members' positions on the "Battle Skull" system and gave Zhang Wei a tactical gesture.
At three o'clock, two targets, waiting for the signal. The tacit understanding among special forces requires no further explanation. Zhang Wei immediately understood and prepared himself.
Captain Wang suddenly changed his demeanor, smiled, raised his hands, and replied in fluent Vietnamese: "Don't shoot, brother! It's me, Nguyen Van Qin, from the logistics department."
He deliberately staggered a few steps to make himself look like a drunk soldier.
"Just came back from the village... you know, there's good wine and pretty girls there..."
The three sentries lowered their guard slightly, but their guns remained pointed at Captain Wang. The leading sentry frowned and said, "Nguyen Van Qin? I've never heard of that name. You should know that we're on a war footing right now. Anyone who leaves without permission will be court-martialed."
Captain Wang continued to move forward, his steps slightly staggering. At the same time, he made a gesture behind his back with his right hand - ready for action.
“Uh… don’t be so serious, brother,” Captain Wang continued to play the role of a drunkard and walked to a place only five meters away from the sentry. “Can I buy you a drink? I brought back some good wine…”
"Stop! I'll shoot if you take another step!" the sentry shouted nervously, raising his gun and aiming.
Captain Wang suddenly switched channels and whispered into his tactical headset: "Operation Falcon, three targets, now!"
Everything that followed was as smooth and swift as a precisely choreographed dance. Captain Wang rolled violently to the left, simultaneously pulling out his silenced pistol from his leg. As he rolled, he quickly aimed at the lead sentry's head.
"Puff!" The sound of a silenced pistol was as faint as someone opening a bottle of soda in the distance. A black hole appeared on the forehead of the leading sentry, and he fell backwards before he could even pull the trigger.
At the same moment, Zhang Wei emerged from the shadows on the right, moving silently like a ghost. Holding a tactical dagger, he slit the throat of the sentry on the right with one smooth movement, while simultaneously covering his mouth with his left hand to prevent any sound from leaking out.
The blood appeared a strange black color in the night vision goggles, as if black ink was blooming in the air.
The third sentry just realized what was happening and turned around to escape, but Li Zheng reacted faster than him.
The young scout made up for his previous mistake and made a clean and decisive tactical thrust. The dagger pierced the opponent's neck from the back, directly severing the opponent's spinal nerves.
The sentry didn't even have time to make a sound before his body fell down like a puppet with its strings cut.
"Three targets, all eliminated," Captain Wang calmly confirmed on the communication channel. "Falcon Two, check the surroundings. Falcon Three, deal with the bodies."
Li Zheng and two other team members quickly dragged the three bodies into the nearby bushes, carefully wiping away the blood and drag marks. The entire process took no more than forty seconds, a professional and efficient process.
"Clearance complete," Li Zheng whispered into the communication channel, "There are no other enemies around."
Captain Wang nodded, adjusted his night vision, and rechecked the camp layout displayed on the War Skull system. The North Vietnamese camp buildings and sentry posts were clearly visible on the screen, with a red dot marking the location of the target headquarters.
"Falcon Team, follow me," Captain Wang gave the next order. "Maintain radio silence and advance along the planned route. Remember, our target is the North Vietnamese front-line headquarters. Do not be distracted and do not engage in fire with non-essential targets."
The Falcon Squad began advancing in a diamond formation, with Captain Wang leading the charge and the other members spread out around the perimeter, keeping watch. They moved like ghosts along the edge of the North Vietnamese camp, using shadows and buildings for cover, each step calculated with precision.
Li Zheng followed behind Captain Wang, his young face looking even more nervous under the green light of the night vision equipment.
The action just now was his first real kill in actual combat. Although he was well-trained, he was still feeling emotional.
However, special operations did not allow for any hesitation, and he forced himself to focus on the mission.
Fifty meters away, two North Vietnamese soldiers were smoking and chatting, guarding a small ammunition depot.
Captain Wang made a gesture, and the entire team immediately stopped moving and blended into the darkness.
Their specially made combat uniforms can partially absorb infrared signals, making them blurry to enemy thermal imaging equipment.
Captain Wang observed for a few seconds and instructed the team to take a detour through gestures.
There was no need to engage these soldiers - Operation Falcon was about precision strikes, not indiscriminate killing.
The team continued forward, crossing an open area when a sudden bark was heard from the left. A military dog seemed to have sensed something was amiss. Several team members immediately aimed their weapons at the source of the sound, awaiting Captain Wang's orders.
Captain Wang pulled a small device from his pocket and flicked a switch. It was an ultrasonic transmitter, emitting a frequency inaudible to humans but extremely unpleasant to dogs. The military dog's barking abruptly stopped, and it retreated with a low whimper.
"Keep going," Captain Wang whispered into the communication channel. "The target building is two hundred meters away."
After crossing the edge of the camp, the Falcon Team finally arrived near the North Vietnamese front-line command headquarters.
It is a two-story building surrounded by watchtowers and barbed wire.
The "War Skull" system indicated that there were approximately fifteen people inside the building, including several Russian military advisors. Six guards were stationed outside the headquarters, patrolling a fixed route.
Captain Wang made a few hand gestures, and the team members immediately understood the plan of action: simultaneously eliminate the outer guards, then infiltrate the headquarters from two directions. The operation must be completed within three minutes, after which the rest of the North Vietnamese camp would notice something was wrong.
"Operation Falcon, Phase Two," Captain Wang ordered softly, his voice as calm as if he were discussing the weather rather than a life-or-death special operation. "Ready, three, two, one, execute."
The Falcon Squad split into three groups, each acting in unison, as if they had practiced countless times. The first group took care of the two guards to the southeast, the second group dealt with the two guards to the west, and Captain Wang personally led the third group to deal with the two guards to the north.
All the actions were completed almost simultaneously - six guards fell silently, with fatal wounds in the neck or head. No alarm sounded, and the entire North Vietnamese military camp was still immersed in the night and tranquility, unaware that a group of deadly "falcons" had sneaked into their heartland.
Captain Wang whispered into his tactical headset, "The perimeter is cleared. Prepare to storm the headquarters. Operation codenamed 'Sword.' Target: North Vietnamese commander and Mao Zedong advisor. Action!"
