Eagle Sauce: The 055 destroyer was launched into the sea just after the founding of the country?
Chapter 613 Undeclared War
There was a noisy laughter and cheers in the North Vietnamese military camp.
In the suffocatingly hot and humid night air, the smell of tobacco and cheap alcohol wafted through the air. More than twenty recruits sat together, excitedly discussing the upcoming war.
A tall and thin new recruit, Nguyen Van Dat, was gesturing vigorously on a crude map, his face filled with the fanatical confidence unique to pre-war times.
"Look here," he traced his finger along the line on the map, "as long as we get through this line of defense, western Guangdong will be like an unprotected girl, at our disposal!"
A burst of obscene laughter broke out around him, and he continued triumphantly.
"My cousin came back from training in the Bear Country and said they gave us the most advanced T-54 tanks, and those Dragon Country guys' defenses couldn't stop them at all!"
"I've already made a plan," another new recruit, Ruan Guangbao, patted his chest, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Once we capture Nanning, I'm going to grab a big villa and use it as my headquarters. I heard the women of the Dragon Tribe there are incredibly beautiful!"
The veteran Fan Desheng standing by listened silently with a gloomy expression.
He was in his fifties and had served as a company commander in the War of Resistance Against French Aggression. He was an old cadre promoted by Ho Chi Minh himself.
"Be careful what you say," he finally couldn't help but interrupt, his voice low and hoarse, "Don't underestimate the Dragon Army. They are not as simple as you think."
Ruan Wenda curled his lips and looked at Lao Fan with disdain.
"Old Fan, are you getting old and your courage is getting smaller? The Dragon Nation Army? Those farmers who only know how to farm? Their weapons are just junk made out of scrap metal!"
He laughed wildly.
"What's more, we now have the support of the Russians and the Americans. With the weapons and advisors of these two superpowers backing us, how could we possibly lose?"
Fan Desheng shook his head, a trace of worry flashing in his eyes.
"Four years ago, I witnessed firsthand the combat style and discipline of the Dragon Army when they helped us drive out the French. Let me tell you, their tactics, organization, and willpower are beyond your imagination."
The surrounding recruits burst into laughter.
"Old Fan is scared!"
"I think he's pro-dragon!"
"Is Ho Chi Ming's death frightening you?"
Various mocking voices came one after another.
A lieutenant with a brand new Soviet-made pistol hanging on his waist walked over and looked at Fan Desheng with contempt.
"Look, old man, times have changed."
"We now have the most advanced air defense systems, tanks, and artillery from the Bear Country, as well as intelligence support from the Eagle Sauce. The Dragon Country's outdated equipment is no match for us!"
Another veteran beside Fan Desheng, Ruan Wenzhong, also spoke.
"You are too arrogant. Do you know what progress the Dragon Nation has made in military affairs recently? They have successfully developed new weapons and even sent people into space!"
"So what?" the lieutenant waved his hand dismissively. "Their weapons are just made in the lab to impress the leadership. They're completely useless in actual combat."
He turned to the other recruits.
"What's more, we are not fighting alone! The Bear Nation promised that once the war begins, they will tie down the Dragon Nation's main force from the north, and we only need to deal with the troops in the south."
Fan Desheng stood up with a serious expression: "Do you think the Russians and the Americans are really helping us? They are just using us as cannon fodder to test the strength of the Dragon Nation!"
"Cannon fodder?" Nguyen Van Dat glared at the old soldier. "Old man, you are insulting our great Commander Nguyen Van Thieu and our allies! Maybe you should go back to farming and leave the battlefield to the real warriors!"
Fan Desheng looked at this group of arrogant young people and sighed deeply. He silently prayed in his heart that Hu Zhiming was still alive.
If President Hu were still alive, this absurd war would never have happened.
But now, Nguyen Van Thieu has taken control of the power, the Qiulong faction has the upper hand, and everything seems to be irreversible.
"Listen," Fan Desheng made one last attempt. "I have personally trained the Dragon Nation's troops and have witnessed their strength. They are far more powerful and more disciplined than you imagine..."
"Shut up, old man!" Nguyen Quang Bao interrupted him. "Have you been on friendly terms with the Dragon people for so long that you've forgotten you're North Vietnamese?"
"That's right," the lieutenant sneered, "maybe he's worried that his Dragon Country friends will be beaten up by us?"
A burly North Vietnamese recruit deliberately bumped into Fan Desheng and said, reeking of alcohol.
"Old man, our tanks will be crossing the border tomorrow morning. If you are afraid, you can go back to Hanoi now!"
Fan Desheng did not fight back, but just looked around sadly.
Similar scenes were everywhere in the camp: the new recruits were counting their weapons and excitedly talking about how to occupy Guangdong and Guangxi and how to become heroes of North Vietnam.
Some people even divided the occupied areas on the map, fantasizing about the glory and wealth after the war.
In the command tent in the distance, the Russian military adviser was discussing the attack plan with senior North Vietnamese officers.
A CIA agent who is very American-American mingled among them as a "diplomat" and would occasionally interject.
This strange alliance - the Russians, the Americans and North Vietnam - is preparing to launch a joint raid on the Dragon Kingdom.
Ruan Wenzhong leaned close to Fan Desheng's ear and whispered.
"Old Fan, I'm worried this time something serious is going to happen. I saw the documents in the logistics department, and the weapons and equipment the Russians gave us are almost all outdated models, and they're poorly maintained. They're not really helping us at all."
Fan Desheng nodded: "They want to see Longguo's reaction and test Longguo's military strength, and we are just their test subjects."
At this moment, a signalman hurried over and saluted the lieutenant: "Report to the commander, the headquarters ordered the entire army to prepare for the attack at 3 o'clock the day after tomorrow morning!"
The lieutenant excitedly slammed the table and announced loudly.
"Comrades, the time has come! We are about to win new territory for North Vietnam and restore the glory of our ancestors!"
The whole camp was in an uproar, the new recruits cheered, and some even began to gesture on the ground to indicate the location of the headquarters after occupying Guangdong and Guangxi.
Fan Desheng and several other veterans stepped aside with serious expressions.
"Do they really know what they are about to face?"
An old soldier asked in a low voice.
Fan Desheng shook his head and looked across the border, as if he could see the Dragon Kingdom army in the distance.
"They have no idea. Dragon Country's development over the years has far exceeded the imagination of the Russians and the Americans, not to mention these little bastards."
He took out a worn pocket watch, which was a gift given to him by the instructor from Longguo.
"I've witnessed the military training and discipline of the Dragon Nation firsthand, and these arrogant kids think they can conquer a rising power with a few second-hand tanks and some outdated weapons."
As the night deepened, the cheers and laughter in the camp became louder and louder. The recruits seemed to have seen the dawn of victory, but they had no idea what kind of disaster they were about to face.
