Eagle Sauce: The 055 destroyer was launched into the sea just after the founding of the country?
Chapter 571 Provocation
After they all left, Howell returned to his office in the White House.
Soon, the night passed.
In the Oval Office, the early morning light shone through the half-drawn curtains, giving the classical oak furniture a soft golden edge.
General Howell slumped in a large leather chair, his eyes bloodshot and his face haggard.
The coffee cup on the table was already empty, and various confidential documents and bright red "Top Secret" stamps were scattered around it.
The most eye-catching thing is an enlarged photo - the mysterious J-20 fighter jet hovering in the air, like a ghost from the future.
His fingers tapped the table unconsciously, and his heartbeat was as loud as a drum.
I've been thinking about this problem all night.
If Longguo really mastered this technology, if they could mass-produce it...
Then, the hegemony of Western civilization will no longer exist.
After a long silence.
Howell took a deep breath.
Finally, I made up my mind and reached out to pick up the special red phone on the corner of the table.
It was a secure route directly to the Kremlin, previously used only to prevent miscalculation and catastrophic conflict between the two superpowers.
Now, he's using it to explore the possibility of a whole new alliance.
After the call was connected, there was a long silence, followed by a rustling sound and a few conversations in Russian.
Finally, a deep voice with a heavy accent sounded:
"Hello, President Howell. This call is quite unexpected."
On the other end of the phone came the voice of Joseph, the Russian leader.
He sounded surprisingly alert, even though it was supposed to be midnight in Moscow.
"Comrade Joseph, thank you for taking the call."
Howell tried to sound calm and resolute, but fatigue and tension inevitably seeped through.
"I have a matter of utmost importance to discuss with you. It concerns our mutual...interests."
There was a chuckle on the other end of the phone.
"The Eagle Sauce and the Bear have common interests? This is new."
"Tell me, what's so urgent?"
Howell closed his eyes and formed his words.
"Three days ago, one of our F-15 fighter formations encountered a type of Dragon fighter jet we had never seen before over the East China Sea."
"It...it has technology we've never seen before."
“Complete stealth, supersonic cruise, and maneuverability beyond physical limits…”
His voice trembled slightly.
"It shot down two of our most advanced fighter jets with ease, as if it were teasing a child."
There was silence on the other end of the line for a moment, and then Joseph's voice became serious.
"Are you sure this isn't a miscalculation by your intelligence department? Or some kind of psychological tactic?"
“I have video evidence.”
Howell's fingers tightened around the microphone.
"This fighter jet, codenamed 'J-20', is at least 20 years ahead of us, if not more."
“Even our best engineers can’t explain how it does that.”
"Interesting," Joseph said thoughtfully. "But what does this have to do with me?"
"The Dragon Nation is our ally and a member of the Red Alliance. They possess advanced weapons, and we should be happy for them."
A hint of annoyance flashed in Howell's eyes. He should have expected this reaction.
He stood up, paced around the office holding the phone, and lowered his voice.
"Joseph, let's put aside our ideological differences for a moment!"
"You and I both know that if Dragon Country masters such advanced technology, they will surpass the Eagle Sauce today and the Bear tomorrow."
Joseph sneered.
"Are you suggesting we team up against my allies?"
"Just because your plane was shot down? What a typical American-American mentality."
Howell stopped and looked out the window at the rising sun.
He knew he had to play a stronger card.
"Joseph, whether we are the Russians or the Americans, we are all heirs of Western civilization."
“We have different political systems, but our cultural roots are the same, our ethnicity is the same.”
He paused for a moment, and his voice became unusually clear.
“But the Dragon Nation is different. Not only are they an Eastern civilization, but they are also a completely different race from ours.”
He gripped the phone tighter and lowered his voice.
"If we continue to act independently and allow the Dragon Kingdom to surpass the West, can you accept being dominated by those yellow-skinned monkeys?"
“Can you accept that God’s chosen people are dominated by pagans?”
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone.
Howell could hear his own heartbeat and Joseph's heavy breathing.
It was a huge gamble, and he knew he was treading on the edge of danger, but the situation was so desperate that he needed to try everything possible.
Finally, Joseph spoke, his voice surprisingly calm.
"You know, Howell, I've believed for years that Eagle Sauce was our main enemy."
“But what you said… does make sense.”
Howell clenched his fists, trying not to appear too eager.
"So...will you consider my proposal?"
"Put aside our Cold War for now and work together to deal with this...greater threat?"
"Don't rush it, Eagle Sauce."
Joseph's tone was wary.
"We need more intelligence. The technological breakthrough you described...if true, it's certainly worthy of attention."
"But I'm not going to betray an ally easily just because of some racial remarks."
Hearing this, Howell knew that his words had shaken Joseph.
He knew that he must not waste this opportunity.
So, he struck while the iron was hot.
"Let's take a step back, Comrade Joseph, and even if we don't consider the differences between races and civilizations."
Howell's voice deepened over the line, taking on a calculated intimacy.
"Don't forget, most of the Russians' territory was taken from the Dragon Kingdom when they took advantage of its weakness."
The silence on the other end of the line lasted for a full ten seconds.
Howell could hear Joseph's heavy breathing and knew his words had hit home.
He gripped the microphone tightly, beads of sweat oozing from his forehead, and waited patiently for the reaction of the Russian leader.
"Howell,"
Joseph's voice suddenly sounded, low and cold.
“Are you threatening me with territorial issues?”
He paused and let out a short, cold laugh.
"Don't think I don't know your tricks."
"You capitalist countries are always good at sowing discord."
But he didn't hang up immediately, which was a good sign.
Howell pondered to himself, tapping his fingers lightly on the table as he organized his next words.
“Comrade Joseph, this is not a threat, this is a reality.”
Howell's voice grew calmer, like an elder stating the inevitable.
"We can continue to be hostile to each other, but history tells us that when a greater threat emerges, wise leaders adapt."
“You and I are both pragmatists, aren’t we?”
On the other end of the phone, Joseph's fingers gripping the receiver tightened unconsciously.
His eyes fell on a map of the eastern border of the Russian Bear on his desk. The long border between the Dragon and the Bear was like a winding poisonous snake.
“The territorial issue you mentioned…”
Joseph drawled, caution in his voice.
"Those territories have always belonged to Russia. The treaties from the Tsarist era, the Treaty of Nerchinsk, the Treaty of Aihui, the Treaty of the Imperial Capital... are all legal international agreements."
"Of course, of course, I won't deny that."
Howell hurriedly agreed, sensing a glimmer of opportunity.
"But the Dragon Nation now has technology that surpasses ours. What will they think of these 'unequal treaties'?"
"You and I both know what Dragon Nation's official propaganda calls these treaties."
"Isn't that right, my dear Comrade Joseph?"
