Chapter 574 Dragon Country’s Determination
A week later.
Inside the Dragon Kingdom Central Conference Hall, the air seemed to freeze.
Under the towering dome, the huge crystal chandelier cast a cold light, illuminating the faces of more than a hundred serious-looking leaders sitting around the long conference table.
The dark red wooden wall panels contrast with the map of Dragon Kingdom hanging on the wall. Dallion Port is prominently marked on the map with a red pushpin, like a drop of blood about to fall.
Foreign Minister Chen Jingqi slammed the Russian note heavily onto the conference table. The crisp sound of the paper echoed in the silent conference room.
“That’s absolutely ridiculous!”
He was furious, and the veins on his face were clearly visible.
"How dare the Bear Country demand the establishment of a joint fleet in Dalyan? And the establishment of a long-wave radio station within our territory?"
"And they even dared to ask for our J-20 technology?"
"How is this different from the invasion by Tsarist Russia back then?"
The conference room instantly became lively.
“Imperialist behavior!”
“Naked hegemony!”
“A disguised territorial claim!”
Angry voices rose one after another, and many leaders stood up suddenly, slamming their hands on the table with excited expressions.
The chief sitting in the first seat had a gloomy expression, tapped the table with his knuckles, and had a fierce look in his eyes.
He didn't say anything, but let the angry voices continue for a moment, then slowly raised his hand. The entire conference room immediately returned to silence.
"Comrades, please calm down."
The chief's voice was not loud, but full of majesty.
"The demands of the Bear Country are indeed unexpected, but we must analyze them rationally. Why did they suddenly make these demands?"
“What makes them so nervous?”
Mr. Lu, who was sitting on his right, pushed his glasses and spoke in a calm and deep voice.
"According to our intelligence, the Russians seem to have received information about our J-20 fighter jets, possibly leaked by the US. They are scared."
"Afraid?" Vice Chairman of the Military Commission Lin Hu sneered. "They have thousands of mushroom bombs, and they're afraid of a few of our fighter planes? Ridiculous!"
"This is clearly an attempt to seize control of our country and repeat the aggressive expansionism of the Tsarist Russia era!"
"Because they have thousands of mushroom bombs, they are more afraid of losing their advantage."
Defense Minister Xu Ruda said in a deep voice.
“The fear of decline among the strong is often more profound than the fear of power among the weak.”
"The emergence of the J-20 has broken the technological monopoly they took for granted."
Mr. Lu pulled out an intelligence briefing from a folder.
"The J-20 issue has indeed caused a huge shock within Russia. Their technical experts cannot understand how we have achieved such a technological leap."
"What's even more disturbing to them is, if we can achieve such a breakthrough in aviation, what about other fields?"
A military industry expert raised his hand to speak.
"Based on our analysis, the Russian Federation may not yet be sure of the true performance and quantity of the J-20."
"This time, they're taking this opportunity to test the waters, both to confirm intelligence and to gain control over our country's technological development."
The chief narrowed his eyes and scanned every face in the meeting room.
"Their anxiety is a testament to our success."
He stood up, walked to the map on the wall, and ran his finger across the Dragon-Bear border.
"The Russian bear owns large tracts of land in northeast and northwest my country that originally belonged to China, and they are worried that a powerful China will dispute these territories."
“And this is the source of their unease.”
There was silence in the conference room as everyone digested the profound meaning of these words.
The chief turned around and faced everyone, his voice low and powerful.
"The demands of the Bear Country are essentially a form of control."
“Once we give in, we will be on the track they have designed.”
“So how do we respond?”
Mr. Lu asked, his eyes firm.
"No!" Defense Minister Xu Ruda said without hesitation, "We must never allow foreign troops to be stationed on our territory. This is a matter of principle!"
"Comrade Chen Jingqi," the chief turned to the Foreign Minister, "prepare a solemn diplomatic note. The wording must be stern, but calm."
"Tell the Bear Country that we understand the importance of unity within the Red Front, but national sovereignty must not be violated."
"We can enhance economic and cultural exchanges, but none of the three conditions, military bases, radio stations, and core technologies, are acceptable!"
Chen Jingqi nodded and took note, the anger on his face turning into firm determination.
"Comrade Lin Hu," the chief continued, "strengthen military deployments on the northeastern and northwest borders, but be discreet and avoid deliberately provoking the enemy."
"Comrade Xu Ruda," he turned his gaze to the Minister of Defense, "the J-20 project must continue to accelerate, striving to achieve combat capability as soon as possible. Furthermore, other important military projects must also be accelerated."
After hearing the chief's instructions, everyone present fell silent, nodding and taking note of the key points.
After the discussion in the conference room fell into a brief silence, President Lu slowly stood up, pushed his glasses, and looked calm and thoughtful.
His eyes swept over everyone around the conference table, finally landing on the chief.
"What the chief said is right, but we cannot just go head-to-head with the Russian bear,"
His voice was calm but carried a weight that could not be ignored.
"After all, if we really fall out with Russia, we will have to face the hostility of two superpowers at the same time, which will be very stressful."
The generals and ministers present at the meeting nodded in agreement.
President Lu continued, "Secondly, if we fall out with the Russians, it will be a huge blow to the Red Front."
"We need to maintain unity with the Red Front while upholding our principles."
He rested his hands lightly on the conference table, leaned forward slightly, and his tone became more determined.
"If we can find a way to deter Russia without becoming hostile to it, that would be the best."
The meeting room was filled with a thoughtful atmosphere, and slogans from the playground could be faintly heard outside the window.
The chief exhaled a long puff of smoke, which swirled upwards in the light.
He suddenly turned to Fang Yu who was sitting on the side, with a meaningful smile on his face.
"Xiao Fang," the chief said in a playful yet dignified tone, "you were the one who created the J-20. Now that it's caused trouble, as the instigator, do you have any good ideas for solving it?"
All eyes in the conference room instantly focused on Fang Yu.
He sat near the door, listening quietly to the discussion, his fingers occasionally scribbling something quickly in his notebook.
Hearing the chief's question, he smiled slightly, as if he had been prepared for it.
"Big Chief, I do have a solution,"
Fang Yu responded firmly, slowly standing up and placing his hands on the table.
The atmosphere in the conference room suddenly became tense, and everyone waited with bated breath for the young scientist's plan.
Fang Yu looked around and cleared his throat, his voice slow but resounding.
"Do you know of a super weapon that's even more powerful than a mushroom bomb?"
"What about something called a super mushroom bomb?"
